I've visited the **** College of Optometry around 20 times within the last year for vision therapy. The visits themselves have been great - the doctors are excellent and knowledgeable and the standard of care was solid.The billing department however is an absolute nightmare to work with. To their credit, they did bill me correctly in most cases. The correct bills are submitted to my health insurance under "**** College of Optometry" and process in network.However, the bills for 6/22/22, 10/05/22, and 10/12/22 have been processes as out of network. The combined monetary loss from this mistake is about $540.In an attempt to fix the situation, I've spoken with both my insurance and the billing department at ****. My insurance is very helpful, and they worked hard with me to identify parts of the claim that could be the problem. Their findings were generally that the claims they received were missing an NPI number identifying the doctor, or had the wrong tax id (It would come up as "University Optometric Center", not "Suny College of Optometry")This is where the problems start. Any attempts to communicate these issues to **** college of optometry have been met with brick walls of attitude and negligence. The staff in the billing department operate on the assumption that they can do no wrong, and so are not at all helpful in resolving the issue. They generally tell me that "everything was done correctly", but clearly something is wrong. In an attempt to speed up communication, I've tried directly asking my insurance rep to call the **** billing department. in every case the insurance rep has come back and informed me that they had a terrible experience and that the issue remains unresolved.To this day I have not gotten someone from billing to acknowledge that there may have been a problem and work with me and my insurance in good faith to resolve the problem.
