    I registered for an event called the T Mobile New England Dog Jog 5K, paying a 35 dollar registration fee. I received an email from Jake D****, that event organizer, stating that medals and tee shirts had not come in and stating that registrants could either receive their shirts and medals by mail later or defer to the spring event. I deferred. I received no information about the spring event and so reached out. Jake told me there would not be a spring event and that the event was now going to be held in October if this year. I received no further information and so reached out again. I got no response and Jake then dried his email.

    First off this is a small charity 5k that donates all the proceeds from the event to animal rescue charities. We did have a fall event where a medal manufacturer had an error with the order and medals weren’t delivered in time for the event. It was an issue totally beyond our control. However everything else was presented, the event was held, shirts were distributed, vendors showed up, and so did the runners.

    It was out of generosity we asked all runners if the medals weren’t distributed we would let them defer to our next event. The City of Nashua had huge turnover within their parks and rec department which caused a delay of the spring race. We were then slated for. 10/01 race, but the title sponsor asked us to move the date. I’m a guy who runs a small charity race - I have reached out to the complainant in separate emails, however my Unleashed account (created to email runners) was shut off to save money since I pay for all race expenses out of my personal pocket. The complaintant was one of 3 people (out of 400+) to choose to defer simply because the medals were going to be shipped instead of awarded at the finish. None of the other runners cared as they received everything promised at registration. I’m happy to Venmo her the $35 if that will make her happy. This isn’t a BBB or FTC issue as I’m a guy who runs a small charity 5k annually.

    I do not accept the business's response as a resolution to my complaint because:

     Jake's response is completely unprofessional and untrue. He made no effort to communicate regarding the event that was never rescheduled. His response attempts to shift blame to the consumer - me - even. Taking a fee and not providing a service is a SCAM. And it most certainly is a matter for the BBB and the FTC. 

     Jake did finally refund my race entry fee after I had to reach out to the BBB because he closed his business email address down.
