In Jan of 2018, Octagon performed services in my home attic to remediate mold apparently caused by excess moisture from the bathroom vents being ducted into the soffits. As part of this work, they redirected the 2 bathroom vents from the soffits to the gable end of the house above our master bath. Fast forward to this year, we started smelling a musty odor in the bathroom. I removed the sheetrock and insulation to find wet insulation and mold on the inside of the wall sheathing. I contacted Octagon to help identify the problem as it was evident that the location of the most mold and moisture was directly below where the new bathroom vents were installed. They came back with a quote to remediate the mold but had no real explanation about what caused the problem. I contacted another contractor who discovered that they bathroom vents that Octagon installed were installed without any use of sealant and water was allowed to access behind the vents and get inside my walls. When I contact Octagon about this issue their reply was.. "After speaking with my other project managers and our operations manager I was advised that we do not use sealant or caulking with these installations as they sit flush to the siding and the cause of this issue is likely due to the siding itself. It is not uncommon for some light mold growth to occur between the house wrap and the exterior sheathing. With the original completion date of 1/17/2018, we are outside the 5 year warranty period." - Tyler M****/Project Mgr. Not only do I think that Octagon should pay for the cost of my repairs but also have concerns about the many customers they have serviced who may also have this same issue. $1250 invoice was to replace the bathroom vents and insulation. I did all the sheetrock and painting - easily worth another $500 in materials and time.
