When I bought my home last August ****** gave me shingle tiles and paper work for the new roof installed by JP last April and further corrective work they did on it for the closing after my inspection. I contacted JP within the year of their work in April because other contractors for other work said the side flashing where the garage roof meets the side of the house needs to he corrected. I was told I’d be contacted soon. One day a man came unannounced in an unmarked pick up saying he was from JP wanting to look at it inside and out but after he did when he was back outside he announced the warranty did not transfer after seller sold the house and refused to correct it. Moreover he blamed the seller for not paying him enough to do it properly and admitted he knew it had needed side flashing. I’m currently contacting other BBB roofing contractors getting estimates to repair this to avoid further damage to the home. I also worry a lot that more roofwork may be defective since after the inspection they had to cover a whole in the roof they shingles over without fixing it first and add roof venting which they had not correctly and had led to mold accumulation. I chose this house in part because it supposedly had a new roof with a transferred warranty for the work and shingles. I did not contact the shingles company yet but I will be doing that. I was told by other contractors it’s more the roof work than the shingles but probably the shingle company should be informed of the problem as well.

JP construction was never on the premises of **** ******* ***** nor have we ever spoken to any homeowner at this address past or present. I'm going to assume this is either a mix up of companies ( as there is multiple JP companies) or this is a fraudulent claim by a competitor.  Either or people should do the correct research before filing a complaint against a company.

BBB spoke to John at the business and the following was relayed: I did the roof for the previous homeowner. The roof warranty is with the homeowner and is nontransferable. I explained to the original homeowner that there could be a problem down the road because they have asbestos shingles and it needs to be replaced with vinyl. The issue is believed to be due to ice backup as there are no overhangs, not due to a leak.

Better Business Bureau: I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.Roofer was contacted by phone within year warranty of workmanship of roof contract in April. He later came without calling on pretense of repairing to look at work.  Ice build up and asbestos were not given as causes and roofer refused to repair claiming no duty under a roofers duty of his warranty of adequate workmanship to subsequent owner.  I disagreed at time he had no warranty of good workmanship to buyer. It appears he is insinuating Seller knew roof was inadequate at time of sale and at time he returned in August to patch a hole under the certainties shingles and repair poor workmanship in August 2021 and if true he had a duty to disclose and failed to disclose that to the realtors during the closing with knowledge of a potential subsequent owner.  I argue any other poor workmanship at that time also had a warranty of the workmanship to me the buyer. The fact he did repair to roof during closing shown by receipts submitted to BBB.Thank you and I will wait to hear your advice    Regards, ***** *******
