On 12/4/2021 we purchased a slab of granite, ****** ********** ****** as per our fabricator, Empire Granite’s recommendation. We went up to PMI in Albany to pick out the specific slab of our choice and paid a total of $4,300 for the slab, which included fabrication by Empire, Removal and cutouts for the sink and faucet. We were told by the salesperson, Peter, that the slab we picked out was guaranteed to be the slab that would be placed in our kitchen. We signed a contract to the effect stating that this was true. When the slab was installed by Empire, we did not receive the slab we had originally chosen. The piece is shedding and damaged and there is a large amount of grit coming off the island piece especially. The perimeter piece is definitely the piece we chose, but the island piece was swapped. It is inferior and is disintergrating. The entire surface is falling apart! We tried to reach out to the fabricator and he refuses to respond as to why this is happening, and we also reached out to Jeff at PMI and he reassured us that someone would come by to take a look at what has been happening. A representative named Laurie stopped by from the Corporate office of PMI, and told us that she doesnt see anything wrong with the piece, but it continues to shed grit everywhere and it is dangerous since we eat on the island and it is a place that we roll pizza and cookies on. PMI agreed to replace the island piece but our fabricator will not install the replacement piece at no charge since it is defective and PMI will not absorb the cost of removal and replacement. We are out of thousands of dollars and are forced to live with a defective, dangerous piece of granite that is shedding and gritty. There is also a damage on the peninsula that needs addressing since it is a rough spot and we spoke to Laurie about this problem and she told us that there isnt anyone from PMI in our area who can come by so we need to get it fixed on our own.
