This company towed my car illegally and then charged me unreasonable prices to get my car back. And then only allowed me to pay in cash or with a discover or Amex card which is not legal. Additionally they informed me that if I used an Amex or discovery card they would charge me a 20% percent fee which in the state of NC the fee should only be 2%. These practices are illegal and unethical based on the towing laws in **. They also gave me a handwritten itemized receipt.Business response

To whom it may concern the reason why the vehicle got towed is because the person driving a vehicle parked on the property got on the train and left their vehicle. Signs are posted. We will call by the owner of the property which sent us video footage of what the car looked like we responded there quickly And for a personal property tow thats called in. We charge 475 and they were charged $100 for dolleys and $75 gay fee which in ************** there is no cap on Impound and we gave her choice as bylaw to other forms of payment than cash And she didnt want to pay the Inconvenience fee which there is no law on how much percentage you can charge an inconvenience fee and as she stated, we gave her an itemized receipt, which is a law that ****************** has so to not have this problem again next time read the sign before you leave your car on the property. Have a nice day.Customer response

I am rejecting this response because: In **************, towing companies are required to accept multiple forms of payment, including credit and debit cards, for the release of towed vehicles. This requirement is part of efforts to regulate towing practices and protect consumers from predatory behaviors.
House Bill 1037, titled End Predatory Towing Fees and Practices, was introduced to address such issues. The bill mandates that towing companies accept payment via debit cards, credit cards, and cash during their operating hours, including at the time of towing. It also stipulates that any payment processing fee charged should not exceed 2% of the owed amount or the actual cost of processing the payment, whichever is less.So then telling me I could only pay using cash or **************** card or discovery cards card was illegal. Additionally for a tow company to write that they are charging an inconvenience fee is not up to code. There is no such thing as an inconvenience fee for a tow company its your job to tow a car so how is it inconvenient for you to do your job ? **************** DOES NOT HAVE debit cards and telling me what type of card I can use to make a payment when the law states it has to be debit credit or cash is unethical and illegal in the state or ************** ************ is practicing illegal practices Furthermore I would like to see the video of my car that the owner sent to remove the car since the company has a reputation of lying I just want to make sure that is also the truth

OK for the first thing that 2% that you read off that the Lay is, thats not an affect yet OK and I know cause Im up with the law. Second thing is Im not showing you a video of your vehicle. I do not have to second of all we did give you two forms of payment one payment with ****************. Second payment was discovered which is a credit card and a debit card I will go for the entertain this. You have a nice new year next time dont park your car on somebodys property.Customer response

I am rejecting this response because:Unfortunately, the grammar in the businesss response is so poor that its difficult to fully understand their explanation. However, it seems they are claiming that the law regarding the 2% processing fee is false, which is simply incorrect. The information I referenced comes directly from House Bill 1037, making their statement invalid. This further supports my point that the company is operating unlawfully.
Additionally, if you have evidence proving that my car was parked illegally, there should be no issue with providing it. Refusing to do so only raises more concerns about your practices. At this point, your actions suggest dishonest and unethical behavior, and I urge you to address this matter transparently and in compliance with the law.Initial Complaint

I am filing a complaint against Jusst *********************************************** regarding an incident on August 9, 2024. My car was booted after parking in a private lot next to a store I visited for only five minutes. Upon returning, the driver informed me I was in a private lot and demanded $330, payable in cash or ***************** to release my vehicle.Despite my preference for card payment, the driver pressured me to get cash, falsely claiming my card was declined. **************** later confirmed no transactions were attempted. After realizing I wasnt going to withdraw cash, the driver claimed their card machine was down and increased the fee to $475 when I asked him to tow my car instead. He then called a third party to tow the vehicle, as he was unable to do so himself. Once my car was towed, they increased the price to $520 without providing an itemized receipt or explaining the price changes. While I understand I was parked illegally for a short period, I believe Jusst ***********************************************s actions were unethical and predatory. They manipulated the payment process, raised prices without justification, and engaged in practices that seem designed to coerce customers into paying in cash.Business response

So to be clear you are aware you were parked where you shouldnt be so with that no matter how long you say you were inside the store, everyone says the same thing, you car was booted. You understood why and we Did in fact run the cars twice which I have included a picture straight from the merchant! This I cannot create myself! It may have been flagged I dont know! She was offered a cash option she didnt want to do that so the car was towed and to safely do so because of the make of the car it had to be dollied with a tow dolly which cost extra money. She told us to tow it! When she got to the yard to pick it up she still tried to use her card but now there is a tow involved not a boot fee. The fee has now changed she was aware before we towed it! We then tried to run the card again and it did go through. It could have been the server processor or it couldve been her card either way we dont have a reason to scam people. We are well within the law hence the reason why we are still in business. People have the same excuse everyday just dont want to take responsibility. I asked her when we ran the first credit card if she wanted the denial receipt she said NO I had office manager on the phone at the time so she can witness. Got to the yard ran her card asked her if she wanted a receipt she said yes we were writing it for her then she proceeded to say forget it I just want to go home! That again was her decision! We can always provide an itemized receipt if asked. Her bill was 300 for tow plus 100 labor for Dollies plus 75 gate fee plus 10% credit card fee. Total came to what she paid

Thank you for your prompt response and explanation. However, I must respectfully decline your position for the following reasons:
1.Parking Violation: I understand the vehicle was in a restricted area, but the time inside the store does not align with the duration typically associated with booting and towing. The time should have been considered when assessing the situation.
2.Payment Attempts: The card was attempted twice before the car was towed, but there were issues with the payment processor. This suggests the transaction could have been completed without resorting to towing. The customer should have been given a fair chance to pay the boot fee before additional charges were incurred.
3.Consent to Tow: You mentioned the car was towed after the customer declined a cash option. However, its unclear if the customer fully understood the implications. There seems to have been miscommunication, which could have been avoided with clearer communication.
4.Fees and Charges: The fees for towing, including dollies, gate fee, and credit card fee, are substantial. While within your rights, the customer wasnt properly informed of the total amount before towing, leading to confusion and frustration.
5.Receipts and Documentation: The issue regarding receipts raises concerns. While the customer may have declined the denial receipt initially, the lack of clear documentation and communication at that moment contributed to the overall dissatisfaction.
Given these points, I believe the situation could have been handled differently to avoid the additional charges and inconvenience. I respectfully request that you reconsider the fees charged or provide a more detailed explanation addressing these concerns.Initial Complaint

I called the company the minute he picked up my vehicle from the complex I live in. He acts like he doesnt know who the company was when the truck clearly states Justt he says he will call back in ten minutes & still play this role like he is clueless. He gave himself away when he said my cameras arent working and I dont see my truck in the yard and my boys are home sleep. Yet again I see my car as Im on the phone with him pulling away. His company phone ********** mute the sound so I cant hear & was like oh! There was a mishap (still playing delusional) like b**** just give me the number and location to the car so I can pick it up ! At this point youre wasting time LYING about having my car in your possession.Initial Complaint

Parked on gravel by Kanna where other cars are parked late night to go to the store. As I get out there is a tow truck towing a vehicle in the parking lot as I walk by the tow truck driver and the car owner. 5 mins after walking in the store, the owner of the car getting towed, came in the store and got my attention about my car being possibly being towed. He stated hed paid the tow truck driver $250 to drop his truck and tow driver turn around and automatically picked up my car instead. I hurried to walk outside to go see what was going on, the tow driver had already hooked my car and pulled it down the street on the side of the road. As I walked to the tow truck driver I asked him, as he saw me walk in the store, he said nothing to me as he was towing the other car and mentioned its my job to pick up any cars in the parking lot that dont have a permit to park on the gravel. He mentioned a tow sign which is not easily seen as I didnt pass the sign to see it where its posted when I walked in the store. He mentioned if he reported the car and towed it would be $375 to get it from the tow yard but if I paid him cash $300 he would drop my car. I asked him why he didnt say anything when he saw me get out my car as there was no call to pick up my car but he looked to see if there was a permit and just picked my car up. He knew what he was doing and targeted anyone in the parking lot, doesnt report it and is collecting the cash to drop the car as its not going to the company if they dont know anything about the cars hes targeting and keeping the money for himself. He rushed me to pay him the $300 cash and then indicated hed gotten another call to pick another car and didnt want to miss his money. After he was paid, I got no receipt and he attempted to try and pull off with my car not all the way being down and I panic. He let it down then proceeded to the other car in the same parking lot as he called me derogatory names and slurs. I desire restitution.Initial Complaint

This is specifically regarding the damage to my vehicle from the towing of my vehicle on Friday, October 20, 2023 from the *************** location at ************************************************************************************* by Justt Towing & Recovery. We are pursuing the cost of repairing our vehicle under the ************** General Statutes Chapter 20. Motor Vehicles 20-219.2 section regarding negligence based on testimonial evidence received the night of the incident from the towing company. As per the towing truck operator statement regarding my vehicle was a little harder to get out since it was front wheel drive points to the fact that the damage to the front wheels/axle was due to negligence by the tow truck operator since now there is now an issue with our wheels when we turn our steering wheel that was not present prior to the towing. Our vehicle is currently in the repair shop with the ***** dealership as we had to take it in to the dealership due to the issues with turning the wheels. Due to the circumstances, I have uploaded a supporting document to explain in detail the complaint. I am requesting $3,000 that represents the estimated cost to repair my vehicle of $2,550 and the $450 towing fee due to negligence by the towing operator and the unlawful towing practices employed by Justt Towing & Recovery. An additional amount (if necessary) will be submitted once we hear back from the ***** dealership regarding the total cost of the repairs that will be needed. The complete details of the situation are detailed in the attached document.Initial Complaint

Event occurred today I was making an Uber Eats delivery from a business.Had flashers on.ran in for literally 2 minutes to grab an order and was pounced on by this tow company.Driver rudely demanded I give him $300 cash or pay more at tow yard.total rude extortion to someone working to barely make a living.I'm new to area as evidenced by ******* plates and this occurs.Driver and follow-up call to the manager in an attempt to reasonably resolve were pointless. This felt like a total trap, let alone was angry at me and gleeful over the processInitial Complaint
