We would like to thank The Better Business Bureau for contacting us as we take these matters seriously. It should be known that Second Look, Inc. is an insurance service provider specializing in subrogation. Second look, Inc. only provides service to the insurance industry and not to the general public. The individual filing this complaint who we will refer to as the "complainant" from this point forward is not a customer of ******************** nor would they be considered a consumer in this situation. The complainant has been linked to an outstanding insurance claim that requires their attention to effectively dispose of. After receiving this BBB complaint, we contacted the complainant immediately and explained in detail as to why they were receiving such communication from our organization. As far as we know there is no longer a misunderstanding regarding the purpose of our communication with the complainant. At this moment in time our file is still open and active. If the complainant has any further questions or concerns regarding this matter, they are free to call us @ ************** and speak with their subrogation representative or speak with a supervisor.Initial Complaint

So on April 13 ********************************************************* an attempt to defraud her insurance company. She waited until our light turned green and traffic began to move and than while it was still green she pulled her emergency brake for no reason. This all was captured on the dash cam of the car behind me and provided to the ***************************. This company has been demanding that I make a payment in the amount of $5529.89 to cover the damages to their clients car. After she is responsible for totaling my car that was valued at $13,000 ***** blue book. When they contacted me I requested that we go before a judge to resolve this matter as I am not at fault and I too suffered damages by this womans actions, her insurance company should have denied her claim instead of paying her repairs, after doing theyre due diligence to obtain the dash cam footage that clearly showed that she was responsible for the wreck. The woman that called me hung up on me after telling me that she was going to get my license suspended. She refused to accept my response that we go before a judge to resolve this matter. Instead she is still attempting to make me pay for this wreck that I did not cause and that I am not responsible for. She offered me the opportunity to dispose of this matter in a letter that she dated February 12th which arrived on February 20th. The day after I filed my taxes which I assume she was hopeful that I would not respond as she likely intended to steal my tax return and force me to pay for this matter that I requested a court date to resolve. However after 5 failed attempts to fax to the representative. I was able to successfully fax it to the president of the company same fax #. today the 21st of February. 9 days after the last letter I Received I am also mailing the same document and my offer to settle this matter with my payment offer of $1.11. If they refuse my offer and take my tax money I then want a full refund as well as payment carBusiness Response

We'd like to thank the Better Business Bureau for contacting us as we take these matters seriously. The issue raised by the complainant arises from a rear end collision that occurred on April 13,2021 in *************. The BBB would not be the appropriate forum to resolve this issue in satisfaction of both parties. Second Look refutes any accusation of wrongdoing or unfair business practices while trying to resolve the complainant's outstanding insurance claim. There is an official police accident report on record that was recorded by the *************************** which details an eyewitness account that the complainant was driving erratically when they rear ended our client's insured. During the course of handling of this claim it was revealed that the complainant was operating a motor vehicle on a public highway without insurance leaving the complainant no alternative but to handle this claim on their own and make good on their financial responsibility. Second Look has made every attempt to negotiate a fair and equitable settlement with the complainant, however as the BBB can see based on the content of the complaint filed, the complainant is unwilling to come to reasonable terms. At this time Second Look's file remains open and active.Initial Complaint

I keep receiving letters from Second Look stating that I need to set up a payment arrangement with them for an accident from 2022. This last one I got last month said it's the last chance to act on it and to contact them immediately. However no contact number, or email were anywhere on this letter. I fear this might be a scam.Business Response

I keep getting calls from them is saying that I was in a car accident in November 2022. Which I was not, for a car that I have never owned. I told someone this already and they continue to ****** me with calls. I finally called back and spoke to someone who was extremely rude by the name of ******. Since I was not in any accident I do not feel comfortable providing my information. I've already told them I never owned that car nor was I in an accident on those dates. I do not want to be held financially responsible for anything that I am not simply because they do not get the records straight.Business Response

In order for us to properly assess the situation raised by the complainant we would either need our control # or account # to index the claim. I have been receiving a notice from 2nd look stating I owe $28K for an accident that happened year ago; however, I sold the car back in 2018. The car has not been registered to me since 2018 nor has been on my insurance. When I called the company, they said they ran the *** and it came back to me as an owner, so they are trying to collect. I stated I feel like I am being scammed demanding I take monetary action.Business Response

We'd like to thank the Better Business Bureau for contacting us as we take these matters seriously. First and foremost we'd like to advise the individual fling this complaint that we are not trying to "scam" them. Second Look has been servicing the insurance industry for 30+ years. Our only goal is to resolve outstanding insurance claims referred to ** by our clients amicably. Without divulging too much information on a public forum regarding the insurance claim that we're handling, The individual filing this complaint is listed as the registered owner on an official police accident report that was involved in a motor vehicle accident with our client's insured. In order for this individual to prove that the police accident report is incorrect regarding ownership of the vehicle involved, they would need to obtain an amended police accident report removing their information as being the legal registered owner or provide with ** an official DMV abstract. Unfortunately without either one being provided, we cannot remove their information from the claim at this time.
It should be known that we have taken the extra step on requesting information from the **** ****** of ***** Vehicles on who they considered the legal registered owner of the vehicle to be on the date of accident. Therefore we respectfully request that the Better Business Bureau close this case as any further developments regarding this insurance claim should not be disclosed publicly.

This company is making false claims saying I owe them some thousands of dollars, when I have no dealings with them. I don't know who they are and I certainly don't owe them anything. the car they want to think is mine was sold 8 months prior to the lady that had an accident in it. this company knows this I sent them the pictures of the lady that bought it. BMV wouldn't let me report it sold because of covid they wouldn't let anyone in at the time.Business Response

We'd like to thank the Better Business Bureau for contacting us as we take these matters serious. We reviewed the complaint filed by the complainant ******************* and noticed that some of the issues raised in the complaint are inaccurate. The complainant is familiar with our organization and our involvement in this auto claim arising from the date of loss 10/08/2021. However, after reviewing the documentation provided by the complainant regarding the transfer of ownership of the liable vehicle associated with this claim, we have deemed this to be sufficient to remove the complainant's information from our file. In the unlikely event that the complainant should receive additional correspondence from our office in reference to this auto claim, we would advise the complainant to contact our operations manager ************************************* direct @ *************Customer Answer

Control Number *******, An incident that occurred in ******** in August of 2019. My issue is not if I owe the bill, but how the company performs it collection attempts. The amount owed was initially about $6000, of which I have paid it down to just over $1300. Today, I got a call from Joyl ******. (Ext # ************) at Second Look. I missed the call and decided to call it back. *** ****** identified himself and who he was with, and I attempted to schedule a payment for tomorrow. (I had missed the last two) and this call went bad. *** ****** told me I had missed Aug and Sep Payment. I explained I thought I had set up a scheduled payment and truly believed I had only missed Sep. His response was rather rude to the tone of "he didn't know anything about that" but his system showed I owed two payments". I told him we could schedule a $90 payment, but he insisted, I didn't understand, I owed two months, so I told him he'd take what I could pay or we weren't having that conversation today (9/29/22). He called immediately back and asked me if I had hung up on him. I told him I had and that I would only pay what I could pay and no more. At this point, he informed me I didn't understand, I couldn't default on this account because if I did he could/would petition my state to "REVOKE" my license. It was at this point I hung up again. I did call back and talked to someone named *** and I am making a payment tomorrow. Then, I am going to try to speak with ******, ****'s supervisor about a settlement. I am furious, upset, and a little worried now. That statement he made about my license was threatening and aggressive. He thought if he threatened me with something legal, I would have more money. Also, from what I am seeing this company isn't licensed to collect debt in ********. When I ********* up from a collection call, so unsettled, I am questioning if I can trust the person on the other end, the collection attempt went too far.Business Response

We would like to thank the Better Business Bureau for notifying us on this situation raised by the consumer as we take these matters seriously. First, we would like to advise the BBB that the allegation that our interaction with the listed consumer arises form a debt is incorrect. The complainant has been deemed to be responsible for a subrogation claim arising from an automobile accident in which valid liability insurance coverage could not be identified on their behalf. Liability was determined by the referring client as well as our internal analysis of the claim that this individual was negligent and should be held responsible for the damages paid by the referring client. This would not meet the definition of a debt as stated since there was no transaction of goods or services between our client and the complainant. After review of the file history, the gaps in the installment plan relayed to the complainant are true. Most claims handled by our office are resolved in a one lump sum settlement preferred by our clients, when that cannot be accomplished due to financial hardships, we do offer monthly installment plans with the understanding that payments are to be made monthly. Failure to comply with monthly installments at any time whether known or unknown to the individual required to make the payments, may render the agreement null and void. However, considering that the complainant is still willing to resolve their outstanding claim, we have alerted the agents supervisor to reach out to them some time today for a resolution. The claim has also been reassigned to another representative in our company for further handling.
As far as the desired settlement referenced by the complainant, a public forum would not be the appropriate platform to either accept or decline their settlement offer.
