My Maytag washer froze up about 4 minutes into the Normal wash cycle on a Thursday. I found Edwards Appliance repair online. I spoke to a tech who seemed to know what he was talking about. Due to his and my time constrictions and my 9:30 AM appointment on Tuesday, we settled on a noon to 2:00 time slot. He called me at 7:45 AM and bullied me into coming about 8:10 AM. This was not convenient for me, but I realized he was already almost here. The tech opened the front of the washer and told me that the drain pump was frozen and it needed a new belt. He said he would call my home warranty company and that he would be back the next day at 8:00 AM. At 8:20 AM the next day, Wednesday, I called and left a message for him. When he returned the call, he denied saying he would definitely be back that day at that time. He then told me the home warranty company wouldnt give authorization until they researched wholesale prices for a new belt and drain pump because he (the tech) could only get the parts at retail. The home warranty company later told me the tech had never called. Before the tech had left my home, he ran a rinse cycle to show it was working and had me sign a work order and pay him $97.08. After he refused to speak to me any longer, after lying to me, I had to call another repair service. This person found the motor was loose on its platform, and the belt would not hold its tension. The Edwards Appliance Repair work order in very fine print in a faded color on yellow said I hereby accept the above performance and charges, as being satisfactory and acknowledge that equipment has been left in good working condition. I didnt see the faded fine print until after he left; and I had paid him $97.08. The machine was not in acceptable working order, and he even warned me it wouldnt work very long if it did at all, while he was telling me he would be back. I am a senior and living on a fixed income, and cannot afford to throw away almost $100. I feel this was fraud.
