On January 6, 2025 we contracted the company for a plumbing project, for which they provided an estimate of $3,500 plus tax. At their insistence and in good faith, we remitted a 50% deposit totaling $1,900, based on your commitment to commence work immediately. It has now been 8 weeks without any progress or communication from your end. Despite 10 phone calls and multiple text messages, all attempts to reach them have gone unanswered. Additionally, the insurance documentation, required by the building management, was provided to them and remains unreturned, despite several requests which demonstrates their unwillingness to cooperate.Initial Complaint

-Date: January 17, 2025 -Amount paid for service: $500.25 - Central Plumbing and Drains originally quoted $85 for the service of clearing my backed-up drain but once job was completed the invoice totaled up to $500.25. Service tech was on property for a total of 30 mins and no additional parts/consumables were used on the job - The dispute is over the fact the company quoted the job at one price but charged a different rate once the job was completed. Was not expecting to be charged a rate that was 600% over the original amount. - I personally reached back out to get an understanding of how or why this miscommunication occurred. The owner, Steve, informed me that he has a recording of our original conversation and ensured me that I misheard what the $85 was for and that he doesn’t give estimates over the phone. I asked Steve to email me the recorded conversation so I also could see the misunderstanding but he threatened me with litigation for harassment if I continued forwards. No further attempts for communication has made by either side -During my phone calls with Steve at Central Plumbing and Drains he was confrontational and hostile to why I reached out to seek answers. Would like to make other people aware of the unprofessional practices that occur with this businessInitial Complaint

These plumbers showed up on 1/30/25 to my home 4 hours late, which I was very understanding and just grateful they arrived. A simple fix of changing shut off valves under a bathroom sink in the second floor of the house was needed. After arriving late and quoting me $1900.00 for changing 2 shut offs and editing a drain pipe to the sink, they realized they did not have the right fittings to do the job, so they left for 2.5 hours to get the right materials. After arriving back to the house for the second time, they came inside and proceeded to cut off the water lines without shutting off the water in the basement. My second floor was immediately filled with gallons water which filled my first floor ceiling and then flooded the 1st floor which then leaked through to the basement. They single handily ruined all 3 rooms and caused 25k+ in damages. When I called the main boss, Steve, he said he would need Dan and his helper to leave, travel 1.5 hours one way back to their home base, and get commercial fans to dry everything out. They left all the pipes cut and uncapped and water off leaving a myself, a 71 year old cancer patient and our 10 pregnant horses with no water. They never returned and are unreachable by phone, even though they stated they would be back with commercial fans and now they will not answer calls and texts. This has devastated our home and lives mid winter with no effort on their part to fix their mistake. When I demanded insurance information I got no reply. With no reply on the insurance information request leaves me to believe they might be uninsured, even though they advertise they are fully insured. I have video and photos proof of the damage, and of their service vehicle arriving multiple times on the day in question. Also I have other witnesses besides myself of them cutting and line and realizing their mistake after the line was cut.Initial Complaint

Swindling, fraudulent charge on invoice, fraudulent inflation of prices. Excessive charge, amounts on invoice are 10 times greater than average or normal prices. Seems like a decimal point error in pricing.Initial Complaint

We (and several other families in the central NY area) have fallen victim to a plumbing scam. The business that we contact (*********) sent out a person from another plumbing company (Central Plumbing and Drains). ********* supposedly is BBB Certified and has a lot of other credentials on their website. How can a business have the BBB stamp of approval and do a bait and switch? Notice in one of the pictures attached you will see a Central Plumbing employee AND a ********* van in the same picture.Business Response

Today Wednesday April 3rd I hired this business to fix a leaky faucet for me. The employee got at my house around 10:00 and checked out the faucet and said he will be back in 30 min. After 2.5 hours of him being gone he comes back with a brand new faucet and tells me this is what we will do. Change out the faucet with a new one. I told the guy sure we can change the faucet if that’s what it needs to stop the leaking. The change took him about 15 min and he ended up using some of the old parts on the new faucet. We get to the billing part of it and they tell me it’s going to be $1200. So I ask the guy for an itemized receipt and he refused to give me a receipt. He calls his boss and I’m arguing with him for a half hour for an itemized receipt. After he got tired of denying me a receipt he said he will go down to $950 for payment and I still didn’t agree with that I wanted him to take his parts back and leave at that point. After an hour of arguing he then said he can do $800 and lied to tell me the faucet was $500 and labor was $300. So I said fine and he billed me for $800 bucks and the guy left but still I didn’t get an itemized receipt like I demanded. The whole situation seemed like a set up and how he went from $1200 to $800 just for me using my voice and denying to pay that ridiculous amount is very concerning. Come to find out the same exact faucet he put in, is in store for only $158 after tax so that means they definitely lied about that what else do they lie about…After researching and hearing more word from others I feel as if this business should be investigated and stopped from scamming more consumers like me. So yeah 800 to fix a leaky faucetInitial Complaint

I had a plumbing issue - underneath my kitchen sink, I had leaks. I've had them before, but never called anyone until Sat., Dec. 30, 2023. The guy, Steve V*****, came over Saturday, looked under the sink, and said it'd be about $950. Then he said something about my cellar, that I needed $5000 for what he was going to do. At the time, I'm not thinking about the amounts. I just wanted the work done under the sink. He said he couldn't get the parts Sunday, which was a holiday weekend. He did Monday, Jan. 1, 2024, which I knew that was a holiday and knew I'd pay more. Well, I signed the bill, still not realizing how much I got charged. He never left me the bill. He said I get it after I pay my bill. Later on that evening, I got thinking how much that bill was, and then it hit me - that was WAY too much money. The charge - $8,672.61!! I'm thinking how absolute ridiculous that amount was. So did a whole bunch of people that I let know about. I called a friend the next day and told him the situation. He said to get a copy of the bill from Steve. He did bring it down and put in my mailbox. What he did do was put new piping under my kitchen sink, and some piping down in the cellar. And that's what I got charged with!! I know it was a holiday, so I expected to pay more, but not that much. I found out too, that he stole some merchandise from ****** way for over $5000. And being a woman and single, sounds like he was taking advantage of me. My brother-in law did go talk to him about the amount. He did bring the price down, but it was still high. I paid $5500. He was giving my brother-in-law a hard time at first. Then he came down on the price. Is there anything I can do about this situation? And he didn't itemize each thing he did - just what he did down cellar, which was one big chunk of money - over $6000.Initial Complaint

This company rips you off, overcharges, and lies about needing a pipe repaired. They showed us a video that we thought was our pipe that wasn’t ours. Said we had a collapsed pipe, wanted to charge ,7500 to repair pipe. Not counting the 2,200, that they already charged us. Found out from another company there was no collapse pipe. Do not use this company, they will rip you off.Business Response

Greetings, A deep search into records show that this was an error in accounting, not intentional. I have reached out to the customer on behalf of the company to offer apologies to the customer. This was not intentional. This appears to be a cross of communication in the mail. I have personally reached out to the customer and assured her that the company will send her a refund of $2,400.00 within 5-7 business days at the address she provides us.
