I was sent a notice to be billed for $9,154 for services on 2/5/24 by ************. I never saw ************* and received those services.

Hello.  What the patient received was not a bill, but an explanation of benefits that is generated by their insurance company. We do not ever surprise bill any of our patients, and all patients know what they will have to pay out of pocket before they come in for their appointment.

************** owns the practice and the practice is under his tax ID, which is why often times he is listed by the insurance company as the physician, even if the patient saw another provider.  The provider listed on the explanation of benefits does not change or affect anything.  Viva *** meets with all new patients to have an in-depth discussion about how we do our billing and what to expect, and most of our new patients understand and appreciate that.  However, unfortunately, there are always a few patients that we either miss speaking to or don't quite understand our policy despite us doing our best to explain it.

We understand that insurance policies and billing can be confusing in general and can be difficult to understand, but we do our best to make it clear as possible.

They bill you repeatedly for bills that have been paid. I have called and paid entire balance over the phone and am now being told I owe them $1167 which I was never billed for, was not on my account balance, was never given a check by insurance. I have repeatedly had issues with this companies billing practices and have been told they were looking into it, with them never contacting me with any resolution or answer, and I believe what they are doing is billing fraudulently. they also pray on uneducated women and new lot pregnant women who dont know the general obstetrics practices. If needed I will obtain legal council.

We tried contacting this patient several times over the last few weeks to explain to her that in some cases there is a lag time between when the patient makes payment and our outside billing company processes the payment and posts it on our system, leading our system to automatically send out another bill until payment is made. There is also often a delay between when the insurance companies notify us that a check has been sent to the patient, and when they actually send out the check, leading to us reaching out to the patient prematurely for payment. This is something we are currently working on trying to improve, however the patient refuses to answer our calls and requested through email that she does not want to be contacted by us. As of now, patient does not owe anything and her balance has been zeroed out. There is nothing fraudulent about our billing, it is just that unfortunately, most people dont understand how insurance billing works.

I called the location to set up an appointment and was told that I would have to have my insurance checked before I can set up an appointment to confirm my insurance covers this location. I received a call stating that it was covered and set up an appointment. I received a notification a few months later stating that the location is Out of network and Im showing several charges. Unethical practice.

      Hello,

There was no bill sent out to the patient from our practice.  This was an Explanation of Benefits that went out from the insurance company and is not a bill.  Many patients mistake it for a bill.

The patient does not owe any payment out of pocket at this time.  Payment was made by the insurance company for the services.

      Thanks so much,

      **************

*********** billed my insurance $3,978 for a routine Pap with an NP, NOT MD. I was told by a "finance counselor" there to IGNORE a big bill I will receive. I find this place completely unethical and do not believe it is operating within legal guidelines.

      Business Response

      Hello,

We are an out of network provider facility and our services tend to cost more than in-network, which is customary.  We do not tell patients to ignore big bills, we let them know that they will be receiving and Explanation of Benefits from their insurance company, and that it might have big numbers on it.  We also explain that this is not a bill, and the insurance company will be sending a check to them in the amount they agreed to pay us, shortly after.  All we ask is that they send us the check when they receive it, which is what the insurance company expects them to do.  Many patients don't understand how insurance or billing works and we try our best to explain it.  There's absolutely nothing unethical about what we do.  We actually try to help patients so that they don't have a lot of out of pocket to pay.

About 7 months ago, I made an appointment with this clinic to see a doctor. I called to make sure the clinic accepts my insurance, and they said yes they accept my insurance and I only need to pay the regular Co-pay like any another doctor's visit. The day of appointment they took copy of my insurance and photo ID. No body at this point informed me that there will be additional out of pocket pay or charges that my insurance may not cover. I saw the doctors and they conducted their regular exam and procedure. About a month after my appointment, I received a bill via mail and email in the amount of $1407.74 claiming that I am responsible to pay this amount. I called the clinic and asked the reason for this bill since i was told my insurance fully cover my visit. The clinic said, the procedure was not covered by your insurance and you are responsible to pay. I explained to the clinic that when I called to make the appointment I was told that my insurance fully covers my visits, and that was the only reason i made the appointment. The clinic responded, that it is the protocol, and you can choose to agree on a monthly payment plan. The clinic kept sending me bills , final reminder and threatening to forward the statement for collection. I eventually paid the above amount via the check. The action of this clinic resulted in a confusion and argument between me and my insurance company. The clinic action could potentially increase my insurance premium. I have never received a bill for a doctor visits before. I feel like this was a scam planned to lure a patient and later on charged him for additional money.

This patient's insurance company agreed to pay ** $1,407.74 for the services we provided. They notified us that they sent her a check in that amount.  We sent her a letter informing her that would be receiving the check and needs to forward it to us for her balance to be zeroed.  We did not bill her.  We only asked that the check that was meant for us be sent to us.  ********************* expects the patient to send the checks to us so that we can get paid by them for services rendered.  She eventually sent the check and now owes nothing more. Thanks!

Came here for my annual check up which normally includes some blood tests and a pap smear and is covered by my insurance ***** as a 'routine annual check up'. This year I booked at ******** via ****** where it clearly states that this clinic is 'In Network'. I had my routine check up and PAP and then agreed to an ultrasound to check some irregular bleeding thinking this was all In Network. So far, Vive Eve has billed my insurance $15.2k of which I am so far eligible for $1.9k (although there is another $6k O/S for which I have not received my copay yet so I expect another $1k). I only expected to pay for the two ultra-sounds (cost to me $860 but again should have been cheaper as 'In Network') however I feel as though both myself and ***** have been cheated.

We try very hard to have all the insurances we accept in-network and out of network listed accurately everywhere, however, we have no control over third party platforms such as ZocDoc who frequently reset our settings, thus inaccurately listing the insurances we accept.  This is why we make it a point to have this "insurance and billing" talk with all of our new patients before they go in for their visit.  We never surprise bill any of our patients, but many of them mistake the Explanation of Benefits they receive from their insurance company with a bill.  Any patient who has to pay out of pocket is always told before the visit and never after.  This is a strict policy here at ********.  Also, the insurance companies all know that we are out of Network so no surprise there.
