New Bath installation - $60,000 job - Start date was delayed from signing primarily due to ***** ******* * **** installers availability.5 months after the agreement was signed and 50% payment was made, but only one month before the job was to start, ***** informed me that plumbing and electrical labor increased $2852.27 with no clear explanation for why this was a legitimate increase. I previously requested that the shower valve change from a Delta Valve to a **** digital valve. The plumber added $2426.14 for additional labor only, the cost of the valve was separate. The electrician added $426.14 but Im still not sure why.My estimate was that it required very slightly LESS labor for the plumber. One fewer short water line to run and one fewer valve to install since the delta system required two valves. I asked for a detailed breakdown of the charges and extra number of hours, but ***** refused to give me one.A legitimate change order states only what is changed (work eliminated and work added) not a listing of the complete job. Their change order lists everything that the plumber and electrician intended to do. Note the electricians change order is 11 lines single spaced. I still do not know what, if anything changed.I know what a change order is. Before I retired, I worked on 15-multimillion-dollar construction jobs for my company. There were always a lot of change orders to these large jobs. None of them restated the entire scope of work for the project. A legitimate change order gives an estimate of the additional hours times the hourly rate. How the plumber can come up with a $2426.14 extra labor only charge for installing a different valve is beyond me.***** said I had 4 options. 1)Sign the change order and pay the extra $2852 before the work started 2)Go back and use the original Delta valve 3) Hire my own plumber 4) Cancel the job I canceled the job and had *** do it without problems.
