On 2/14/2022, I entered into a construction contract worth $12,000.00 to refurbish our master bathroom. Under the contract he would provide all the material and labor for that price. I provided a down payment of $6,000.00 via FourSquare.com on 2/14/2022. I requested that no demolition begin until the flooring tile was ordered. However, Mr. ***** insisted that the demolition get started on the soaking tub and other fixtures in the room. I allowed Mr. ***** to begin the demo and he requested an additional $1,500.00. Provided the $1,500.00 on 3/14/2022. Talking with ****** *** of New Bern, no title or any material was ever ordered by Mr. *****. Other than the demolition, he provided a less than $200.00 toilet. On 3/24/2022 I informed Mr. ***** that I was not happy about the progress and that I knew no material had been ordered. On 3/30/2022 I told Mr. ***** I'd finalized the tile order and was waiting for him to make the deposit for the material. After that several excuses of not being able to get the debris out of our garage, on 4/20/2022 Mr. ***** finally came to get the debris out of the garage, and I informed him at that moment he was fired. I also informed him that he owed us $5,000.00. I agreed to pay for the demolition and toilet but that was it. Mr. ***** provided me a post dated check #1004 for May 15, 2022 for $5,000.00. On 5/16/2022 I presented the check to ********** ******** **** and was informed there was not enough funds to cover the check. To date, I've not been able to cash that check. On 6/27/2022 I sent him a text stating I wanted the entire about by 7/1/2022. He stated he would "personally hand you $2,500 on July 9th and another $2500 two weeks after. I will not let you down." I allowed the extra time as he requested. As of today, 7/9/2022 I've not been able to contact Mr. ***** as it appears he has my cell number blocked. Your assistance in recovering this $5,000.00 would be greatly appreciated. I will file charges if necessary!
