A disgruntled student has posted an egregiously fake review of a course I didnt even teach the semester they filed a complaint (and hadnt taught for years). The fact that this has brought my high score down is unfair. The lack of quality control on this site and its very real repercussions are problematic. Ive contacted the site several times and have received no response. I have no problem with constructive criticism, but this is purposeful vengeance for I-dont-know-what. Students need to take responsibility for their own actions instead of trying to viciously slander dedicated professors. It is the sites duty to ensure theyre not able to bully professors - and damage their reputation and course enrollments - in this way.

Although they claim "We do not remove professors from our site unless they are no longer teaching at the listed University and have been removed from the college's website." there is no way to actually have your name removed (links don't work!)I do not work at *any* college or university and the baseless claims and personal attacks remain up.

Hi,In December of 2022, I contacted ******************* (RMP) about an undercount of "AWESOMES" in my teaching profile, an undercount which affects my teaching rating and how I am perceived by students at the ***************************** and my peers. As I write, there is an undercount of 10 "AWESOMES" and the number of total ratings; I should have 37 AWESOMES, not 27.On January 31, 2023, an RMP Community Manager responded to me, saying that they were "catching up on a bit of a backlog" and that they would "be in touch shortly once we have more information regarding the various category counts."It's been nearly 7 weeks since I last heard from RMP about this matter. I understand that fixing this database or coding issue is complex and may take time.I am just asking for communication or an update about the matter and that it somehow be resolved by July 1, 2023. I think 6 months is reasonable and hope they can respect my position and how this problem impacts my teaching and professional reputation.Thank you for whatever help you can provide in resolving this issue.

First, I want to express my support for students sharing information about their experiences in college. I'm a believer in freedom of speech. If a student has a concern and wants something to change, the most effective way to actually get what they want (without breaking college policies) is to talk directly to the professor. And if that doesn't work, the professor's direct supervisor (usually a department chair) is a good follow-up. As a professor myself, I am very generous with extending deadlines, re-teaching concepts, providing extra resources, and setting up one-on-one meetings outside my usual office hours to accommodate all students to the best of my ability. In other words, colleges already have systems in place to make sure students can get the help they need.If for whatever reason students decide not to use these systems, instead ruminating in their negativity well beyond the end of the semester, and then choose to post their experiences for the world to see, then they also have that right (though it might not be as effective in getting what they want). But the real problem is the fact that anyone can go to RMP, make unlimited anonymous accounts with no verification of even attending the college, and post defamatory and often false statements on a public website, tarnishing a professor's personal and professional reputation. In addition to non-specific non-actionable complaints like "treated me like I was stupid" (but how exactly? I also haven't taught that course code in over a year...), some of the outright lies posted about me on RMP include:"pop quizzes" (which I have never given and don't believe in at all);"group projects" (again, I don't give those at all);"graded by few things" (despite other students saying there is too much homework, and I assign the exact same homework as the rest of the department);"emailed asking if I could attend class even if I withdraw" (withdrawing means you stop attending, and no email was received).

I retired from ********************, a member of the community college system for the Alamo Colleges in ***********, *****, in 2015. When I retired I had served the college system since ****, and I retired in good standing with the District. Since that time, I have intended to continue my service in academia by serving as a substitute teacher for the local public school district (*********** Independent School District). I did so for approximately a year in 2019, until at such time COVID made its grand entrance on the scene. In the meantime, I have made efforts to reenter the workplace, now that I have reached full retirement age and am able to work without continuously delving into my retirement and Social Security benefits. I currently am receiving a small amount monthly, but it is not nearly what I need to sustain a household. Since I am divorced and have financial responsibilities, it is incumbent that I work. My daughter lives with me and she has her own limitations. She is trying to further her education, but if it had not been for her I would not have known how I have been attacked, framed and slandered. After many attempts to find a part-time job I have had absolutely no luck. I am not called for an interview and am left without income. My daughter shared with me a website called Rate My Professor, and when I searched my name, I was appalled, hurt and dismayed. Please keep in mind, my past experience with the ********************************* at ******************** that started back in ****. The comments and rating are disturbing and disgusting. These incriminating and slanderous remarks have hurt me and branded me in a very unfavorable light. Even more, my professional career has been white-washed and damaged.I have wondered why my efforts to find employment have been hampered and unsuccessful. Now, I know. I do not deserve such retaliation, especially since classroom evaluations have taken place over many years and were conducted by fellow professionals and colleagues. I have in my possession records from professional evaluations, as well as student evaluations.I cannot sit by and I will not allow anyone to destroy the professional career I worked so hard to create.I am requesting an investigation to resolve this matter. Please help me redeem myself !!

Since 2011, I have been a mathematics professor at ************************* (see enclosed CV), and in particular, no longer have any affiliation with ***. Nevertheless, RateMyProfessors.com lists me as a professor at *** and has published a non-constructive review from an anonymous person of my teaching at *** on their website dated **May 11, 2022** ****************************************************** that is defamatory. I reported this error to RateMyProfessors.com on Oct 4th, 2022, and the website administrators ignored my report and continue to allow this very negative review on their website, even though I am no longer affiliated with ***. This inaccurate report obviously damages my academic reputation.

A disgruntled former student of mine at **** posted a false and libelous review of me on ratemyprofessor.com on Dec 20th, 2022, claiming that I never graded their assignments. I am asking that this review be taken down from the website in question. I have emails to the student in question (dated Nov 2nd and Nov 19th, respectively) to the contrary -- I returned their graded work with extensive comments on more than one occasion and spoke to them extensively after class. If need be, I can provide screen shots of time-stamped grades from Canvas/Webcampus to support my claims here. For this reason, I'm formally requesting that the review dated Dec 20th, 2022 be removed immediately. I can accept legitimate criticism from students but this person is not being truthful and has published libelous and defamatory written statements on a public website that are damaging to my professional reputation and have no basis in fact. Why is this particular review libel? I am an untenured Assistant Profesor going up for tenure review in three months. My superiors have indicated that they take class evaluations on sites like RMP seriously. The student in question is knowingly making false public statements claiming that I am an unfit professor. These demonstrably false statements are damaging my career prospects and endangering my livelihood. I insist that they be removed as soon as possible.

Rate Your Professor.com has published multiple defamatory and slanderous remarks about my teaching and character. I am first trying to communicate with them to list my concerns and ask that these remarks be removed, but every link on their website that allows professors to communicate with them does not work. I think this is purposeful on Rate your professor's part. I am asking that you work to help resolve this issue, since there is not way for me to resolve it.

I support free-speech and value sites like rate myprofessor.com. Most sites like this however, make at least some effort to ensure that those rating are validly connected to the entities they are rating. However, I and many other professors in my cohort, have noticed that RMP flagrantly eschews any such prudentcy. Indeed, many recent cases have required this. It is a reasonable assumption that those writing professors should at least list a course that is being taught by those professors. However, in many instances - this is not the case. I have (as have others) noted instances wherein courses are listed that are not taught by me. I have flagged these cases in order to give RMP a fair chance of reviewing them. Each time, RMP has chosen to ignore my concerns and to keep these ratings (for courses I do not teach) up on their site. This provides the basis for litigation.

I am a bioinformatics instructor at ****, and am trying to register my account.
