Brought my car here for a vehicle inspection and the guy listed multiple things wrong with my vehicle that didn't pass inspection that aren't even things that he can fail my vehicle for. My car is over 25 years old and doesn't require an emissions test nor does it have a check engine light on but he failed me for my exhaust pipe having a minor leak. He also told me that a valve cover was leaking oil and claimed that fails it because it's a "fire hazard" which also isn't true because an engine only regularly heats to an average of 220-240 degrees (maybe 250 on a hot summer day) and the flash point of most oil is 380 degrees so even if the engine was overheating and about to explode- it would never hit 380 degrees. These dudes just wanted to scam me to make more money off of me in repair costs which didn't happen because I do my own repairs or have a family member who has been a mechanic at a MA state inspection station for 40 years do my repairs. Finally, this mechanic also told me that one of my inner tie rods was spent but the 2nd mechanic who inspected the vehicle said both tie rods were in good condition and did not require repair. Maybe because I'm a woman they thought I would be oblivious to these lies but because I come from a family of mechanics, I took my vehicle to another mechanic who gave me an honest 2nd opinion and who repaired the minor issues it did have and let me know that whichever inspection station i took my car to initially was blowing smoke up my rump and that I should not bring my car back there to get reinspected and should just swallow the $50 they took from me because they will likely continue finding reasons not to pass me. I ended up bringing the vehicle to a different inspection station and having it pass with only a couple very minor repairs and the things listed above not being addressed.
