On Friday, July 29, 2022, I went to PLS Check Cashers (***) to purchase two money orders. One money order was in the amount of $730.00 and the second money order was in the amount of $1,389.36. The clerk at *** told me that because I was paying with a debit card there would be a fee for the money orders. After the clerk checked on the computer, she came back and told me the 2 money orders would cost $84.77 to purchase. That amount seemed very high and there were no signs posted in the facility that states that there is a fee for money orders if paying with a credit card. The signs posted in the facility says money orders are free. Also, I checked *** website and there is nothing on their website that states there is a fee for purchasing money orders if using a credit card. Also, I used a debit card which is like a cash payment. The clerk said I could go to the *** machine on the premises and get the cash but the amount was too high to get the money from an *** machine because there is daily limit of $1000 on cash withdrawals. I was in a crunch and had no choice but to purchase the two money orders and pay the fee because a relative that was moving into a new apartment out of state had to catch a bus and needed those two amounts in money orders for their new apartment. If I was not in a crunch, I would have gone to the post office and purchased the 2 money orders. I think the amount for the money orders were exuberant. I called the *** headquarters and did not get too far. The representative told me that each state has their own scale for the cost of money orders. The representative was not able to find out the rates for ******** because was not able to access that information. (Huh?) After a second phone call, my name and number was taken and an investigation was supposed to be conducted. I was told I would receive a phone call from a representative at *** in 2-3 business days and that did not happen.
