    I am a patient of Doctor Fred L**** as part of the Olean Medical Group *** **** ****** ***** ** ****** My last visit was August 2, 2023. I am Medicaid and ******* ******* **** recipient. I have full coverage and this provider accepts both insurance full coverage. It is against the law to bill a Medicaid recipient. Balanced billing is against the law. I have been going to this provider since 1990. I keep getting a balance bill for the visit to Doctor L**** August 2, 2023. I have called the insurance and they say I do not owe anything. The first few bills wanted me to pay $73.50, now they are asking for the whole amount, the bills clearly showed that Medicaid and ******* paid these bills. I called the office there at Olean Medical Group and they told me it was a billing error and it would be corrected in their system. It has not been corrected as I keep getting bills. I want this to stop. It is causing me emotional distress. I will be contacting the Attorney General next and if this continues, I will be suing this provider for emotional distress. This matter has also been reported as Medicaid fraud.

    We have looked into this situation and it seems to have been some issues with the billing system and the insurance carrier.  We first received payment from the insurance and then they retracted the visit payment thus generating the balance to go to patient responsibility in which should have never happened as we know that we are not allowed to balance bill Medicaid recipients.  The claim has since been satisfied by insurance and the remaining balance has been written off of our system therefore the patient will not receive another statement and agree, they should not have received a bill in the first place.  This has not been done in a fraudulent way, it was an error and have the tracking to show where the insurance carrier made the payment and then retracted it.   We do not have any record in our system of the patient calling our office to have this corrected and we are very diligent on documenting patient communications.  We have reached out to the patient directly to apologize, explain and discuss further as well.  Please let me know if there is any additional information needed at this time. Thank you, Chris S***** CEO, Olean Medical Group
