Please – save your money. We enrolled in Physician Mutual’s dental coverage in March 2020 with the understanding that it would provide assistance for my husband’s necessary dental work. We waited the required two years before filing any claims, and during the insured period from 3/14/2020 to 7/24/2024, we paid a total of $2,590.75 in premiums. Additionally, we voluntarily increased our premiums twice to "increase benefits" as we expected more comprehensive coverage. Beginning in October of 2023, my husband then began extensive dental work to extract his remaining teeth (eight) with an oral surgeon and get fitted for dentures (with our regular dentist). Then, on the advice of our dentist, he underwent two implants (with the oral surgeon) in order to further secure the lower plate. The total cost of these procedures exceeded $13,300. We anticipated that the company would help cover a portion of these expenses, but to our disappointment, we received only $1,804.50 in benefits. Then, in December 2024, we were informed by the company that they had made an “overpayment” of $881.00 and demanded its return. While we understand this may be technically within their legal rights, it is deeply frustrating and unjust that we are left paying over $1,600 for coverage that, in the end, provided us with very little support. If I could have given them LESS than one star I would have.Physicians Mutual Insurance Company

Thank you for your feedback. Given our proven track record of timely claim processing, we would like to better understand what happened. If claim information is mailed to an incorrect address, this delays the claim processing and makes it more difficult to determine the claim’s status. Please give us a call as we want to prevent this from occurring again.Review fromDawn H

Dental coverage can be canceled by the policyowner at any time. Although we require a signed note to cancel a policy, a policyowner can stop automatic bank withdrawals by simply contacting us. We will gladly review our records if you submitted a signed note to cancel coverage. Based on the date of the signed cancellation, we will refund any unearned premiums. Please call us as we do not yet have sufficient information to locate coverage.Review fromBill M

We had Physicians Mutual for a few years. Coverage was decent. Our new insurance covers dental, so we gave two months notice before the end of the year. They still debited two more times for about, $184.00. After calling them, and admitting we gave proper notice, and they made the error, they refuse to credit our account. Horrible, awful and disgusting behavior. PLEASE! DO NOT USE THEM.Physicians Mutual Insurance Company

Our 95% Customer Satisfaction rating has been earned by taking care of our customers. We’d be glad to look into the matter you described. Our policyowners can call our customer service team and request that their policies be removed from automatic payments, which prevents future withdrawals. To cancel, we require a signed note. We look forward to your call to review this matter with you.Review fromBarb A

After spending 30 minutes with an agent filling out a Medicare Supplement, being told how great the Physicians Mutual Company is, and being excited about the premium quoted, my application was denied after asking health questions. Rules are Rules so I understand that this may happen. However, it is NOT okay to deny someone medical coverage and NOT tell them the reasons for the denial. Actually there was a way to get an anwer: complete the application and give them my BANKING information! WHAT???Physicians Mutual Insurance Company

Thank you for considering Physicians Mutual for your insurance needs. For privacy reasons, we cannot fully discuss your experience in this reply. However, we can share that our Underwriting Department can provide any applicant an explanation for denied coverage. During the circumstances you described, the application had not yet been submitted to Underwriting. In fact, fully completed applications always receive a confirmation of coverage or an explanation for denial. Please give us a call if you have additional questions.Review fromJanet W

I asked for my insurance policy to be terminated for the cash value of $818. I tried several times to do so. I am disabled and almost 70 years old. I was sent another letter saying that they needed my signature to do so. I sent it to you. Your next response was it did not match my signature on file. You then changed my policy to a term policy because I could no longer pay for it. And I was told you were going to use the cash value until it was gone to pay the premiums even tho I asked for it to be cancelled. I was treated rudely. I have another life ins policy with another co and do not need this one. I was told I could cash it out for the $818. I tried to do that. Then my policy was changed to a term policy and told you were going to use the $818 to pay on it until 2029 when the $818 was used up..This is how you treat your disabled customers. I have never been questioned about my signature before in my life. My signature is my signature. It may have changed a little thru the years, but I am quite sure it was still readable. I am letting everyone in my family know about how I have been treated in Physicians Mutual Co. I have tried to cancel this ins, and you will not let me and are using the cash value until it is gone. I do not believe this is good business practices.i asked you to cancel policy and send me the $818 cash value. You now say it is a term policy and I can not cancel it. This is how you do business? I see others have same complaints.Physicians Mutual Insurance Company

I have called twice to this company to cancel my policy. They will not refund my August payment. They told me that unless I send them a cancelation letter that I will continue to receive a monthly bill and my payment due will continue to accumulate. I don't trust this company enough to send a letter not even a certified one. I have never come across a company that asks so much and puts out nothing. I would lie a refund for August 2024 and for them to not harrass me by sending out more bills.Physicians Mutual Insurance Company

For our customers’ protection, we do require a signature to cancel most insurance policies. This prevents unintentional loss of coverage. However, we will gladly stop any automatic payments if a customer simply calls us and asks they be stopped. For regulatory reasons, we send a bill on a policy that is past due, but a customer can ignore the billing reminder if he or she is not interested in continuing coverage or sending a cancellation note. Once the final billing notice is sent, billing notices will discontinue as well. Physicians Mutual refunds all unearned premiums on canceled policies. If you have questions about your specific policy, please give us a call.Review fromBrian M

Poor customer service. They do not send customers an explanation of benefits after work is done. You can telephone them and they will tell you verbally what was paid and what you still owe but no details of how those figures were arrived at. Pleasantly apologetic on telephone with a sort of "that's the way it is" attitude.Physicians Mutual Insurance Company

Be aware of th Premium dental policy plan from Physicians Mutual Insurance. They advertise "no deductibles, co-pays, or limits", but if you request a copy of their coverages in this plan they are atrocious. As an example, they will cover 100% of basic cleanings, but will only pay about $53.00 for a filling that can cost (in my area) $160 to $300,and $95 for a crown that costs about $1500, So, for approximately $600 in premiums you would receive about $148 to pay for procedures that cost about $1700. Furthermore, there is a 1 year waiting period for anything other that basic cleanings, and if you attempt to apply for their premium package, which will pay up to 70% of the procedural costs listed above, you will incur another 1 year waiting period. This company should be more upfront about what they cover in their premium plan.Physicians Mutual Insurance Company
