Approximately in February 2024, BHI started the finish work on our Pinecrest home. As they built the fireplace mantle and stained it, I immediately saw that there were staple marks approximately every 2 inches top to bottom of the front of the mantle. I stressed my concerns immediately and was told over and over that they would fix it. I met with the superintendent from Omaha from BHI and **** ****** relator on 5-16-2024 and was told by the superintendent several different things. One, we could put a shellack over the mantle to try to cover the staple marks but he said that would probably make it worse. Option 2 was to paint it. I asked what else could be done, because all the railings on the staircase were stained and wouldn't match. His remark was there is nothing wrong with the stain, and the staple look gives it "character", which was quite upsetting to me. I have never heard anyone say that seeing staples every 2 -3 inches in the front of a mantle gives it character. At this time I voiced my disappointment and stressed that we needed to find a solution. At that point the superintendent told me that I needed to build the next step up home that would be of better quality of mantle that wouldn't show staples, which was quite upsetting because I was spending $640,000 + already. Then he stressed again they use staples in the Meridian floor plan and that's how it is. At that point I said, "I will pay for it, just fix it". He replied, "No". I viewed a new build that had the Meridian floor plan before we started our build, yesterday I went to the home, I introduced myself, the owner invited me in to view his mantle. The exact same home, his mantle was done correctly with pin nails, no staples. I offered twice to pay for it. Now knowing they were not truthful, we have 2 homes exactly the same, one done right, and mine done wrong. The main focal point of the great room is the fireplace. The owner of the other Meridian home is willing to let you come in and see his.
