    I hired CJL Landscaping Design & Construction in February 2022 to build retaining walls on my backyard. The agreed total was $30,000. I paid $9,500 upfront for the materials, which he said he needed to order in advance because of COVID. He started the work in November 2022 and built one of the two walls partially. Then he claimed that he ran out of materials and needed another $9,500 to order more. I trusted him and paid him the full amount. I have proof of all the payments. He never delivered the materials and stopped working on the project. He lied to me every time I called him and asked him why he was not making any progress. I finally gave him a week's notice to finish the job or leave. He never showed up and I had to fire him. I counted the materials that he used and found out that he owes me $14,500 worth of materials that he never bought. I also have to pay another $8,000 to hire someone else to finish the job, even though he already got paid the full amount. He is a thief and a cheat who should not be allowed to operate. He did a terrible job, stole my money, and left me with a disaster in my backyard in the middle of the summer without being able to even open my pool.
