This company calls you 3-4 times in a row on work days, making you think there is an emergency and luring you in with deceptive sales practices. 3-4 phone calls in a row is what I would consider harassment. This company needs to be fined/reprimanded for this type of behavior. I am asking to be placed on the DO NOT contact list with them.Business response

Equis Financial continues to charge my debit card for leads, even though I have reached out MULTIPLE times to various service reps requesting that they cancel any orders and no longer charge my card. This activity is predatory, and outright theft. I have cancelled any lead orders within the system and requested that the no longer send me leads, as well as reaching out to customer service. The issue has not been resolved, and I am incredibly unhappy.Business response

Company uses deceptive and misleading language in mailers to trick new home buyers into thinking there is a problem they need to address with their new home. The language is specifically calibrated to look like it is coming from the mortgage lender, without explicitly stating so, since that would be illegal. These mailers claim that "an important matter needs your attention", which at best is a very grandiose way of saying "we would like to sell you optional insurance" and at worst is borderline fraud. Their own name is not shown anywhere on the mailer, but the lender name and home address are very prominently displayed, in a manner that makes it appear that the mail is from the lender or another party associated with the mortgage, rather than a completely unrelated insurance company. Based on some of the complaints already made, it appears that they are happy to hide behind the "third party" and "contractor" shield, rather than addressing the problem. Whether or not the company structure contains independent sales or lead companies, Equis could absolutely outline acceptable practices for its third parties if it wanted to. It chooses not to, because the excuse is convenient, and because the deceptive practices are effective. False and deceptive advertising is illegal specifically because it is such an effective form of fraud. Skirting the lines of what is morally, ethically, and legally right is a shameful and embarrassing practice, and the fact that the BBB keeps a company like this at such a high rating of A- is embarrassing for the BBB organization. I'd like for the company to communicate acceptable practices and standards to their third parties and put an end to this unethical business practice.Business response

I am rejecting this response because: It does nothing to address my issue. They will continue to systematically deceive folks and hide behind third parties to skirt responsibility.Initial Complaint

On 3/10/2023 I was called by ******************* to join Equis Financial. After doing my research, I believed Equis Financial would be a good fit, but what happened after, I now realize Equis Financial has some work to do to maintain relationships and have good customer service. I have been in the insurance industry for over 10years and never had an issue with an IMO until now. I was asked to be appointed with 5 carriers, but got approved for 4. Because I have a vector with a carrier I will never use, I was discontined by ******************* and her upline. They were very rude and discriminated against because of a Vector with a carrier I will never use. I was told I could not work for Equis and was not given someone to talk to after my request. My only request was to be released from Equis because **** does not want to work with me. Now I am stuck with Equis although they do not want to work with me. I want a release and an apology for poor customer service.Business response

Good morning ********,
We understand your position and do wish you luck moving forward. Much like yourself, your manager is an independently contracted agent. As such, Equis Financial does not dictate who decide to work with. Unfortunately in this case, it does seem that your manager has decided to move on. In situations such as this, we would ask that agents follow carrier guidelines for transfer without release. As you may know, each carrier can develop separate guidelines to deal with transfers.
We hope that this provides some clarity.

I received a phone call from ********************************* on 11/8/22. He expressed to me that he was calling from my financial institution in regard to a form I filled out for mortgage insurance. I expressed to him that I did not fill out a form regarding anything to do with mortgage insurance. I then questioned him as to why my caller ID was showing Coldwell Banker if he was contacting me from my banking institution? He stated that he used to be a realtor and that it was a long story. Then he proceeded to ask me about a form I filled out for mortgage protection and if I recall doing so. I stated to him that I wasn't interested and thank you. His response to that was, "Well then you shouldn't have filled out the form Jackass" and hung up. I immediately called him back and was sent to voicemail. Then my number was blocked. Come to find out, **************** is still a practicing real estate agent with Coldwell Banker in *************, **. I contacted *************** and spoke with the broker, who informed me that he is aware that **************** does work as a licensed insurance agent and that he cannot control what he does outside of Coldwell, but that he will address why his number comes up as Coldwell Banker when calling people. After a little bit of research, I found that **************** does not work for my banking institution. Infact, he works for Equis Financial and that the company has a reputation of using scare tactics and misrepresenting themselves. I am on the *** registry, and this was an illegal solicitation, stating he was from my banking institution, with unethical practices and verbal abuse. I want my information removed from their call list and any contact from ***********************************, Equis Financial, or any of its affiliates and representatives of this company to cease and desist. If I am contacted again, I will be filing a complaint with the Attorney General and will seek legal action. To those who have dealing with ****************, Caveat Emptor.Business response

This company is fraudulent as heck. They sent me a mailer that falsity represents themselves as my mortgage company. It was nearly impossible to know the difference And when I called in they sound like my mortgage company and asked for my private information. At the end of the phone call is the only time I could tell they were a different company. This deceivingly lead generation tactic is criminal! And worst they sent me a text message after text message and even what I said STOP they kept trying. This is a horrible company whoever they are they should be shut down by law enforcement.Business response

A representative for Equis Financial met myself in person, at my house, to sell mortgage insurance. They took all of my information necessary for mortgage insurance and insisted that nothing would happen and I would not be purchasing the insurance without consent. As they left, I got an email from a mortgage insurance provider saying "Congratulations on purchasing mortgage insurance!". I now have a mortgage insurance policy with ******* Insurance Solutions.Business response

I refinanced my mortgage last September. After that I kept getting these official looking cards in the mail that said I needed to call about my mortgage that I just refinanced and give some information. I called the number (I forget what it is now) and it asked me some questions on a phone tree like recording about myself and my spouse and the. Instructed me that I was done and okay to hang up. A few days later I get a call from an underwriter telling me she needs to meet with me about something important to my mortgage so I set up an appointment and she came to my house and met with my spouse and myself. This is where I learn she is with Equis and trying to sell us mortgage insurance. We decline and send her on her way. A month later I got a call from another underwriter with Equis, ***************************. I tell him I dont want mortgage insurance and he rudely asked if my spouse died tomorrow could I afford my mortgage. I told him he was rude and never to call again and hung up. The next week he texts me that we need to set up an appointment to get my mortgage insurance going. I text him back I dont want it and to never text me again and blocked his number. A couple weeks later he texts from a new number about an appointment. I didnt respond and blocked that number. Today he shows up at my house and tells my spouse we have an appointment, which we most certainly do not. My spouse says no and we dont want mortgage insurance and he leaves. I really am upset that he came to my house and lied about an appointment. That goes beyond harassment. I am scared now in my house and dont know what I can do to keep this man away from me. Just because I called a phone tree and pressed some buttons should not give anyone the right to come to my house uninvited.Business response

I supposedly filled out a mail solicitation for information on mortgage insurance. I am getting phone calls and texts from people wanting to sell me mortgage insurance and are very pushy and sometimes rude. I tell each of them I am not interested in their product and to take me off of their solicitation list. Last person said rudely _then why did you sign the card and rudely hung up. They say they will ( take me off call list) but then I get another call or text almost every day. I think my name is being sold by Equis Financial on a call list to independent insurance agents. Last person said they got my name form equis financial. I have no idea how to make it stop. The people I ask to stop calling probably cross me off their list but my name is sold again.Business response

Equis Financial will not stop contacting to purchase their insurance offer, despite me telling them I am not interested. I have told each representative not to contact me. One of their reps even came to my home after I told them I am not interested in their products. Their claim is I requested the information so they don't have to stop contacting me and urging me to buy. I do not want their services. I do not want them to contact me anymore.Business response
