I reached out to Mr Handyman to build an enclosure inside my living room I explained over the phone that I pictured a chain link dog lot with added link roof fastened to the studs around my front door. I needed it secure and solid to submit it as part of a safety plan for an exotic animal. Mr Handyman told me over the phone that they could do this and I would receive a quote when they secure cost of materials. September 12th I received a quote for $2,300 and agreed to this amount. I emailed twice without response to make sure it would have a place for a lock as well as ask the dimensions. I called and spoke to Amy and she didn’t know dimensions but assured me it would have a lock. October 3rd Mr Handyman came to my house to install the enclosure. I was surprised that they added a tarp material as this wasn’t discussed in the quote. I told them that the county would not accept the tarp as adequate safety plan and advised that the animal was able to get through it by the 2nd day. They advised the material they choose would not support a metal material roof. I advised that this wasn’t the project I had discussed, it wasn’t completed to the standard the county required and doesn’t serve the purpose it was needed for. I was told they could extend the enclosure and use my ceiling as the top but it would cost me an additional almost $1,600. I emailed that I was very descriptive with exactly what I needed and we agreed to $2,300 for it to become $3,900 was out of my price range. I was offered a $592 discount. I advised Mr Handyman that I had agreed to $2,300 and was told they would be able to build the enclosure. I have again several emails of concerns and asking for a resolution that were not returned. I received another bill and emailed that the enclosure that they left is useless for my purpose and if they can’t make what I had asked for for the $2300 agreed then to come pick it up and repair the walls and floor where it is fastened. They replied they are not prepared to

I have not heard from the business in response to my complaint, but would still like a resolution to the problem.

I have attached all emails conversations for transparency.  I advised the customer that we could not add a flat cage style roof on the top of a dog kennel because all current model kennels are not tall enough to allow proper door operation and that we would not fabricate a metal or chain link roof system on top of a kennel due to risk of injury and liability concerns. I also advised that I had seen large monkey cages at the zoo that had mesh to allow for rainwater to come into the cage and still allow for the animals to be contained.  Soon after the picture below was taken by Mr. **** and while still under construction, we stopped working on the project. Mr. **** advised that we need another option and that Cricket didn’t like the tarp. In the picture my Technician was in the process of screwing (from the inside) the tarp every few Inches after tightly wrapping it around the top pole of the Kennel .  This would have secured the heavy-duty Canvas material to the cage and not allow the animal to contact the screw heads.  He advised that Mrs. **** wanted one of the side panels to go on top of the cage.  As you can see in the picture, we had to purchase an OEM A- Frame style Cage Roof System to allow for the Front door to open and adding a side panel wasn’t a possibility. I assured him that after we properly affixed the canvas as mentioned above the animal would not be able to enter the structure.  He advised us not to continue because his wife stated that the canvas would not work.  We then began to produce other options, one being to utilize the 3 unused side panels and cut them down, fabricate them back to a shorter size and mount them on top with OEM brackets. We could then mount the other end with commercial style u brackets by securing them each to all available ceiling rafters. I personally advised  Mr **** that the new option would of coarse come at an additona Cost.  His response to me was that they had paid over $10,000.00 for the animal and that cost wasn’t of concern.  That being stated and it now dark outside, and I promised him that I would send them another estimate and asked him if we could leave the 3 other side panels there so that they not be damaged being that the earliest availability to  come back was later the following week to complete the change order. He politely agreed that we could leave them there, and we left the site.  We later received email complaints from Mrs. **** , one even stating her disappointment in that the animal could escape the unfinished unit. We have gone above and beyond ( as you can see in the emails) to try to accommodate but she has remained adamant to no added cost.  The thing is we have never seen a copy of county requirements and never was told that Heavy Duty Closed cell Canvas couldn’t be used.  We guarantee all our workman ship for one year and have full confidence that if we were allowed to finish the project as we first intended the unit would not fail.  I spoke to MR. **** on a phone conversation asking if the animal was prone to chewing or scratching thru furniture or walls and he advised that she didn’t.

I am rejecting this response because:

There is no resolution. I made the complaint several months ago after I couldn’t get a response from the company requesting them to standby the original quote or to come pickup their materials and fix the damage of installation. The enclosure was not left unfinished the day they came to install, the owner Mike was there and I was on the phone with my husband after he sent me the picture having to use him to let Mike know that wasn’t what I had described on the phone and had agreed to with the quote. I was assured the animal would not be able to breech the structure, and within 2 days she had, and I let the company know as I was still waiting for a solution which eventually came in the form of another quote. I was never told that they couldn’t build the enclosure as I had described it or I wouldn’t have agreed to even start and would have kept looking for another company. I had never had a conversation about other materials being used at the zoo or otherwise with Mr Handyman. The animal was able tear the tarp around where the screws had punctured it and started to fray. Which is how she then used those weak areas to slip though. I did standby the fact that I was descriptive with what I wanted and agreed to the quote given to receive it. I did not accept another $1,600 quote for modifications that shouldn’t have been needed in the first place regardless of how much an animal costs (I’m not sure where the 10k came from because that’s not what I paid for her) and feel as though I was getting taken advantage of having read that. I requested they come collect their materials that were panels left in my yard and the defective cage. They said they were not in a position to do so. I had needed and started this enclosure 6 months ago, I had filed the complaint 3 months ago. I have since removed the materials that were left from around my front door and found someone able to build what I had asked for. 3 months ago the resolution I asked for was for Mr Handyman to standby the original build and quote. Now I would like Mr Handyman to come collect his materials after a failed build do to the company not being transparent with their intentions. Monkeys are very very clever and curious creatures even little 9lb baby ones which is why I was very clear with what I was needing. What Mr Handyman provided going against my requests was a puzzle for her to solve, not an enclosure to keep her safe.

The services provided by Mr. Handyman of Greensboro to the ****'s for their residence was provided in good faith.  The labor was provided, the materials were provided (A Dog Kennel, and an OEM Roof System and anchor fasteners to attach the unit to the inside of the structure.  There were several attempts on Mr. Handyman’s part to come to a resolution with the ****'s (ex. price discounting, designing alternate options, and providing further estimates) although none deemed justifiable as resolution or deemed us able to return to the property to complete the project.

Mr. Handyman provided service in the form of Labor (2 Men 8hrs each), purchased all the Job Materials, provided procurement for said materials and delivered them to the job location.  We were asked to halt all further construction on the project when we were approximately 95% complete, this being after an apparent phone conversation between Mr. and Mrs. ****, Mike the owner of Mr. Handyman of Greensboro asked/offered/and advised Mr. **** to allow us to finish the install of the Canvas as planned but we were denied the opportunity. Mr. **** asked us if we could come up with an alternate plan/option. We, while still on site, came up with a plan and discussed it in detail with Mr. ****.  This plan allowed for no further material to be purchased but would require additional labor.  Mr **** then asked if we could send an estimate for the proposed work.  Mr Handyman created and sent the requested estimate.  After several weeks of no communication and several attempted phone calls to Mrs **** and not receiving any further request to perform any further work our team  sent the invoice totaling the original estimated charges. We have never received payment, this being after multiple attempts.  Now it seems Mrs. **** as it states in the responding email has “got another Company to complete the job.
