I hired Steve R****** the owner of SJR construction to perform a basement remodel at my home . He started working on 11/16/2021. I was not pleased with his work and attempted to have civil discussion with him, when that proved to go no where we decided it was best to terminate his contract on 11/18/2021. He worked 1 full day and until about 2pm the next day before the contract was terminated. Largely, it was the adherence to predefined specifications such as what we previously discussed the project would entail. His professionalism while on the job lord lack there of, the alignment of the studs and their accuracy to specification and building code. Additionally, it was his refusal to correct damages done to my joists and the dismissal and argumentative nature of his claim that it was not an issue. Lastly it was the fact that the work wasn’t being done correctly overall and the installed 2x4’s were moving, even though he intended to install dry wall within the next day as he explained. He is refusing to pay me back part of the initial payment provided to him per his “phased” contract. or provide proof of what he is charging me for now that the contract has been terminated. He and I both signed this and he had previously agreed to return $3000 which wasn’t adequate in my estimation, however, we agreed to have him return said funds on December 17th 2021. I have yet to hear from Steven even after calling him and leaving messages on his reach number. I’ve sent multiple communication and still have had no compliance on the contractors part. He left my home damaged and my basement a mess my wife and I subsequently cleaned up. and now I will need to hire someone else to fix his work.
