I hired Hinge Woodworks to install a new ******************* door at the front of my house. I had met the owner/operator in ********** and verbally agreed to have him install the doors. I gave him a deposit of $550 on August 10th, 2022 to start the job. He and his worker arrived on August 12th, 2022 and installed the interior door and the exterior door, but the exterior door did not come with the glass panels and the installation was not complete. He returned on August 13th, 2022 to continue the job and I paid him another $550 on that date. Myself and my husband spoke to him on the 13th, telling him that the interior door didn't seem to be installed correctly - it was extremely hard to open and close. He said it was the door that was the problem - not his installation of it. He installed the glass, but did not finish installing the trim around both doors, and I gave him an additional $50 for other work I wanted done - a total of $1150 cash so far. He was scheduled to return on August 30th, 2022 to install the trim/complete the job. Prior to August 30th, I had two licensed contractors exam his installation and they both say the door is installed improperly - that is why it opens & closes extremely hard/difficult. He did not show up on the 30th, and my husband called him (on the 30th) to ask about finishing the job. He said he has court issues and may be incarcerated for 30 days. My husband asked him for $600 to be returned for not completing the jobs. He said "you're out of your mind!" "I finished the job!". My husband told him we would file a factual complaint, and he said "GO **** ********!". Im are requesting a return of $600 for the improper/unfinished jobs that he is unlicensed (Nassau County) and unqualified to do.
