I have a leased vehicle that I want to purchase, 2018 Nissan Rogue 2400 miles. My Rogue was just inspected in August. When I called Peters Nissan in Nashua, I was told that I needed to have a vehicle inspection for $99. I asked why, They said that they do the inspection so they know what the are getting. I eplained that I'm paying it off and taking it with me. They said that they are doing the inspection because they need to issue temp plates. I said that I don't need temp plates as I already have plates. This kept going round and round. The man I spoke with was sighing and getting irritated with me. I couldn't get anywhere with him. I found the following on Nissan's website, ""Do I Need to Schedule an Inspection If I Purchase My Leased Vehicle? If you decide to purchase your leased vehicle, you do not need to schedule an inspection. We are sorry about the confusion with what the Nissan website has written about inspections on Lease Buy Outs. When you bring your lease back into the dealer to purchase it which is required because only a dealer can handle the transaction. The vehicle is paid off by the dealer and the vehicle is re titled in to the owners name. The title originally would have the lease company as the owner. When this is done the vehicle has to be re registered and inspected as we are actually re selling the customer their car. In order for us to be able to let the customer drive off the lot the vehicle has to have a state inspection. It does not matter if the vehicle was just inspected previously under the old registration. This is necessary and needs to be done will all lease buy outs. The reason for the temporary plate is that the vehicle title and registration has now changed and this is just like buying a used car from a dealer. If the vehicle was not re inspected it would be sold as is and as shown and the vehicle would then need to be towed off the lot. I hope this explanation clarifies things for you and we apologize for any confusion.
