1 starRented a home ******** *** for week of Christmas. Chose this home for the location and size. Arrived to a home that needed a deep clean and was overall a disappointment. Yes, the pool was closed but we weren't expecting it to be a marshy pit of trash and chair cushions that we would have to look at all week. Dust was everywhere, mold all in the shower and on air vents. Uneven boards on pool deck almost caused one of us to fall into the marsh pool. They offered to send a cleaning crew, however who wants a crew of people in the house while your family is there .... When the house should have already been cleaned... I asked for some sort of refund as this home was almost $**, the owner refused and resort realty only offered a $*** gift certificate. No thanks , we won't use you again...and don't suggest anyone else does eitherReview fromMelissa C

1 starOur stay at ***** ***** ****** was a nightmare. On day 1, we had 6 kids (18 mo- 13) playing in the pool. The kids mentioned that the pool water smelled and tasted funny. Not even 30 minutes later, all 6 children were screaming in pain, claiming their skin felt like it was on fire. Two families, meeting up from different states, shared the house. We called the emergency line to report the pool issue. By 9 am, we still hadn't heard back. Multiple children were up all night, screaming in pain with swollen and red genitals from skin irritation caused by the pool. Despite repeated calls, we didn't get a visit from the pool vendor until 5 pm, well over 24 hours after we checked in. This delay seemed highly suspect, as any added pool chemicals would be negligible by the time they tested the water. When the property manager finally called - 6 pm, they told us the pool vendor found nothing wrong, dismissing any fault. Our children were in severe pain the entire day. Their suffering continued throughout the week with persistent skin rashes, irritation, swelling, and redness. To make matters worse, the listing information for the rental was inaccurate. Nowhere did it mention that the mother-in-law suite is completely detached from the main house. Additionally, the listing claimed that every room had a tub in the bathroom, but in reality, only one bathroom had a tub. We were unsupported by Resort Realty and property owner. We asked for a modest $***** refund, considering the higher cost of rentals with a pool. After leaving, we were offered only $**** with denying any fault. Resort Realty’s contract states they provide no refunds under any circumstance. We strongly advise against Resort Realty and this particular house and owner. Besides the pool issue and inaccurate listing, the house was filthy—floors were dirty, lamps were dusty, the couch was stained, and many lightbulbs were broken or missing. Avoid this rental and company at all costs.Review fromTimothy P

2 starsWe stayed in Tranquility (****** in Corolla. When we arrived, we were overall pleased with the house. The house was relatively clean (other than the area around the pool deck). Many of the features of the house were rather dated and the sofa was worn out. According to the guest book, a group of high schoolers who stayed there in early June for Senior Week broke the zipper on one of the couch cushions. The cover kept coming off. Unfortunately, as the week went on several members of my family began to experience respiratory issues. My daughter-in-law initially became the most ill and went to urgent care at the beach. The doctor told her that more-than-likely the issue was mold in the rental house. My son and grandson suffered sore throats and congestion when in the house. By the end of the week, my wife, an asthmatic, began to feel the effects as well. I contacted the property manager and explained the situation. I told her that we had found examples of mold in the ceilings and in the exhaust fans in the bathrooms. The property manager called and left me a message saying that they sent a guy out to examine the house, and he found nothing. She suggested that the issue might be the "ocean mist" in the air. Really??? Quite insulting. We have pictures of the mold. Since we returned home both my son and wife have gone to the doctor. My wife's pulmonologist told her that she had rattling in her lung that wasn't there before we arrived in Corolla. When my son told his doctor that he began getting sick at the beach and that his symptoms were worse when in the house, she told him that the issue was mold. Now, we understand that many of the houses at the beach probably have mold. We have been coming to the Outer Banks for 38 years. While some of the houses we rented may have had mold, NONE of those houses made two-thirds of our family sick. To be summarily dismissed by the rental agency the way we were was quite insulting. We will not rent from Resort Realty again.Review fromKevin M

1 starWe reserved a beach house at *** *** ********* ****** *** * ** ******** ***** ********* ****** The sheets were not changed from previous occupants, food wrappers, sand, & human hair were found in the sheets. Trash swept under the bed. The hot tub needed servicing for 2 days before use, the private swimming pool required 3 visits from a caretaker due to a faulty pump. It was disgusting. We saved for our family of 13 to vacation, & it was ruined. Resort Realty was called, & offered no assistance. Ants all over the kitchen, the toilets wouldn't flush, I sincerely think there should be some type of partial refund being unable to use the amenities until day 3 of a 7 day vacation. Extremely disappointed. Most likely will not return to Outer Banks, & this was our first trip. I would be afraid of finding these conditions in any house,we'd rent.Review fromPeter C

1 starWe stayed at Brown ************ from 9/3/XXXX-X/10/2022. The house was in horrible condition and should be rented out to anyone until the issues we brought up with Resort Realty have been addressed. All of the issues, including photos were submitted to Resort Realty on Sunday 9/4. First, nothing was clean. There is black dust/gunk all around every single air vent. The ceiling fans are all covered in dust. The was some kind of stain on the bed spread for the top floor king bed room. Cheerios were left all over the back decks. The second floor jacuzzi tub was clogged and full of sand. The top floor bathroom smelled like urine the entire week. The shower door in top floor bathroom is rusted and covered in soap scale. All of the could have been remedied by a good cleaning. Second are mechanical issues, the pool light did not work, only half of the jets in the hot tub worked, two toilet paper holders were missing the rods or were broken. The largest and worst issue is the mold. The cathedral ceiling in the basement rec room leading to the second floor entry was covered in MOLD. Not just a spot or two. The entire ceiling was covered which means it did not happen over night. Overall it seems like the property manager and owners do not care about the state of their property. We did report all of this to the office. Alyssa was very apologetic and said she would have the property manager call us the same day. We finally heard from, Amy via voicemail on Thursday 9/8. We called back four times with no call back from Amy. A repairman, Marcus, was out to us within an hour. Marcus was great, coming back to fix as many small issues he could. Some cleaners showed to do a little sprucing up. It seemed like they were there to just put a bandaid on the situation. This property should never have been rented in the condition we found it.Review fromLaurie D

1 starOn 8/6/2021 we arrived at ******** managed by Resort Realty, with an understanding that the home we rented would have the amenities we paid for & be in a working/clean order. This year was particularly significant as it was the first OBX vacation since our husband/dad's death in 2021. It was already an emotional time for us then to enter Options & find the awful condition and disrepair of the home made things worse. We encountered: 1. Glass shattered on steps coming up from garage from the light fixture above the steps. 2.Nonfunctional Central A/C & window units taped in place & screens strewn throughout. Our lease indicated there would be central air and a functioning dishwasher. 3. Broken dishwasher with 3 inches of standing, murky water in the bottom again no prior communication and an old note taped to the door stating "DO NOT USE, REPLACEMENT COMING" without any date of replacement. We cook a lot during our vacations & this made significant extra work. 4. Banging throughout night from a large piece of roof flashing/gutter that is hanging from the second floor roof exposing it to rain and causing inside dampness. 5. Bathrooms unclean and in disrepair towel bar falling loose from the wall and unable to hang up a towel. Shower in 2nd floor bathroom didn't drain. Toilet didn't refill with water. Old soap left from previous guest in shower. Beard hair left in shower and bathroom sink. Hair and mold in bathrooms. 6. Sliding glass door frame rusted & dislodges from frame, difficult to open. Screen door banging & off it's hinges 6. Concrete driveway construction occurring without our knowledge & our vehicles were blocked for two days.7. TOE NAILS on the bed & wooden ledge of the master bedroom, dust /dirt throughout the rooms & on all the ceiling fan blades.Blood like fluid on the wall 9.Refrigerator shelf taped together with duct tape inside, not secure. 2. Condescending communication from Resort Realty p

1 starImportant safety concerns
Rented the *** **** house. It seems that the property may be undergoing renovations, yet is still being rented out before it should as there are some important safety concerns that should be addressed.
Maintenance: The property came with an outside "kitchen" (covered sink, grill, mini-fridge), but the receptacles did not function as the GFCI receptacle "upstream" could not be reset (possibly a faulty receptacle), but if not an issue with the receptacle, it could indicate a larger electrical issue. Potentially not safe. We called for maintenance on 7/17 and again on 7/18 to address the issue, but no one ever showed up to fix the issue even though they said they would be there that day.
Hazards from poor renovations: The stair nosing used for the laminate flooring has been installed in a way that creates, in some spots, greater than a half inch differential between the nose and the tread. While the raised nosing on the stairs may not "technically" be against code? (it seems building code may be uncharacteristically vague on stair treads?still worth a call to the local office), any good inspector will identify that as a serious tripping hazard (we tripped on it several times coming down the flights of stairs). This should be dealt with before someone has a serious fall. Additionally, the points where the handrails on the stairs return to the wall are not properly fastened and come loose with minimal, light use. Again, a hazard.
The bathroom of the master bedroom on the south side of the house had water pouring in when it rained the drywall seam against the exterior wall was torn apart. Given that lack of response to the electrical issue, we decided it was not worth it to report the leaking ceiling and just deal with the extra waterfall.
We were upset with the condition of the home and the hazards, especially compared to what was advertised and what a reasonable person would expect.Review fromS. C.

1 starI have rented from the outer banks for over 20 years. This place The ***** in the worse condition. Some of the items are listed below.
The list of items included:
1. Rental living room chairs with cardboard cut -out as coasters.
2. Pool Chairs that were left under deck broken when we arrived. Only 3 chairs around the pool.
3. Door to bedroom facing the ocean is completely broken. The maintenance man arrived and said the whole door needed replacement.
4. Door knob on middle bedroom door was reversed which enabled people to get locked in. A serious fire hazard.
5. Bathroom Door knob in another bedroom kept locking so people were getting locked out of bathroom. I had to take the lock/**** off.
6. Rusted pool door hinges. Total Neglect.
7. Kitchen faucet leaking.
8. Freezer needs service. We lost some ice cream and meat for a meal because it did not stay frozen.
9. Pool Deck paint (3photos in another email). We had children swimming in pool.
10. Hole in ceiling and in wall of one bedroom.
11. Paint on trim and on outside of house. Total neglect.
12. Small table around pool that was filthy and disgusting.
13. TV wires totally jumbled. Neglect.
14. Master bedroom upstairs on the right has a shower not working.
The owner is a ****** ******* The rental company does not back up what they advertise and take no responsibility.
When you spend over *** to go on vacation you don't expect to spend a lot of time listening to others you are staying with about what is broken.
The rental company representatives know this place is not worth the money and have stated this to me. They continue to list it.
