Tried to cancel my subscription. The foreign country representative could barely speak English and directed me to use the online account management service. I signed in, checked 'cancel subscription', and was directed to call customer support, with whom I had just spoken. I called the number back and and spoke with *****. I spent the next 39 minutes on and off hold, being told that I had called and renewed the subscription on August 23rd, 2023. I was told this today, August 29th. She then told me it was paid through 8/23/2024. I said I did not make any call to renew and requested the supposed payment information. She could not come up with it, and after 11 minutes of periodic holds and "I'm still checking", I was told it was an error. I requested for the 5th time to please cancel the subscription. I was put on hold again for 4 minutes and then offered a reduced rate, to which I said please cancel. Then I was told that there was an amount due of $7.83 for two days service. I requested a confirmation number of the cancelation. I was put on hold for another 6 minutes. This hold/respond behavior continued until I got the number confirming the cancellation some 5 minutes later. *** Newspapers ought to be ashamed of themselves.
