On July 17, 2023, Discount Movers moved my belongings from my old residence to my new residence. Before moving the larger pieces of furniture, the movers were asked if they had materials to protect my items, to which they responded “yes” and “they would wrap my mattress and two-piece couch”. Upon arrival at my new residence while unpacking my belongings, I observed the movers transporting my mattress and couch into my house uncovered. This led me to inspect my belongings, wherein I discovered a hole ripped in the top and bottom of my mattress and tears in the fabric of my couch and dirt stains on the sides of my couch as if it had been dragged. I called the owner of the chain, Ardean L*********, to notify him of the damage to my property. Ardean requested photos of the items and I told him I would be following up with him for the replacement and/or repair of these items. Ardean had his workers take pictures of my couch and bed as well. I also sent photos of my belongings from my personal phone to Ardean on 07/17/2023. I contacted Ardean by phone on 07/19/2023 and left a voicemail requesting a callback and sent a text, both of which were ignored. On 07/20/2023, I went to the office in-person to speak to Ardean. Ardean accepted responsibility for the damage due to the negligence of his employees and agreed to an out-of-pocket settlement. On 07/25/2023, I notified Ardean via text of the settlement amount. Ardean ignored my correspondence. I attempted again to contact Ardean via telephone with no response. On 08/01/2023, I emailed a letter of intent to sue to Ardean, left a voicemail, and text notifying him. Ardean then returned my phone call to left me know he was out-of-town and stated he would give me $750 on the following Monday. I let Ardean know that $750 was unacceptable because of the value of my couch and mattress, both of which are less than two years old. The combined current value of these items exceed $1800. I asked Ardean to hold for a moment and he hung up on me. I texted Ardean to ask why he hung up on me and he responded saying he was out of town and he would call me on Monday (08/07/2023). I let Ardean know that if I did not receive a call from him on Monday by the end of business that I would begin legal proceedings to recover damages.
