I bought a puppy from them. I attempted to reach out to get her registration paperwork to register my dog. They state that they do not have her number on file and there system went down so they have no record. They can see where I purchased her but can give me the breeder info so I can get her AKC paperwork.

Hello, thank you for allowing me to reply to this complaint. Complainant adopted a ****** Bulldog from ** in January of 2020. At the time of adoption, we gave the complainant the puppy's registration papers. We received an email from the complainant in May of ********************************************************* a car accident and was requesting another copy. We informed her that we had a system crash and do not have access to records in 2020. Since we had multiple French Bulldog partner breeders in 2020, we are unable to track down the papers without her registration application number which she was unable to provide. I do apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused the complainant. However, she was given her registration papers on adoption day.

I purchased a mini golden doodle puppy from them for around $2500. Around March 18th after a few days of having him, I explained to them I could no longer keep him and needed to return the puppy. At this time they explained I would lose my money but they can rehome the puppy. I honestly thought they were saying I would lose my $400 deposit. I was not made aware prior to receiving my puppy, that in the case anything happened I would lose ALL of my money. I want to dispute the amount of $2,109,10. Which is the balance amount after the deposit. I feel as though since I no longer have the puppy and we only had him for less than a week, I should be able to receive my money back. I don’t have money to just throw away and I feel like I was not made aware and if I was I would had thought twice about purchasing the puppy.

      Hi there,
I am sorry to hear that you were unable to keep the Mini Goldendoodle that you adopted from us. I understand that sometimes, due to unforeseen circumstances, clients like yourself are unable to keep the dog that they acquired from us. Our presiding Veterinarian recommends that once a puppy has left the club, that they do not comes back to the Club due to disease prevention reasons. While in our care, as well as the breeders care, we have extremely strict disease prevention protocols in place. Once the puppies leave our Club, we no longer have control over what the puppy could potentially pick up or be in contact with. Puppies immune systems are not fully developed until they are around 16 weeks of age. Therefore, they are more susceptible to viruses and other health concerns at this young age. Some viruses can have an incubation time of up to 14 days. We have this policy in place for the health and protection of the puppies at our Club. In our terms and conditions, that you signed, it does state that for no reason is the dog to come back to the club. With that being said though, we truly care about our puppies after they leave us and don't want to see them end up in a shelter or rescue group. That is why the Club has our Homes-for-Life program. This is for our clients who have adopted a dog from us, like yourself, and are unable to keep them. We put them in contact with a family who will be able to care for the dog and give them a loving home. This program is not a reselling platform, so no monetary funds can cross hands, the sole purpose of this program is to keep our babies in loving permanent homes. I know that you were so excited to get this puppy for your daughter and I'm sorry it didn't work out. I appreciate you understanding.

      Customer response

      03/27/2023

I am rejecting this response because:

the paper work I received did not show anywhere on it that I would not receive a refund. I was not made aware of that on paper or verbally. I gave the dog back and I just want my money back. You can keep the deposit. I would just want the remaining balance back. Because that means your company got paid for the dog twice. Once from me and then from the new owners.

      Business response

      03/28/2023

No, ma’am, we did not get paid twice for the dog. You paid us for the puppy. Then you gave (for free) the puppy to another family. All we did was find you a family to give the dog a way to. We were not paid by the family you gave your dog too. When you called in, we were very clear that there was no monetary reimbursement for you if you went with our homes for life program. If you wanted money for the puppy, we suggested you to resell the puppy.

I purchased my beautiful cavapoo last year for $2,209. She is a wonderful pup, but riddled with health problems. Any time I have reached out to Georgia Dog Club about their health guarantee, they find a way to say something isn’t covered. In the past 2.5 months ALONE, I have paid over $600 in vet bills, plus medications for my girl. She has been diagnosed with bilateral luxating patella, collapsing trachea, and something intestinal that is still being figured out. She’s on medications that cost over $150 a month just for her stomach and the orthopedic specialist wants to do surgery on both knees.. at $3500 a knee! The vet has said this is all likely genetic, and to reach out to her breeder. I have gotten NO information regarding her parents or the other pups from her litter. I love this dog to death, and I am SO disappointed that Georgia Dog Club has been breeding inappropriate dogs. When I researched the company prior to adopting her, they didn’t have negative reviews, now.. they’ve got plenty in the year since she was born. Do NOT trust this breeder. Their pups are riddled with health problems that are costly AND I hate having to see my baby suffer because the breeder just wants to make quick money. It’s disgusting.

Hi, thank you for contacting me about little ****. I am very concerned about your puppy. I investigated the situation and according to our records, the last time you called in on was on Dec 23rd, 2022, and at that time you mentioned that your pup was going to see a specialist on January 4th.  After you made us aware of the concern, we asked for you to kindly send us over the veterinarian records from your primary veterinarian and the specialist. Upon my review of the records from your primary veterinarian, I see in the findings: “Stage 1 luxation, suspect mild injury, ligament related. No drawer signs.” That means the vet suspected that an INJURY was the cause of the knee problem and there was no abnormality of the knee motion (no drawer sign). Also, in the recorded history it says: “Happened Saturday, started limping worse yesterday. Had Zoomies yesterday”. That statement leans in the direction of an injury not a hereditary disability. If it was a congenital disorder, you would traditionally see a gradual decline, not sudden, like in ****’s case. They prescribed her pain medication, *******, and that upset her stomach to then cause GI issues. I understand that this is the finding from just one Veterinarian. That’s why we asked for the records from the specialist, in addition, to see what their opinion is and how they are wanting to resolve the issue. We have not received those records yet and have not heard back from you since that day on December 23rd, 2022.  If you would be so kind as to send us over your pup’s records, we will be happy to have our veterinarian investigate the matter and see if this is eligible for a warranty claim. Our warranty covers life threatening diseases or disabilities that are hereditary. Unfortunately, we are not able to cover claims that are injury related. I have had an exam done on both parents and neither parent have any knee issues. I also reached out to ****’s siblings, and they are all happy and healthy also.
A small portion of a bill that you attached to your complaint does not give us any medical information about the situation. I would appreciate it if you could please send us over all notes from the specialist and all notes since 12/23/22. The health and care of our puppies is our top priority and if this is a legitimate congenital issue, I will stand behind it. However, the information sent to me so far does not sustain it. I am looking forward to working together regarding your complaint.

On June 17, 2022 I purchased a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel from the Charlotte Dog Club. On their website it said her father was an AKC registered merle Cavalier. I sent the AKC paperwork in to the AKC immediately after purchase. I still have no AKC papers. Because my puppy is not a recognized color of the breed the AKC has reached out to the original breeder for information twice but the breeder is not responding and AKC will not register my puppy without a response from the breeder. I also found out from AKC that her father was not a merle, but was a blenheim color. So the website was incorrect, misleading in my view. I never would have purchased this puppy since she was a merle had Charlotte Dog Club website not showed the father as a registered merle. So far the Charlotte Dog Club has not been helpful. They claim the puppy was already registered and that the paperwork I sent to AKC was only a transfer of ownership. According to the AKC, this is not true. Either way, I have no paperwork to even indicate that my puppy is a Cavalier. The AKC won't send me any paperwork. This dog cost me $3,700. One of the employees of the Charlotte Dog Club mentioned several times that this is a 'rare' color for a Cavalier. Apparently it is since the AKC doesn't even recognize it. I am considering small claims court if I don't get satisfaction.

I cannot apologize enough for the challenges that you have been having with Gypsy's registration papers. I have been working diligently with the AKC to see how we can solve it. After in-depth conversations with them their decision is to acknowledge the colors that the Cavalier parent group recognizes. I explained that you had a DNA test and your puppy came back as a pure Cavalier with both parents being AKC registered. In addition to that, you have the AKC registration application. My efforts came to no avail, they replied to me that the pattern on your pup is not acknowledged quite yet. The AKC has visited our partner breeder multiple times and are pleased with the quality and care that the puppies and parents are receiving. I do appreciate you speaking to me earlier and allowing us to be able to come to a resolution. You have been a delight to work with and we greatly value you and appreciate your choosing to adopt your beautiful Gypsy from us. Thank you for your communication about this matter and allowing us to be part of the solution.

I am a senior lady living on a fixed income who was deceived by fraud and deception on the Charlotte Dog Club website and bought a “cavapoo” on April 3, 2022 believing it was a breed because it was listed under breeds. Later, after spending $1,995.00  I  find out it is a mutt and a sick one at that!  Abigail was coughing when I was looking at her at the Charlotte Dog Club and I just thought she was excited. Due to Covid and the vet shortage the soonest that I could get a vet appointment was April 21, 2022. More fraud and deception from the Charlotte Dog Club list the following  mutts as breeds: doodles, cockapoos, bernedoodles, mini golden doodles, birchapoos, chavachon, havapoo, multipoo, mini aussiedoodle, springerdoodles, sheepadoodles, shih-poos, teddy bears, and yorkipoos. THESE ARE NO SUCH BREEDS THEY ARE MUTTS!!! The Charlotte Dog Club states on their website that “A designer breed is a cross between two purebred dogs to get the best characteristic of both parents”. This is more fraud and deception! The site also states that they are loving responsible breeders when in fact NO loving responsible breeder would ever cross two breeds or ever sell to a pet store or any establishment that buys and sells puppies. They wouldn’t let us come into the Charlotte Dog Club because they didn’t want us to see how the puppies were housed and brought them outside to us. That should have been a major red flag! I want my $731.15 refunded by the Charlotte Dog Club  that I spent on the vet bills from buying a sick puppy from them. The responsible breeders are the show breeders who breed for the health of the dog, they are Breeders of Merit. AKC believes in honoring responsible breeders who have gone above and beyond on health issues, temperament, and genetic screening, as well as to the individual care and placement of puppies in responsible homes. That’s why they started the AKC Breeder of Merit Program: To give breeders a way to prove their dedication to preserving breed characteristics and producing healthy, well-socialized puppies. They consider them the most conscientious and most committed breeders. A breeder of Merit would never cross any breeds as it doubles the number of health issues the puppies are prone to have. Backyard breeders and puppy mills are the ones responsible for these poorly bred mutts and the only ones that sell to the puppy retailers, pet stores, and clubs. All of these establishments deceive the public with these “cute names” because they are only out to make a quick buck and are not concerned about the health of the dogs, period! The Charlotte Dog Club breeds French Bulldogs that produce puppies with blue eyes which is a fault in French Bulldogs, ask any French Bulldog Breeder Of Merit or read the AKC breed standard for eye color. The owners of Charlotte Dog Club have owned pet stores in Virginia for years. The one in Roanoke recently closed suddenly.
A Lhasa Apso show breeder just sold puppies with a GRAND CHAMPION SIRE AND DAM FOR $2,000.00. THE SAME PRICE THAT I PAID FOR A MUTT! I COULD HAVE BOUGHT A WELL BRED DOG THAT BOTH PARENTS SHOWED AT THE WESTMINSTER DOG SHOW IN NEW YORK AND WERE GRAND CHAMPIONS!!! I feel like a fool for being deceived and paying $1,995.00  for a MUTT WHEN I COULD HAVE BOUGHT A WELL BRED DOG FROM A BREEDER OF MERIT FOR THE SAME PRICE!  In addition, having to spend $731.15 on vet bills because she was sick. I want my $731.15 refunded to me by the Charlotte Dog Club. Attached are eight pages of vet bills and a letter from the vet. I do not have a computer or type and my only friend who does is terminally ill and today was the first day she felt able to submit my complaint. You can see the purchase date and the soonest date I could get an appointment with the vet due to Covid and the vet shortage. The vet bills are attached as well as a letter from the one of the vets ( total of eight pages). I also want to see documentation from who and where Abigail was purchased. She has eaten her feces since day one and continues to this day.
I will keep Abigail as I am attached to her. I imagine there will be more vet bills in the future because she is a poorly bred puppy…so sad!
Thank you for your help in getting my $731.15 refunded from The Charlotte Dog Club and for the documentation from who and where Abigail was purchased.
      Sincerely,
      ******* *****

      Dear *******,
I sure wish you would have reached out to me about this matter before submitting a complaint. I would have been happy to help you through her cough and the veterinarian expenses. According to the BBB rules, before submitting your complaint, you must attempt to resolve the issue directly with the company. Your motive in this complaint is too liable my business with false accusations and lies. Our breeders are exceptional and they work hand in hand with the AKC. That is why I can extend a 10-year health guarantee. I am distressed at how you view Abigail. She is a beautiful, sweet Cavapoo. I will resolve your complaint by extending a full refund of your adoption price and reimburse you for your veterinarian bills. In return you must bring Abigail back to the Charlotte Dog Club, if she has any medical needs they will be tended to and I will place her in a home were she is loved. This offer is extended for 10 days.

I am rejecting this response because:

       Melissa,

I responded back, but sent it by accident before I finished. Will you please add this for me? Thank you. She said they work closely with AKC which registers only the purebred dogs. AKC DOES NOT REGISTER MUTTS such as doodles, cockapoos, bernedoodles, mini golden doodles, birchapoos, chavachon, havapoo, multipoo, mini aussiedoodle, springerdoodles, sheepadoodles, shih-poos, teddy bears, and yorkipoos. THESE ARE NO SUCH BREEDS THEY ARE MUTTS. Please feel free to call AKC and verify this. Will you add that for me please? She is still lying about the breeders calling them exceptional and does not want to "expose" them and still calling Abigail a "cavapoo" when there is no such breed. If they were exceptional breeders they would want buyers to know who they are and show the sire and dam of each puppy like the REAL EXCEPTIONAL BREEDERS WHO ARE THE BREEDERS OF MERIT DO! I did not make any false accusations or lie about anything in the letter. She has projected what she does and turned it toward me. I am the one who filed the complaint. This is not about me. AKC will verify what I said about these puppies being mutts and they WILL NOT REGISTER THEM! I explained all the FACTS NOT LIES in my letter and everything can be verified.

I said in the letter that I am attached to her and will keep her. I love her or I would give her back. She has a wonderful home with me.

READ THE LETTER AS TO THE RESOLUTION THAT I WANT. You skate around the issues! It is so obvious that you DO NOT want to reveal the backyard/puppy mill breeder.

I detailed in the letter what a responsible breeder is and yours definitely does not fit the definition!

      Business response

      08/30/2022

I do want the public to see and understand that there are people like this complainant that will stoop to lies and makeup falsehoods to harm good responsible breeders for no logical reason. Simply because they don’t like what we do or have been brainwashed by an animal rights activist. We understand that our club is not for everyone, but we do a great job at breeding dogs and truly value our clients. I do want to thank my future clients for reading through this lengthy communication and appreciate you doing your due diligence on the Charlotte Dog Club and finding a responsible breeder.
When Abigail was under our care she was not coughing. You adopted her on April 3rd and we called on the 4th to check in, we left you a voicemail. We spoke on the 7th to talk about her coat, and you said she was very active and playful. We also chatted about her eating habits to make sure you were feeding her enough. We spoke on the 9th and you had asked if she should be wearing a harness and had some potty-training questions, which we gladly answered. You called on the 16th asking for advice about your puppy putting things in her mouth. Not once did you mention on any of our calls that your puppy had a cough. You took your puppy to the vet on the 21st for her first wellness exam, that’s 18 days after you adopted the puppy from us. On that visit, the Veterinarian told you that you needed to feed your puppy more because she was a little thin. You didn’t go into the Vet for a cough until the 27th of April. That is 24 days after you adopted the puppy from us.  Do you think it would be more likely that maybe the puppy caught kennel cough at the vet on the 21st? That would be the correct incubation time for kennel cough or a similar virus. Abigail started coughing 24 days after you adopted her from us. Yet you say, she is from a puppy mill or backyard breeder because she started coughing almost a month after entering your home? That doesn't make any logical sense. You had a thin puppy on the 21st and didn’t even take your puppy to the vet until 18 days after you adopted her from us. According to our health warranty a new puppy parent needs to take their puppy to the vet within 10 days after adoption. We were very clear to communicate this to you on adoption day, but you disregarded our directions. You are claiming false accusations about my business while you were the one that was not properly caring for Abigail. In your desired reimbursement, you asked for routine vaccines and normal puppy care to be reimbursed to you as well. Your motive in this complaint is to libel my business with false accusations and lies. There are too many false statements in your complaint to count. What I don’t understand the most, is why you chose to adopt from us knowing that Abigail was clearly a designer, then complain that she is exactly what we told you she was. Yet you love her and won’t give her up. It just does not make any sense. You never reached out to me directly about a reimbursement for your bills. If this was about the money, you would have been in contact with me directly. As far as the breeder is concerned, I am proud to say that I am the owner of Abigail’s parents, and they are happy and healthy! Ruby is her mom, she is a beautiful red Cavapoo and Devon is her dad. He is our cute little red Poodle stud. I hope you can understand and respect that I do not feel comfortable giving my address out. It’s clear what your agenda is and that you are being fed false information by an uneducated animal rights activist. I don’t appreciate you attempting to harm my company in this way, so unethically.
The Charlotte Dog Club, as a club of breeders, does in fact work together with the AKC and are very proud of the relationship, they are a great resource! In fact, the AKC inspector visited the Club just a couple months ago. He was so pleased with how clean everything was and how well the puppies were taken care of.  All our kennels have AKC purebred dogs as parents and therefore are an AKC certified kennel. This entails that we are all spontaneously inspected by the AKC. During the inspection process, they look at the adult parents, puppies, cleanliness, socialization, exercise plans and records. The AKC also hosts educational seminars specifically for dog breeders that we enjoy attending. At the seminars we are educated by speakers who are Veterinarians. There, we learn the best breeding practices and it helps us to stay on top of the newest and greatest advancements in the dog breeding world. As you can see on our site, we adopt purebred dogs, like purebred Poodles, in addition to designer breeds like your little Abigail (Cavapoo). She is part Poodle and part Cavalier King Charles. Before you adopted her you clearly saw on her profile what her parent makeup was, we are very clear and transparent about the parent information. As you know from how much you love your little girl, designers make great pets! Cavapoos have the love and affection of the Cavalier, while the Poodle part helps them to not shed as much as a pure Cavalier, that’s why they are one of Americas favorite designers! We also do extensive DNA testing on our parents to help ensure the parents are passing along the best traits. We have also checked in on all of Abigail’s siblings and I am happy to say that they are all very happy, healthy, and bringing lots of joy to their families.
I will be humble and refund Abigails owner her veterinarian bills, although, myself and my Club have not done anything to deserve her libel words and false accusations. If this is agreeable to the complainant, I will email her a refund agreement and get her a check in the mail.

      Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID 17763586, and I accept it.

I said in the complaint due to Covid and a vet shortage is what caused the delay in getting an appointment with the vet. She was coughing outside when I was looking at her. Why don't you allow people to come inside? What don't you want them to see?

I presented the facts about the fraud and deception listing the mutts as breeds and provided proof from AKC that they are not breeds posting the link showing their pamphlet and "NONE OF YOUR SO CALLED BREEDS WERE LISTED ON TH AKC pamphlet."   I provided a Breeders of Merit link proving who the outstanding breeders are. They breed for health and would never mix breeds or ever sell to a the Charlotte Dog Club, pet store, or any other establishment that buys and sells puppies. Every breed has a club of America where anyone can find truly reputable breeders and their dogs are listed in the AKC pamphlet on pages 2-5. It is really sad what you are doing to these poor dogs. Anyone reading this knows the facts speak for themselves. The shelters are FULL OF MUTTS BECAUSE OF BREEDERS LIKE YOU! You can enjoy a nice lifestyle because of all the money you make selling the mutts for the same and even more than Breeders of Merit sell their puppies for who have champion and grand champion sires and dams! I feel sorry for the puppies. They are pitiful looking and don't have nice coats. Read what the vet said in his letter about Abigail's coat.Really sad about the blue eyed French Bulldogs! You should be ashamed doing what you are doing!

Thank you for mailing the check for the vet bills. I have learned a valuable lesson ($1,995.00 one) and will educate others to do their homework before buying a puppy.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and I accept it.

      Melissa,

I got the check from the Charlotte Dog Club and cashed it yesterday. Enclosed with it was a letter not addressed to me ( because she knew that I would never agree to her terms) that said, "Enclosed per our agreement is a check in the amount of $731.15 representing the refund we agreed to in exchange for your agreement to make no public comments about Charlotte Dog Club and to withdraw your BBB complaint. We appreciate your taking it down and wish you the best with Abigail."

      It was signed:

      Stephanie

      Managing Member

      Charlotte Dog Club

The letter was not addressed to anyone. It just had a date of 9/19/22 on it in the place of a name. My name was on the envelope.

I made NO SUCH AGREEMENT WITH HER. When she called me shortly after I filed the complaint I told her it was going through the BBB. She said she would mail the check, but refused to say when after I asked her several times and so I hung up. I reported this to you.

On August 30, 2022 she responded to the BBB and at the end of her lengthy response she stated,

"I will be humble and refund Abigails owner her veterinarian bills, although, myself and my Club have not done anything to deserve her libel words and false accusations. If this is agreeable to the complainant, I will email her a refund agreement and get her a check in the mail."

After waiting patiently for it for about two weeks I emailed you to let you know that I never received it. She called or emailed my daughter who may have agreed to this, but my daughter does not have anything to do with my business. I was the one who purchased Abigail with my money.

I definitely want this complaint to be posted on the BBB site as she needs to be held accountable for her actions and hopefully save other people from being ripped off thousands of dollars.

Do I check satisfied now on the last email from the BBB as today may be the last day, I am not sure. I just want to be assured that my complaint will be posted on the BBB site. Thank you.

      Melissa,

Here as a link that I would like for you to include in the complaint so people can see how bad it is breeding golden retrievers with other breeds. Thanks.

Date: October 11, 2021 I purchased a dog. Amount: $3,472.04 plus expenses incurred later. Serious problems developed with the dog. Initially the GDC agreed to a partial refund and return of my purchase. Then, they stipulated a non-disclosure agreement as a nonnegotiable condition. I countered with - for a full refund I would sign the document. The GDC then refused to accept the return or issue any refund, and threatened to have me charged with a crime (abandonment of a dog) if I brought the dog back. Total refusal to honor the Warranty.

      Hi *****,

I am so sorry to hear about your potential health concerns. In our previous conversations, I requested some documentation from your Veterinarian and you said you didn't have any. If something has changed, submit all Veterinarian documentation of the proposed diagnosis. In regards to your puppy having vaccines before adoption day, we are licensed and we have to administer what our presiding Veterinarians recommends. I value their opinion and all vaccines and medications were administered in the best interest of your puppy, in a preventative manor. Even though your situation is not eligible for a warranty claim, I felt terrible for your puppy and how degrading you were to the puppy. I truly do care about the puppy and it breaks by heart that she is not in a loving home. My previous offer does stand if you would like to bring her back. We should do what is in the best interest of the puppy.

      10 Year Congenital Warranty
The 10 year congenital warranty requires that you have had your puppy examined by a licensed veterinarian within the first 10 days of taking possession and have kept your puppy under regular veterinarian care. If the above conditions are met, Charlotte Dog Club LLC warrants to the original purchaser( the warranty is not transferable) the following: If within the first 3 year period your puppy is diagnosed with a life threatening, congenital disorder, we will offer a replacement puppy of equivalent or lesser value at no cost to you. If within the remaining 7 years, your puppy is diagnosed with a life threatening congenital disorder, we will offer you a replacement puppy of equivalent or lesser value at a 50% discount.

      Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and I accept it with provisions.  I can't stand the thought of the operator's stated anguish over their puppy being in an inappropriate home. I can imagine the lost sleep, crying their eyes out. So, that said; following our Vet's advice, we had the dog spayed and she is recovering now. I accept the original offer made by the Dog Club to take the dog back and receive $1,000 to offset my expenses. I will not sign any non-disclosure document. However, the Dog Club can arrange to meet me in Duluth, Georgia to recover possession of the dog, in exchange for a certified bank check made out to me, and signing a document stating to never discuss verbally or in writing any of the details or circumstances involved with the transaction of my buying a puppy dog from them. Essentially a document like the one they wanted me to sign. What could be more fair? The Dog Club can contact me soon to arrange a time and date to make the exchange in about a week (after the dog is recovered from the surgery).
