I continue to receive texts from Mercantile Debt Collectors regarding some ** ******** account. I have reported the text as junk because I have never had an account with ** ******** yet I continue to receive texts. Due to the number of scams I refuse to contact the number in the text or click on the link. However, I am unable to find any contact information for said debt collector that seems to be legitimate. They need to quit contacting me seeing as I have never had an account with the entity they are trying to collect on behalf of.

For the past one month, I’ve received a total of seven identical text messages from this business. The text message is as follows: This is Mercantile Adjustment Bureau, a debt collector. Your ******** ******* *** account, owned by ******** ****** ********, has been placed with us. View your account summary: **********************************************  Reply STOP to opt out of SMS. Message and data rates may apply. I have ignored it because I thought it was a scam and certainly was not going to click on their link. However, I see many complaints about receiving the same text message, which seems to be legitimately coming from this company, but sent to the wrong person. I have never entered lease to own agreement with ***** ***. I didn’t even know who they were and had to look them up. I have no debts, pay my bills on time, I haven’t received anything in the mail that I owe anyone anything. My best guess is that this text message was sent to the wrong person, which seems to be the issue that other BBB complaints have lodged. It seems that Mercantile needs to run a tighter ship, rather than having to chase their tail correcting problems they created. If they still think I owe them money, then this is a case of ID fraud that would need to be investigated. Otherwise, I want them to just stop texting me.

I am filing this complaint on behalf of my daughter who is a minor (she is 14 years old). She received a text message from Mercantile Adjustment Bureau stating that her ****** account was now owned by ********* *******. I am not sure if this message was meant for someone else, but it definitely does not belong to my minor daughter. The phone number that the message was sent to was *************

I entered into an agreement on 9/23/24, where i would be able to pay 416 total on one of my past debts. I have paid on time all payment except the last one. For some reason the last payment never went out. I have attempted to contact them through email, as i want documentation on any time i reach out to the company. Total I have paid 371 to satisfy the current debt. I am planning to pay the last payment on 1/10/25, as the final payment was not taken out, that total is 45.83. I would like to get this debt finally resolved now, as they have not reached back out and i am not able to get any information regarding this debt. If they are not they then made a fraudulent claim that I was able to pay the lower amount as i would not be able to afford the original amount. Please any help would be appreciated.

I have left a message with the company on 1/2 and on 1,/3 and they have not returned my call and also left an e-mail on their website with no response. It is in regards to not being able to make a payment on their website. It shows that I have no account with them. I have been making monthly payments with them for over ten years and I know there is still a balance owed on my account.

I was reporting this because they are continually trying to collect a debt from me but I called my bank and it turned out they were trying to falsely collect a debt from me/ When I reached out to my bank it turned out they were falsely trying to attempt a debt collection and asked for private information such as my address and phone number. This debt collector has violated the FDCPA by engaging in abusive, deceptive, and unfair practices, all of which are prohibited by law. They reported an account I never agreed to, and there is no signed contract between us. A valid legal contract requires signatures from both parties, and I had no involvement in this agreement. Additionally, they failed to follow the necessary 5-step validation process, further proving their unfair practices. Under the FDCPA, I am entitled to $1,000 per violation, and it is clear they have infringed on my rights.

Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. I investigated this complaint regarding an account placed with Mercantile Adjustment Bureau, LLC by our client.  This is a duplicate of a complaint that Mercantile received from the consumer on October 28, 2024.  The consumer was advised on October 28, 2024 that Mercantile is a contractual agent of our client which the consumer had an agreement, therefore, Mercantile had a permissible purpose to report the account to the credit bureaus and denies any violation for abusive, deceptive, and unfair practices.  Verification documents were mailed on October 28, 2024; the credit bureaus were updated about the dispute and the account was placed in a dispute status in Mercantile's system of record. We apologize for any inconvenience that this may have caused. Sincerely, Daniel F******* Chief Compliance Officer
