I.ve been with American National Insurance Company for over 4 years for homeowners insurance. Over the 4 years I only filed two claims related to wind damage to my patio furniture and a second claim due to high winds for my fence. My deductible was $1000 so after deducting my deductible I was paid $539 on the first claim and $1700 on the second claim. The second ***** was in February 2024. My policy renewed in April 2024. I had an inspection done on my house and found out through the inspection I need some minor roof repairs (room is 7 years old) the repairs would cost $1690 based on an estimate. When I submitted a claim I was told my deductible went up from $1,000 to $10,528. I was shocked because I wasnt aware of the drastic changes to my deductible. When the agent finally called me back I was told it was a mandatory decision made by AN to increase the deductible by 2% of the dwelling and that on my renewal this increase was mention on page 31 and it was not required that I sign for such a drastic change. This shouldve been called out on the first page of the renewal and a courtesy call that such a change was happening so I could determine if I wanted to renew. I feel this is a violation of California Insurance code section 678.
