They scam you out of money when they advise you to go to another company. They then say there is nothing we can do. They skyrocket your bill and make you pay 400+ a month to trap you or 180 for cancellation. I have contacted customer service seven times. They steal from you and act "untouchable." It's completely horrible how they treat reliable customers.NRG Energy, Inc.

In March of 2025, I received a letter in the mail from my energy company, Penelec (First Energy), stating that I had signed up with NRG Energy as my electric generation supplier. This was not the case - I never signed up with ***. I called the number for *** supplied in the letter from ******* and provided my service address. I was told this address was recently added as a new service address, however, the account was not in my name or anyone else's name in my household. I was actually given the person's name that the account was in, which I'm guessing the representative shouldn't have done, and it's nobody I've ever heard of. I explained that never signed up for this service and didn't want it. I was told there was nothing that *** could do and that I needed to call ******* to get it straightened out. I asked if I would be charged anything and the person would not answer that question, but instead continued to insist that I call Penelec. Not helpful. So I called Penelec and explained the situation and they reinstated my service. I thought that was the end of it. On my next bill from *******, there is a charge from *** which ******* says they cannot refund. So it all seems shady and underhanded to me. A company that I've never signed up with is getting money from me for services I never wanted or authorized. And it seems I have no recourse to get the charge removed as NRG won't work with me. I'm a working man and don't have the time to pursue this any further. I would just like to warn others about the experience I have had with this company.NRG Energy, Inc.

Complete theives. ******* **** didn't explain to me I had to call them before they jacked up my prices by 3x. Complete joke. I see why they hired young people to do this job. Scamming people during a recession. All this while oil prices are dropping. Unless I'm getting a refund check for the difference in my bill, go F yourselves NRG.NRG Energy, Inc.

Misleading and predatory business practices. Stay away! Offered a low introductory rate but then it quickly went to higher than I was paying, with no form of notification whatsoever. When called I was given a check for $125 for compensation, which did not come close to covering the hundreds of dollars extra I paid. Obviously, I should have paid more attention and done more due diligence, but still a despicable practice. hopefully my experience helps others.NRG Energy, Inc.

When you sign up they give you a pamphlet that you're supposed to sign and mail in if you wanna cancel the service before it starts. I called to complain that I had mailed in the pamphlet saying I don't want their service why am I still being signed up for it and they told me the only way to cancel is to call them lolNRG Energy, Inc.

My 97 year old father was approached at ******* & was asked a few questions including his zip code for which Energy supplier he utilized. Unbeknownst to him he was enrolled or opted-in for NRG Energy alternative supplier. I confirmed that this is how their sales persons are recruiting when I called directly. I find this an act of preying on vulnerable people during distracted grocery or household shopping! Disgusting!NRG Energy, Inc.

Our electric bill received a hike up from around $100 to $500. I couldnt pay that but still continued to pay what I could. I have paid since August of 2024 till today have paid over $1600 in 6 months and I still owe $500 all because of this stupid 3rd party agreement I signed 2 years ago. We saw a hike last year but not to this degree. I cant get out from under it. I am a full time teacher.NRG Energy, Inc.

Absolute scam. They ambushed my wife at ******* and offered a gift card in exchange for a Penelec account number. They then used the info to falsely claim I had chosen them as my electricity supplier. My wife isn't even on my Penelec account and they never contacted me at all. Fortunately ******* made it easy to cancel. 0 stars. would not recommend.NRG Energy, Inc.

I wouldnt wish this company on no one! There are like roaches in ******* trying to offer gift cards for adding them on ur PSEG bill. These people told me they would save me money on my bill and my bill went from ****** to over ****** a month. These people need to be sued for what they do to people. They are always in ******* soliciting their service and should be banned from being in ******* while people are shopping and trying to enjoy some peace from scammers. I cancelled my service and yet they are still on the bill for another 3 months. Please avoid this company at ALL COSTS! *** probably stands for *****************NRG Energy, Inc.
