I am writing to formally lodge a complaint against DataCamp **** regarding an issue I encountered with their certification exam evaluation process. As a subscriber to their platform, I have completed numerous courses related to data science, and recently, I undertook their certification exam. The exam is divided into three parts: two sections are graded automatically by their system, and the third is manually evaluated by an assessor. I passed the first two sections without issue. However, I was informed that I failed the third section based on one of the sixteen evaluation criteria. The failure was attributed to a minor omission in my analysis, which I believe did not impact the validity of the overall results. In my second attempt, I specifically addressed the criterion that led to my previous failure, making no other changes to my submission. Despite this, I was informed that I had failed again, this time due to a different criterionone that I had passed in my initial attempt. When I questioned this inconsistency and provided an explanation that I had not altered anything related to the newly cited criterion, the response from DataCamp reverted to the original issue. This inconsistent and contradictory evaluation process has left me deeply frustrated. I have made every effort to meet the required standards, yet the feedback has been conflicting and unclear. I am seeking the BBB's assistance in resolving this dispute, as I believe I am entitled to a fair reassessment of my exam or a detailed and consistent explanation of the evaluation process.Attached are copies of my communications with DataCamp, including the evaluation criteria and all related correspondence.I appreciate your assistance in addressing this matter and look forward to your guidance on the next steps.

    Hi ********,

I hope this message finds you well.

First and foremost, I want to sincerely apologize that your recent experience with us has led to the need for a formal complaint. I completely understand how frustrating it must be to invest your time and effort into an exam, only to receive a result that was not what you had hoped for.

I understand youve requested further information on why you didnt pass the exam, and Im sorry that were unable to provide that level of detail. Because the DataCamp Certification is structured as an industry-level exam, our policy is to not disclose specific performance feedback. This ensures fairness to all candidates, particularly those who may need to retake it, and aligns with practices in similar certifications across the industry.

That said, I recognize this might feel discouraging, and I want to assure you that youre not alone in this. Many learners have found success after a second attempt, and the good news is that you are now eligible to retake the exam, as 14 days have passed since your last submission. We truly believe in your potential to succeed.

Thank you again for reaching out and for sharing your concerns with us. If you have any further questions or need additional guidance, please dont hesitate to contact us.

Wishing you the best of luck on your next attempt

I was taking a certification as part of a requirement for my masters degree course. I submitted the assignment on time and their system screwed up my date/time of completion. This resulted in me not getting credit for my work and impacting my grade. They are refusing to correct the issue despite me correcting them by providing evidence that I saved my certificate of completion before they show I took the course, I also converted their UTC time to EST and it falls within the window that my assignment was due.

After hundreds of hours spent on DataCamp courses, I started a DataCamp certification. I passed the two tests and was ready to record my presentation. Due to a technical issue in the DataCamp system (the browser said the presentation was loading and it was in fact recording me), I requested support from their customer services. The certification lasts for 30 days until you have to start over again, and I contacted DataCamp 2 1/2 weeks ago with no resolution so far. My certification is about to expire, which will leave me having to start over again because DataCamp won't provide any resolution. So far, I have emailed DataCamp a total of around 10 times, called them and was directed to email them, and attempted to get past the ** bot to talk to someone and that did work finally after several attempts, I was able to get through to someone a few days ago. Then, I was told that my ticket was put on hold so they could reach out to the engineering team, and that was a few days ago. I told them this was time sensitive, and once again, no responses. The DataCamp website says that issues are attended to within a few days. I have tried so hard to get a hold of anyone to no avail, and this is one of the worst, slowest customer services experiences I've had, if not the worst. It is especially frustrating because of the months I've spent preparing for DataCamp certification and the hundreds of hours I've devoted. This is an inappropriate length of time for something like this, a small technical error, to get resolved, and it's ironic that DataCamp, an organization furthering data analytics, cannot seem to be bothered to address it. All I want is to complete my certification without having to start over and for others not to have to deal with this poor customer services experience.

I got charged by DataCamp $249.00 on the 12th of January, **** without any notification. I have not used this service for a year. I do not need this service anymore, and I think for this big amount of subscription fee, an advanced notice is necessary. Especially for accounts that are not active for quite a long time. Throughout the past year, DataCamp did not communicate with me to check why I'm was not using the service. I am just charged without notice, and did not even receive an invoice of the charge (it is only uploaded in my profile). I found out this charge by checking my credit card expense after I received a confirmation email from DataCamp about my renewal. I see I am not the only one who is clearly not satisfied with the renewal policy. Without the communication to engage inactive users, without advanced notice of the upcoming renewal and no invoice, it feels like DataCamp is tricking people to pay for things they did not get any value from. Therefore I want a refund for the complete subscription renewal fee ($249.00), or at least a significant part of it.

    Business Response

    Date: 02/09/2024

As a one-time courtesy, I have deactivated your subscription and refunded $249.00, which will be returned to your payment method within **** business days.

DataCamp is a subscription-based service, meaning it auto-renews on a monthly or yearly basis, depending on the subscription that you chose.

I got charged CAD$205.43 by DataCamp on Jan 16, **** without any notice. I have not used this service for almost a year. I do not need this service anymore, and I think for this big amount of subscription fee, an advanced notice is necessary, especially for the accounts that are not active for a long time. Throughout the past year, DataCamp did not communicate with me to check why I'm was not using the service, which at least can remind me I payed for this thing. They just charged without notice, and I did not even receive an invoice of the charge. I found out this charge by checking my credit card expenses. I see other people had similar issues with DataCamp, so there is definitely something wrong. Without the communication to engage not active user, without advanced notice of the high amount of subscription fee charging and no invoice of notification after charging, it feels like DataCamp is quietly tricking people to pay for things they did not get any value from. I want to get a refund only for this subscription renewal fee (CAD$205.43), not the part for the past few months I did not use. I'm waiting for they anserw about the refund which I think it's the right thing to do at this moment.

DataCamp charges an annual auto renewal fee of 300 dollars. I have not used the service for the past couple of years but did not realize the charge before since it was lumped into PayPal charges and under an email address from my former which I do not have access. I noticed the charge this year and called them immediately after the charge to obtain a refund. They denied alleging that we had agreed to their terms of service. As a result I will be paying the service for one year but not using it. I would like a refund since we contacted them right away.

At this time, I have been contacted directly by DataCamp, Inc. regarding complaint ID ********, however my complaint has NOT been resolved because they requested account information or login information that I dont have because Ive never used the product. They have asked for last four digits of the debit card and expiration date which I provided. They claim they cannot locate the account. They wanted a screenshot of my bank statement with DATACAMP charge and I provided that. The 25th of each month is when they charge me $39.00 and Ive asked them not to charge this fee again as today is the 22nd. They just claim ignorance and will probably charge me again.

On December 3rd, 2022, DataCamp charged me for *two* subscriptions I did not subscribe to, for 99$ and 69$. I previously subscribed to DataCamp in 2019. I received a refund last year on their automatic renewal and my subscription (which was then 149$) should have been canceled. I do not use this service or have any need to. Nonetheless, not only did they change their subscription to two separate subscription (which I did not consent to), they resubscribed me and charged me.
