    SUMMARY:The complainants ***************************************************************** had a shower remodel done from Blue Star Contracting, ********************************************************************. and represented by ******************* The shower leaked on first use on 10th May 2023 because of improper plumbing. The water leakage caused damage in the range of $7500 - $12000 (We are still waiting for the final estimates from the insurance company).***** Air, the plumbing company hired to fix the leakages clearly state faulty plumbing in their invoices (Attachment/Supporting Document: *****Air-Bill-01 & *****Air-Bill-02).A police report was filed with ********************************* on 05/12/2023; the incident number is ******** / 01 (attachment/Supporting *********************************** claim was filed on 13th May 2023 with GEICO ************************************ ********************** policies are placed through GEICO with ******************** the claim # is ************* (Attachment/Supporting Document: InsuranceLetter)The contractor showed poor worksmanship (Attachment/Supporting Document: Pictures-showerHandle-Niche), leading to oprotruding sharp corners in the Niche causing a safety hazard.oChipped tiles & displaced holes In spite of our asking multiple times, ******************** refused to give is any agreement of work or a final invoice. All correspondence with him was done over chat, snapshots of which are attached. (Attachment/Supporting Documents: Chat-Agreement, Chat-FInalWork, Chat-Payments, Chat-ReportingLeakage)No permit was applied for plumbing with the township; BlueStar contracting said its only required if making *********************** changes.No water tests were done on the shower enclosure; there is a chance water proofing is not up to mark. COMPENSATION ASKED FOR ($8400)Insurance deductible of $1000 Plumbing fixes done by ***** Air for $334.27; (Attachment/Supporting Document: *****Air-Bill-01 & *****Air-Bill-02).Rework on ************** walls ***************** cost paid to BlueStar Contracting: $4700 (Attachment/Supporting Document: ZellePayments)oMaterial Cost (tiles / niche) purchased by the complainants: $865.68 (Attachment/Supporting Document: ReceiptsForTiles) oPotential increase in insurance premiums over the next five years: $1500 DETAILED DESCRIPTION On 07th April 2023, an agreement was entered between ***************************** and ******************************* (the complainants) and ******************** of Blue Star Contracting, Address: ******************************************************************** to renovate our bathroom, which included.Removal of the Tub Installing the Kerdi Shower system and shower floor Remove Existing shower and install new shower body Remove tiles and install new tiles, also install shower floor Add a niche The work was supposed to be completed at a cost of $3500 plus an additional $200 for installing the Niche. Per the agreement, Except for the Kerdi Shower system, all material were to be provided by the Complainants **************************************************************** BlueStar Contracting/******************* was paid an additional $1000 to procure materials Tiles & related stuff was procured by the complainants When the Complainants asked ******************* to sign an agreement, he refused and stated h*** be giving the final invoice with details on the work done & a guarantee on it.The payments were made via money transfer Application Zelle on the following dates.$2000 paid on 11th April 2023 towards initial payment & material cost $750 paid on 12th April 2023 towards initial payment & material cost $1950 paid on 20th April 2023 towards final payment.The work was started on 13th April 2023 and the tiling work completed on 20th April. The shower door was yet to be installed, after which he had to do his final set of caulking and water proofing, till then the shower was not supposed to be used.******************* showed up for final caulking on 9th May 2023. There were a lot of issues with his work, including safety hazard & poor workmanship as listed below. ******************* refused to fix these.The faulty install of the Niche, with the sharp corners of the **Shaped Aluminum protruding out of the wall. This was also pointed out as a safety hazard The sealant around the niche is bleeding till date since ******************* refused to seal it with a top coat. Upon consultation with multiple other contractors , this will lead to water seepage through the shower and should be a re-done Displaced holes in the Shower tiles, which shows up clearly on the wall.He did not seal coat the tiles, stating that its not required (we checked with other contractors, the mentioned sealing the tiles is a mandatory exercise)Misalignment of the fittings & the **trims, these are not horizontal.When asked to give us a final invoice & guarantee on his work, to which ******************* refused. We first used the shower on 10th May 2023 (gave 24 hours for the caulking to dry up) & the water started leaking and seeping into the bedroom below the shower via the electrical outlet/lights in the room. The bedroom is occupied by my 79-year-old mother. She was sleeping at that time & this posed as a major safety hazard for her.The Leakage was reported to ******************* on 10th May 2023 (Wednesday), he refused to come have a look at it till the weekend. Upon our insistence & some heated arguments, he agreed to have a look at it on 12th May 2023. On his visit on 12th May 2023, ******************* refused to acknowledge any issues with his plumbing/workmanship leading to a heated argument between him and the complainants, after which he walked out without making any repairs.On 12th May 2023, we hired the services of ***** Air, ********** to fix the leakage; on their invoice they mentioned the sharkbite fitting was not properly installed.A second leakage was detected & fixed by ***** Air on 16th May 2023, ***** Air, **********. They identified a 2nd place where the crimp ring was not crimped. The source of leakage has been mentioned on their 2nd invoice.A police report was filed with the ********************************* against the contractor on 12th May 2023.
