According to Payless Car Rental Terms & Conditions, the business requires a $200 deposit when consumers use a credit card. However, the Terms & Conditions fail to inform consumers that there is an additional fee when using a debit card. Instead, this information is located on the business FAQ's (frequently asked questions) webpage at www.paylesscar.com/faq. As a result, many consumers do not discover the additional fee until they attempt to reserve a vehicle at the business location. At that time, the consumer must pay or cancel the reservation. If the consumer wishes to cancel at that time, the amount paid online becomes non-refundable as the Terms & Conditions state that any cancellations within less than 48 hours will result in a forfeit of prepaid fees. BBB files indicate that this business has a pattern of complaints concerning advertising, billing/collection issues, refund/exchange issues and sales practice issues. Complainants allege that the waiting time to reserve a rental car is an average of 1 to 1.5 hours. Complainants also allege that this company charges hidden fees without consumer knowledge and/or approval. BBB contacted Payless Car rental regarding complaint history concerns. The business did not respond.
