American Fleet rebuilt a truck engine for me in the Fall of 2022. During the process they used a freight company (SAIA) to deliver and pick up from my address. In our agreement, and contract, it was specified that freight would cost $650 to my address. The transaction involved four trips totaling $2,600 which we paid in full. The date of the trips were as follows; 9/20/22 10/27/22 11/8/22 12/20/22 Not until late January did this company come back and take $700 additional dollars from my account indicating that the freight company THEY used and quoted, billed them a surcharge because of the location of my address. American Fleet admits that it is a scam by the freight company and that it happens all the time with their business. This is an indication that they were, at the very least, aware that their freight quote was not accurate. In any case, I did business with American Fleet, not SAIA and any problems American Fleet has with SAIA should not be at my expense.

On 8/2/2022 Gulf Coast Oysters ( **** ****** ) order an engine from American Fleet. We quoted $1300.00 for round trip shipping as clearly stated on the invoice and email with ****. We quoted shipping to a business district for Gulf Coast Oysters for $1,300.00, once the product was delivered to ****, We American Fleet received an bill from SAIA LTL for a residential fee. We proceeded to bill and invoice **** for the residential fee service that SAIA LTL passed on to us American Fleet Inc. because at the time of quoting **** never made us aware that his business is in a residential area. If Mr. **** would have been upfront with us we would have told him there was going to be a residential fee that would apply.

On 10/31/2022 Gulf Coast Oysters ( **** ****** ) order an engine from American Fleet. We quoted $1.000.00 for round trip shipping as clearly stated on the invoice and email with ****. We quoted shipping to a business district for Gulf Coast Oysters for $1000.00. The product was delivered to **** and SAIA ltl billed up for another residential fee.

On 1/3/2023 ****/ Gulf coast received an email from us noting the charges, We did not hear back from **** in regard to this until 2-3-2023 which, We told him we would reach out to SAIA about the residential fee to see if they would remove it. We had several phone calls and email with SAIA regarding the fees. SAIA LTL told us at that time to look on google maps and if the address if located within a residential area the fee would apply, Gulf Coast Oysters by google maps is in a residential area.

We have informed Mr. **** ( Gulf Coast Oysters) that the fee's would not be be refunded to him due to where is address is located. If Mr. **** would have been upfront with us on his location we would have been able to make him aware of the additional fees that would have applied to the original shipping quotes.

    Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because:

*****, the owner of American Fleet, Inc., admit in his response that he wrote a contract for one amount and then, months later, deducted money from our account without my knowing or approval.

***** said, and I quote, "If Mr. **** would have been upfront with us on his location we would have been able to make him aware of the additional fees that would have applied to the original shipping quotes."

*****, requested the delivery address and he was given the delivery address. He was given the the delivery address which is a commercial address, and has been in business longer than he and I have been alive. The address is surrounded by other businesses. Never in my life have I heard such a ludicrous idea that a company bills someone for being in a "residential area".  Pay close attention to the verbiage, "residential area" not a "residential address."  He cannot say the address is residential because clearly it is not. The address is a manufacturing facility/marina.  In any case this is a moot point, the surcharge that was billed to American Fleet was billed by the trucking company which I neither organized, sought, nor contracted with. American Fleet hired the trucking company and that charge is between the trucking company and them. Shame on American Fleet for deducting my account without my permission and unscrupulously pass on his liability.

    Sincerely,

    **** ******
