    Billing Issues

On November 1, 2022 I sent a letter for corrective billing action to both ***** E*******, CEO and Dr J****** principals at Wilmington Eye. To date, neither individual has had the courtesy to respond. On September 13, 2022 I was scheduled for and saw Dr J******. Upon departure I was confronted by a receptionist that "Your balance due today is $60 since Medicare doesn't pay for the refraction procedure". Previously I expressed that my visits were not to be billed to Medicare but rather the VA and should there was any issue to please notify me immediately and I will fix it. I did not receive any phone call or other message concerning any issue. Later, only the charge was removed. The fundamental issue now arises that without my approval and in fact my specific verbal objection, Wilmington Eye continued forward to charge my Medicare/Blue Cross account. It was understood AFTER the visit that Intra Costal Eye was acquired by Wilmington Eye. The VA had explained that the change for billing authorization was incumbent upon Wilmington Eye to contact the VA and, since I was not a party to the acquisition of the two companies, I would have NO responsibility. I was told if Wilmington Eye had simply reached out to the VA the issue would have been resolved in "TWO CLICKS". Further, the importance of the VA being able to take part in the approved billing is such that the VA's operating budget is based on collecting any 20% co-pay from the veteran's supplemental insurance which in this case was denied to them. Note - Georgian informed me NUMEROUS times she was unable to obtain the records from Intra Coastal for verification. That was most interesting and what I felt was a dishonest assertion in an effort to dissuade me from further questioning. Their actions resulted in the VA to be eliminated from collecting legally appropriate funds for the health care services they provide me. The billing error must be corrected, Medicare refunded and the VA billed.

The billing for Wilmington Eye Associates is the absolute worse! On my initial visit in Dec 2022, I presented 3 insurances of which everyone knows Medicare is billed first. I had to contact Wilmington Eye to do so after Federal BCBS denied it until Medicare was billed. I was billed separately $60 for a test to determine if I needed prescription eye wear and have never been billed separately for it in 20 years. It has always been a part of my yearly exam. When I questioned the fee, Billing told me it was for the technician. Although I signed the paper, they should have asked for the $60 up front which would have alerted me not to use this practice. I see that people have written reviews about the $60 fee. April/Billing said, "Well if you don't pay it, we will just send it to Collections." She also refused to re-code it. Additionally, my initial visit took 3 hours!!!!! If I could rate them ZERO, I would.
