4/23/2024 My husband and I had a dentist appointment. When making the appointment I asked if Smile Montana took my insurance (****) they said yes. The **** website also listed the dentist office address as being in network. Nothing was said to me when I checked into my appointment about my insurance not being in network. I received a bill for the office visit and upon researching discovered the dentist office was not in network. I called and spoke to the office manager *****, she said i should have asked if my insurance was "in network" as opposed to just asking if they "took my insurance". My insurance web page was incorrect and the dentist office provided incomplete information at best when I made the appointment. I am not the insurance expert, I do not know all the code words. The dentist office is trying to blame me for the inaccuracy of my insurance website and the incomplete information I received from the dentist office. The business is taking advantage of consumers. At the time the appointment is made there should be a clear understanding if the insurance is in network, and of possible out of pocket costs. I am now stuck with a $346 bill because of poor communication. In my previous experience, dentist provide a detailed report of what is covered and what is patient responsibility before any care is given. Additionally there was no option to leave a review on their website, ******** page or instagram.

Smile Montana ************* bills your insurance as a courtesy.  In your patient paperwork you acknowledge that any unpaid services are your full responsibility. You were lead to believe that we were in network with your insurance company due to their misprint.  My recommendation to you was was to be more specific when talking to staff and to call your insurance company directly.  There was clearly a miscommunication and we were happy to help you out by giving a discount on your x-rays.  Leaving you with a balance of $168.00, not $346.
