On
May 21, 2020, Better Business Bureau recognized a pattern of complaints from
consumers regarding refunds for service fees. Consumers state they booked
reservations to vacation at various United States National Parks through
National Park Reservations and were charged a 10% booking fee; due to the
COVID-19 virus, consumers were forced to cancel their reservations. Consumers
allege National Park Reservations will not refund the 10% booking fee and
consumers further claim the company is unresponsive to requests for assistance.
On
May 22, 2020, Better Business Bureau reached out to National Park Reservations.
On June 01, 2020, National Park Reservations sent the following letter to
Better Business Bureau.
“National
Park Reservations is a reservation agency and call center providing lodging and
activity reservation planning and assistance to customers traveling to the
National Parks.
For
our service, National Park Reservations charges a 10% reservation fee based on
the total amount of reservations made. It is National Park Reservations policy
that this fee is non-refundable after the reservations are made, but can be
re-used in the event the customer cancels the reservations. This policy is
disclosed by voice recording and again through agent announcement through phone
reservations and by required affirmative acknowledgment and acceptance when
using the online forms.
Of
course, the Covid-19 crisis has been an extraordinary situation, requiring
closure by many of the parks and lodging providers. National Park Reservations
have increased the customer service department and continues to help all our
customers receive any refundable nightly deposit from the providers. We have
also extended the “re-use” time period allowed for the reservation fee to up to
two years for future National Park Travel and Activities.
Despite
this policy, National Park Reservations is also evaluating refund of the
reservation fee on individual case basis with factors such as park closure,
dates of reservations, property closure, and gateway or in park properties.
National
Park Reservations values its relationship with the Better Business Bureau as
well as our National Park Vacation customers. Despite difficult times, National
Park Reservations remains committed to our customers and our great staff. We
are sure that this crisis will end and people can again fully enjoy traveling
to Americas Beautiful National Parks.
Consumers
can contact National Park Reservations at 855-260-1738 or visit their website
at www.nationalparkreservations.com.
National Park Reservations is an independent business and they are not
affiliated with the U.S. National Park Service.”
