We signed a contract with Atlas Asphalt and had our driveway excavated on October 9, ***** hours after we were told the team would be here. My husband lost a day of work that he did not need to. The following day the owner came to place a concrete dry well. This man not only hit our house with his bulldozer but cursed about how we would complain that he knocked our camera off the house. We did not. The team of masons laid Belgian block probably a month later about 6 higher than our previous driveway. We discussed our concerns but they were ignored. After belgian blocks came apart they came back to fix only that issue. We were put on schedule for paving Tues 12/3. It rained that day and a sinkhole formed alongside the dry well. The company has not been to our residence at all. We have been calling the office for help and we are told someone will come but nobody ever does. It is now less than a week until Christmas with no driveway. We cant drive on it at all. We have spent $12,000 so far with a balance of $3,000 for paving. We are very unhappy with the results so far and the unprofessionalism this company has put forth. If I had the option to rip it all out and be refunded I would chose another company entirely. They have not stuck to their own contract and have put dangers in our own backyard with children and pets. I have pictures and videos of the entire process. I would either like the driveway to be completed or refunded. Contacting a lawyer is our next step in what I thought was a seamless home improvement project.Business Response

Hello, and thank you for choosing Atlas Asphalt for your project. While your concerns are important to us and will be handled internally, it is also important to note that with the installation of a new drainage system, settling is common and to be expected.
To address your comments, scheduling of exterior projects like a new driveway can be severely impacted by the weather. We had a few rainy weeks in a row, which truly led to a lot of rescheduling.
Since the date of your original complaint, Atlas Asphalt did come to the residence and fill in the sinkhole with aggregate. More settling is likely, and we will continue to monitor the new drainage system and backfill it as needed to ensure a long lasting driveway that meets Atlas standards. Per Atlas' conversations with the homeowner, the driveway can safely be driven on. All debris has been removed, and the driveway is clean and clear. Atlas Asphalt has every intention of installing the final layer of asphalt as soon as the weather is conducive. ******* the last step of the process would be doing you a disservice, as we all want the completed driveway to last you 20+ years.
We hope that when the driveway is complete, you will be happy with the final result. Thank you for your patience through this process, and for trusting Atlas Asphalt with your project.

They were supposed to repave my driveway. The very first day the edges began to crumble off. They paved over things on the driveway, leaving giant bumps. And spots in the middle of the driveway, already beginning to crack. They have no straight lines and waivers in and out. Now, after theyve done their job, water pools at the end of my driveway. And then when they were finished, they use torches to clean their shovels in the brand new road in front of my house burning a hole in the road right outside my driveway. The neighbor asked them to stop what they were doing, but they ignored them and continue to burn the hole. This was in August. Its now the end of October and I keep calling them and they keep telling me theyre gonna come and then dont show up. I took off of work because they swore this time they were coming and then when the time came, they told me they couldnt even find an appointment for me. My driveway is a mess and cannot be used as it is. They damaged a brand new paved road in front of my house. And now ignore all attempts for me to get them to fix their damage and shotty work.Business Response

I hired them to replace my driveway. They did the work while i was at work and i came home to a terrible driveway from day one. I let them know right away i wasnt happy with the work they did. About 6 months after the new driveway was done it started to break apart on the edge. they sent about 5 different employees of the conoany to come look at the drive way. They sent a repair guy but not long after the driveway started falling apart again.Business Response

Driveway was installed 11/22.One month after install, what they call -graveling- started to happen. This is when the asphalt they put down starts coming loose creating gravel spots.Pretty much the driveway is falling apart.Graveling eventually leads to holes.I made the company aware. They came one time before they closed for the winter, in the dark, which they couldnt see- no lights. The repair was as poor of a job as the first install.I paid $12,200 for this driveway and it is falling apart one month after install. They told me they would come back in spring to do more repairs.By then my 1 yr warrantywill almost be expired. I can see they will keep coming to do repairs until my warranty is up and then disappear.I have pictures and videos of the driveway falling apart- and several emails with the company regarding the driveway falling apart/needing repairs after a month.I am not sure I want more repairs. The driveway was put down so poorly needing repairs in one month, what will repairs look like after my warranty is up(which will be soon).I was supposed to have a brand new driveway. That is what I paid for.Not one that needs repairs.I do not trust this company to do further repairs,I think I would want most of my money back, and them to remove the pavement they so poorly put down.I will have another company pave it again, costing me more money, whatever I cannot get back from Atlas. My old driveway needed repairs. I could have just kept my old driveway that was falling apart, been in the same place, and saved $$.I paid over 12k for a new driveway thats falling apart. The graveling is not happening just in one place. It is happening in several places. I would greatly appreciate the BBBs help here. This was an expensive purchase for me, and they do not seem to concerned about it, which concerns me more. This driveway was supposed to last ***** years. It lasted 1 month.I have more photos to upload-but it will only let me upload one picture.WouldappreciatetheBBBshelpBusiness Response

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# ********, and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:[Your Answer Here]
You company- and also ***** has my phone number. Your company is the one who should be setting an appointment up with me. Your company has already assessed the situation. ***** already has come and supposedly looked at the driveway, that is why he sent a repair crew before the winter. He needs to re assess the same situation? Sounds like more of a waste of time. My first complaint states that I do not want any further repairs from atlas. The Installation was poor enough- so was the first repair. If you would like to contact me to return the money you have stolen- and take back your pavement- you know my number
I paid $12,200 for a horribly poor paving job- and I have to call you to set up an appointment. The driveway will be all loose and a pile of gravel soon because of the poor installation job- it should be really easy for you to rake up and put in your trucks. In order for the BBB to appropriately process your response, you MUST answer the question above.

This is YOUR ISSUE as well, that you created with your poor workmanship. You keep ignoring my message that I do not want your company to do any further repairs. You call me if you would like to return my money and take back your gravel driveway that is supposed to be a paved driveway. You are just repeating the same thing with no answers of what you would do - not that I want your company to do anything but return my money.

My job was started on 8/22/22 & consisted of removing & replacing a driveway & adding pavers to encase the new black top with an apron of pavers. The job cost was 27K. I immediately noticed that the pavers were placed too high and voiced my concern to the company. I was ignored and the work continued. Asphalt was put down on an improperly graded base & this has caused water to run onto my patio. Because of the height of the pavers, it prevents water running off my driveway and this will lead to icy spots and dangerous conditions. I am getting water running into my garage(also due to improper grading). **************** *** came to check out the job and said poor grading is my problem. The Atlas *** ***** checked the job & said that the pavers are too high & causing my drainage issues. I alerted the sales person at the paving company and after being blown off several times, he and the owner came and agreed there were issues. They walked away and have to this date not responded to any calls or messages. I am most worried about ice due to the drainage issues and someone falling. My gate is also not able to properly open and the sales person showed up unannounced and started to walk around my property and play with the gate when I was not home, which is trespassing. The owner has personally been told of my concern of ************** falling but has no concern. The owner was quite obnoxious when viewing my job and rather than solving the problem just stormed away. The salesperson for the job indicated that his boss was a hot head & would talk to him. This person will now not accept my calls. I can never understand why people think money is more important than someone's safety. I dread the onset of winter arriving and worry about slipping & falling. I also had a neighborhood ***** look at my job & again grading is the problem. I paid for a quality job and certainly did not get what I was promised. And now have a gate which does not open properly & worries of falling on ice.Business Response

After several days of rain, the driveway was inspected and no major flooding or pooling of water was apparent. There were several drops of water on the floor of the garage however this is attributed to wind driven rain or another source since the apron in front of the garages are properly pitched away from the doors. There are a couple of wet spots on the surface, immeasurable as far as depth goes, and dry ** in a short period of time. The elevations chosen are designed to pitch water off the driveway, there are several different pitch points that were created to get the water off the surface, and it works. The patio has it's own issues, one being that it has settled over the years and has some low areas that collect water, although this water quickly dissipates. The owner claims the gate was damaged during construction and a new gate has been ordered per the owner, and Atlas gladly paid for this said gate.Customer Answer

Better Business Bureau:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# ********, and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:[Your Answer Here]Atlas Asphalt never came to inspect the driveway during any rainy weather. Photos have been taken by us to substantiate water running onto our patio towards our house. The biggest concern for us is improper grading or draining of water away from the house. This also creates large puddles of standing water, which can and will freeze into icy spots. The possibility of someone slipping and falling is a serious and real problem. A delivery person slipping and being injured could be a potential lawsuit against me, but also against Atlas Asphalt for improper grading of our driveway. I had an independent Architect check the driveway grading and take photos and his findings were that the driveway has improper grading and that is why water is running onto my patio. I have a written document from the Architect detailing the problem, which I had also provided to Atlas Asphalt. Atlas Asphalt seems not willing to be responsible and stand behind any mistakes made during their work on my driveway. Thank you for your time.

On July 6, 2022 Atlas Asphalt seal coated my large driveway . Approximately three weeks afterward a blemish stain had developed on a small portion of my driveway. I have contacted the receptionist nearly half a dozen times since then, and sent a photo. She proceeded to tell me that, after FIVE weeks of my trying to amicably resolve this with the company to have the small patch resealed, that the owner refused to have the area sealed claiming the stain was fading. This is entirely false and untrue, as the blemish stands just as evident as originally stated, and after paying them with a check theyve since cashed, This is extremely poor customer service from a Long ********************** ** local company who is not being put out of their way when asked to repair something they should be.Business Response

A blemish does not just appear out of nowhere after doing a sealcoat. A sealcoat is a simple painting over the existing driveway and any imperfections prior or directly after this service is performed will be visible immediately. ************ hold no warranty & the cause of anything like this happening is not due to anything Atlas did, a car leaking oil in this are is a common problem that would cause this.Customer Answer

Oil . This blemish is right in front of my garage doors. The seal coat was not applied appropriately in this one small area Atlas should be repairing this faulty work, stand behind their service, without giving customers such a hard time after taking their hard earned money . As very apparent in the photo, absolutely no oil is present nor is any other chemical
