8/22/2024 - was "surprised" with a requirement to make a "deposit" for upcoming surgery then another $1371 on the day of knee surgery of over $5,434. All insurance has processed - they delayed filing so deductibles and co-pays were met with other expenses from the surgery. They have over $4814.14 per our **** and our insurance company that should be refunded. Spoke to their outsourced billing who said "it's a mess and no one has worked on this claim" but could not put me in touch with the people who do the "work". Weeks later, I just spoke with ** again and after 30 minutes of hold found someone who said she asked their "billing" - a different group - and they said since he has a follow up check in Feb, they cannot refund any of the overpayment (normally they have you pay after any visit but they are using this as an excuse to keep the money for now). I have loads of documentation and names/recorded calls on their end. When I finally was transferred to someone in billing, it went to a voice mail and I had to leave a message. I've left multiple messages over the past month and none have been returned or acknowledged. There are many other peole dealing with this from my research. It goes beyond bad business practices for a huge/well known medical supplier to what appears to be fraud. FYI I had a similar issue years ago and ended up on *** nightly news as they were investigating similar abuses (and also front page of a national paper and in the ********************* I learned that patients have to doggedly fight to get any required "deposits" back.Customer Answer

11/21/24 I spoke with ***** in billing at ************ who said she would look into it (after first saying they could not refund the $4000 overpayment if he still had an upcoming recheck in Feb - which will be a $25 copay max.I told her to cancel that appt if it prevented refunding. Then, she said there may still be some outstanding bills from the facilities. I told her that both Sports Medicine Billing/Ins and the insurance company have told me everything has been filed and paid. She said she would get back to me.
12/3/24 I called after receiving no updates. Was not allowed to speak to her as she was "on the other line and they can't put me on hold and tie up the line I was on". ******* said she would give ***** the message and she'd call me "right back".Initial Complaint

My appointment with Mississippi Sports Medicine of *******, ** was on January 8th of 2024. I received a bill a few months after for $340. When I called, they explained that they had recorded my birthday down as my dads birthday for insurance. This meant that insurance denied the claim. They explained that they would fix this asap. I have since then received many bills in the mail and it has not been resolved. I have spoken with them, along with my father, countless times and every time they have assured me the issue would be fixed. I even got something in the mail saying I would be sent to collections. They then had to retract that and get in contact with the collections company. It does not matter how many times I try and get this fixed, I still get bills in the mail saying Im going to be sent to collections. They have said sorry so many times and have said it is all their fault. They have also said its been fixed many many times too.Initial Complaint

04/15/2023 I went to Mississippi Sports Med for an exam on my shoulder pain, I saw Dr.*********************.I went through physical therapy and injections like he instructed me to do, but that did not help. Dr. **************** said, I needed to have rotator cup surgery and 3 spurs removed it's a simple surgery HR noted, you'll be back to normal and you're still young enough to heal. had the surgery done on 11/15/2023.I have done physical therapy like he and the physical therapist said, but still today my right shoulder feels worse than in the first. I have spent thousands of dollars just for Dr. ***** to say, there is nothing else I can do I said well how come I still feel so much pain in my right shoulder then? he said, I don't and there's nothing I can do he wasn't God and didn't care. well, that's why I came to you doc you're a professional! Dr. ***** shrugged his shoulders and said oh well, I have done everything I know to do, I asked well what about a second opinion he said I'm just going to let you go to release you I said, so what do I do now doc? he said, I don't know its, not my problem and I'm the boss I run the show! what a way to treat his patients, I felt like I had been scammed, for my money the insurance money, and my health. Now I have to go and get a second opinion and spend more money I don't have.Initial Complaint

I was referred to surgeon by my provider. I needed surgery & Company rep. ********(ext ***** informed me I was required to pay as my share of $1944, 2 days prior to surgery or no surgery. ******** took payment of 1944 on 21Nov22. I was only required to pay approx 241.17 for procedure according to BCBS Federal Emp. insurance. After all claims for surgery were paid I had $1702.83 credit with the business. I started receiving statements for the company in Jan. of 23. I called to request funds remaining on account to pay outstanding amount. I was told they needed to move the funds from the surgery side to the clinic side and it would take approx 6 weeks to complete and at which time money would then be refunded back to me. I called in Feb. to get an update on my case. Request had NOT been completed. I again requested in Feb with a rep. "******" that money be sent from surgery to clinic to clear account. ****** gave me her direct# for future contact. I received another bill statement in Feb. for 270.21 I received a FINAL NOTICE for pmt dated 3/1. I received PAST DUE notice for pmt dated 3/8. I started calling billing dept. again for update on transfer. I was informed system was down every time I called for all of March. Going into April system just came back up around the 3rd. Every call made to get an update went to their collection company ********* Associates. According to them I have no account. I have continued to call and have ********, *******, or ****** call and give me an update. As of this morning- 10 April 2023, the request for transfer of funds from the surgery side to clinic was JUST submitted on 4 April 2023. This put my refund at least another 6 weeks out. I depleted our savings account for the "deposit" which according to BCBS I only ever have to deposit if my deductible hasn't been met and that I should wait for the EOB before making payment. My husband is about to deploy and we NEED our money to ensure he has funds.Business Response
