On 12/8/22 we signed a contract with Hakim Shareef to excute rehab work at our propery, and bring the entire building up to code. A fix price for the work was agreed, and work started later that month. The work was suppose to take 1 month, but due to unexpected circumctences such as the storm occured on december 22, the completion date postponed to end of february23. We paid 50% down payment and another 25% at the end of January. There were 2 weeks to completion of work. After the last payment Hakim claimed that due to the storm, the plumbing has to be replaced, and despite that only some of it was damaged from the storm and the other plumbing work was included in the price as per the agreement, Hakim wanted significant extra payment for that (in addition to the 51K$ total agreement price). We had to take a plumber, who made all the necessary repairs until the end of february22. From that moment on, Hakim has done everything he could to not finish the work he was hired and paid to do. At first, he didn't answer, then he said he took other jobs and he will come as soon as he finishes them. after, he said he had some personal issues (we gave him time); after, he claimed that his workers continued to work, but since he isn't there in person, he doesn't know when they come and go, and what they do each day, and that I shouldn't micro-manging him; When we went over there, we saw that nothing was done. After, he claimed that rats problem is keeping him from working. Bottom line, we are more the 6 months!!! after he could come back to finish the work (a 2 weeks work!), and he didn't do any work "worth showing" according to his wods. We suffered great losses of 6 months rent, our plans to sell the property fade away. We offered Hakim also to refund us the overpayment he received of 18k$ due to the face he dont a 20k$ worth of work (accordong to proffesional estimate we got from the project supervisor), But Hakim refused without giving an explanation or other suggestion.

    Business response

In response to Mr.*****,  we were working daily on his project as planned.  What he's leaving out is the December snowstorm caused plumbing problems hence busted live waterlines that caused an immense amount of damages in addition to our original work load.  We had submitted an estimate to do the plumbing repairs as well as the additional construction issues i.e. buckled flooring, wall collapse, ceiling failure as well as mold remediation.  Our estimate was rejected.  Upon his decision we couldn't move forward with our original scope of work.  He did hire another plumber to rectify the plumbing issues yet upon waiting for the completion of the plumbing work we found other work to carry us over. I even told him I would do some of the additional work for free yet he managed to leave that out of his claim. Unfortunately lines of communication got crossed and here we are.  I never stopped communicating with Mr. *****, I simply couldn't allow the hourly check in calls to get progress updates.  I told him stop harassing me and let us work as we continued to find additional issues with that building.  We're still working there just not daily.  Then there is the rat problem of which I paid for extermination out of pocket.  This project is behind schedule.  We have been the answer for these issues, not the cause.  His rant of a full refund is ridiculous when the project is at 75-80% complete.   Thank you, Hakim Shareef

    Customer response

    08/27/2023

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.   Hakim response has multiple points that need clarification and some of them that are just not true. First, the complaint didn't leave out the December snowstorm and its outcomes, as Hakim response claims. The complaint describes exactly that due to an overprice estimate given by Hakim to take care of the plumbing issues that (only some of them) were caused by the storm, we had to take anouther plumber; We also mentioned  that Hakim didn't have any objection about that at the time it occured; Second, the claim that "we are still working there just not daily" is false- Since Hakim stopped the work after the storm, half a year ago, he didn't do any actual work. He admits that himself in massages he sent me, saying that he won't meet with my project supervise due to the fact "no work worth showing was done". In addition he didn't send me a single photo showing any work was done, and my represntitives who where at the property several times didn't see the slightest progress during all these months.  Now, while I understand that the December snowstorm presented challanges, my concerns extend beyond that: First, Hakim monetioned that the project is 75%-80% complete, but by my assesment, it's closer to 50%. (Hakim has never given any assesment from him shows otherwise), Despite that, Hakim was paid 75% of the contract amount, leaving me an at least 25% finanacial deficit- especially concidering the fact that Hakim told us he used the money to purchase flooring for the entire project, but it never arrived to the site. Secondly, I can't overlook the multiple instances Hakim was committed to showing up on specific days and didn't, each time offering various excuses. This has further delayed the project, and sheken my trust in his reliability;            Before I made this complaint, I read another complaint that was made in BBB against Hakim and his company. This was very similar to what happen to me- Commited to show up, then not showing up, then giving excuses for that. It's also worth mentioning that while Hakim say he was the "answer" for issues like the rat problem, I see that as part of the project which I already overpaid. And anyway this doesn't excuse the significant delays in the original scope of work, which as indicates in the complaint, is going far more the the 1-1.5 month delay that may caused by the storm (We are now almost 9 months!! after the completion date as per the contract). Given these circumstances, I believe it's more than reasonable to expect some form of compensation for the significant delays, lack of progress, and the finanacial deficit I've find myself in. My request for refund isn't "ridiculous", as claimed by Hakim, but is based on services that were not rendered according to the original agreement between my company and Hakim. I look forward to resolving this matter amicably and quicky as possible,  Regards, **** *****

In June of 2020 I signed a contract with Shareef Contracting, to have my drive redone. I gave him half done to start and the other half when the job was complete. Mr. Shareef came and drilled holes into the old concrete. He called this capping. After capping he pulled up some of the the old concrete but not all and then poured the new on top of the old. Within the week the concrete he poured started cracking, pitting, chipping and spalling. I reached out to Mr. Shareef about the issue and he said don't worry about that it's what they call stress cracks. As time went on it started to get worse to the point that the concrete looked like it had beed down for years and it had only been a month. I reached back out to him, he came and assessed the situation and said he must have gotten a bad batch of concrete material. He told me he would come and redo the job at no cost to me. After that day I contacted Mr. Shareef multiple times to see when he would be coming to redo the job and I would not get a response for weeks and months at a time. This went on so long that Covid hit and two years has passed Fast forward to August of 2022, my sister saw him out and confronted him about not redoing the job which caused him to contact me. When we did, I requested he take up the concrete he poured and the old that he never pulled up and rebar it, so that when he poured it again it would be fresh and nothing would be under it. Mr. Shareef came back and did the same thing he did the first time. He started capping what was already down removed what he poured but did not remove the old concrete from my old driveway. This was a problem because I felt the same thing was going to happen. After requesting multiple times he came and started the redo but did not finish. Now I am in jeopardy of losing my home owners insurance because of the unfinished driveway.
