This is a company that is always trying to grab customers at above market rates, and it seems like they use a couple tactics to do this depending on the energy market. A lot of people say that after either 3 or 6 months they crank up their rates, which I think is true when the market is flat. In my personal experience, they were selling when electric rates were about to drop, proportions a lower price that they knew that providers were going to lower even further than their "good" price.The good news is, their contract has no cancellation fee, I think legally required. I will be monitoring for any issues that come up while cancelling service, but overall, be weary whenever this company is trying to sell you on anything.NRG Energy, Inc. Response

They show up at ******* to try and convince you to sign up for their service without fully explaining it. The tactic they use is convincing you that you are being over charged for your electricity rates. This is almost never the case. I currently am charger $0.079 per kwh, while they were trying to charge me $0.12 per kwh. A substantial increase. All while forcing you to sign a non-arbitration to make sure you can't **** Then they have the audacity to tell you this service is free of charge to help you save money. My son in law worked for this company and I signed up to help him out. I got the.promised lower rate for 3 or 6 months and then the rate doubled. I was in hospital and unable to cancel or switch before the next month. Then it tripled. This company was charging three times the rate of the normal provider. Don't make my mistake. They later let my son in law go because he was naturally honest and was not meeting their quotas.NRG Energy, Inc. Response

Make sure and go to check the exact rates they are giving you! The representative at Wal-Mart looked up my electricity bill based on my information and then told me I would save 35% on my electricity delivery rate by switching and then increased it by 26% and I am now locked into a 24-month contract because I did not verify what he told me in the first three days. Their salespeople are fraudulent and will lie to your face! DO NOT TRUST THEM AND CHECK FOR YOURSELF. They should be getting a class-action lawsuit for this behavior!NRG Energy, Inc. Response

This company is a total scam. They told me I would not see an increase for a year. They offer gift cards at your local ******* to get you to sign up. Of course save money on your gas bill & get a gift card why not?? I will also be sending a complaint to ******* for allowing such a terrible company to have access to already low class people. Lets scam the already broke. Terrible. I never paid attention to the rate. Its not even been a full year & the rate went from $0.375 on 06/01/23 to $0.99 since 02/01/25. The ************ rate without a supplier right now in **** is $0.3274. I didnt do my research & was taken advantage of. I cant imagen the amount of elderly they scam. Pathetic company. I will make sure every employee I see that stands in ******* trying to make commission & taking advantage of people will hear from me. I will show them my bills if needed to prove my point. Terrible company, dont do business with them. Theyre basically taking food right out of our mouths just because they feel & want to. ***************NRG Energy, Inc. Response

My fianc was cornered by some of their canvassing staff in a ******** My fianc was unaware that we already had an energy provider and only gave them his email, phone ************ address. They told him in order to move forward in any aspect with their company, we would have to fill out the Enrollment Forms with the promise of a ******* Gift Card.He told me what happened, and I instructed him to not fill anything out, that I would be calling the next morning to ask that they put a stop to any further action regarding starting a contract with us. Thats what I did, and they said as long as we do not fill out the enrollment forms, they cannot move further with starting a contract and to disregard the forms.We did just that. He got an email the following week saying our enrollment was complete, even though we never filled anything out. I called NRG again, telling them I would like our information erased entirely as *** already explained the situation. They gave me a cancellation confirmation number (which was only 4 digits by the way), and said we were good and that we shouldnt get any more emails. Until we did, and I called NRG AGAIN. The man on the phone said our account was active, until I told him about how Ive called twice and demanded them to remove our info and cancel anything to do with us. He then tried to turn it around and say our account was actually NOT active. He refused to get a supervisor on the phone and promised we would no longer be receiving any more emails. Until we did, AGAIN saying our services have been confirmed and activated. This has now screwed up our contract with our original service provider, and NRG refuses to leave us alone, and cancel our contract THAT WE NEVER SIGNED.NRG Energy, Inc. Response

This company changed my electric supplier without my permission. I have been requesting this to be corrected for over 12 months. The name of the account with NRG was not even my name but in another's name. They are scamming individuals and doubling their electric bill. They finally cancelled me November 2023 after giving me 4 months of over $1K bills. F*** THIS COMPANY THAT IS A SCAM> Bait and Switch and they commit fraud. How do you put electric in the name of another individual and not the account holder at COMED> I WANT MY MONEY BACK!!!!!!!!!!!NRG Energy, Inc. Response

i was recently in ******** I was in the personal care section trying to find pads and feminine wash. Needless to say, i was very nervous about buying the right kind as i looked through the items. as i was looking at these pads a nrg representative approached me and started trying to sign me up. i was SOOO embarrassed. she could tell as soon as she looked at me but kept pushing to sign me up. After she finished, she then told me i couldn't get any gift cards for the promotion. I not only was very embarrassed at this point but i was so mad that she did that to me.NRG Energy, Inc. Response
