On June 27th, 2022, my husband and I applied for a home equity loan through the summit Federal credit Union. On June 29th, six documents were requested from us via email from a loan officer named Kevin C*****. Those documents were gathered and returned on July 11th, 2022. Kevin, confirmed receipt of them via email. On August 6th I sent an email to the email. I had prior communications with Kevin on requesting an update on our loan. I never received a response. On August 26th I phoned Mr. C***** and left a message at 8:50am . I did not receive a return call resulting from that message. On August 28th I completed a contact me form on the summit Federal credit Union's website requesting assistance because I was not getting any return contact from Kevin C*****. I then received an email the following day from Keith T******* stating I would receive a call that morning. At about 2:00 p.m. I responded to Mr. T******* explaining I had yet to be contacted. Mr. C***** called me at 3:20 p.m on that afternoon. During that phone call he explained my loan was approved and ready to close except I had to open a summit account via their website. After requesting to open an account online I was given a message that a member services representative would contact me. I phoned member services the following morning, August 30th to follow up on the online application to open an account. I was told my application was declined. The rap explained she would have Mr. C***** contact me as I could not open an account which in turn meant I could not open a loan. Mr. C***** called later that day and proceeded to tell me my loan was now denied due to having a $2,000 charge off approximately 7 years ago. Mr. C***** was very short and unpleasant on this call. I proceeded to end the call. I phoned Mr. T******* who is the director of the mortgage department following the conversation with Mr. C***** and have also not heard back from. I strongly believe Mr. C***** was trying to cover up a mistake he made

      Good morning,

I do have a charge off with the Summit Federal Credit Union. The bankruptcy that included this charge off is on my credit report which the bank had access to from June 27th onward. The bank knew about the bankruptcy due to requesting me to write a statement about why I filed for it. Saying they did not know about it until I applied to be a member of their bank seems untrue, as they had full access to my credit report for 2 months prior to telling me they can't work with me due to a charge off. The bank had terrible communication until I worked up the chain of command. There is also a regulation in banking from ECOA that states after all information is obtained that a creditor uses to make a determination. They have 30 days to notify the applicant of their decision. Mr. C***** failed to return my call made within the 30-day time frame as all requested documentation was given to him on July 11th. The Summit also failed to follow this regulation as I was told on August 26th my loan was approved and then the next day told it was declined. Regardless, this decision was made well out of the 30-day time frame set by the equal credit opportunity act.

I have no bank accounts with Summit other than a car loan. I've had this loan for about 6 months with no issues till this month. They want me to sign in to my bank using a 3rd party service, including giving them security questions and answers. I just want to make my payments online as I have in the past. It's truly the hardest payment I've ever had to make, they make nothing easy.

I’ve been banking with SFCU since I was 16 and I’m now 23. The loyalty I’ve had to this bank doesn’t seem to matter now that I’m unemployed due to contracting COVID. I’m consistently hit with predatory fees, even after opting out of courtesy fees. There are fees posted to my account for bills that are in no way attached to my checking account and have already been paid for using a separate account. Yet, I’m still expected to pay. I tried putting my account on hold, but was told I need to visit a location to do that. My account was put on hold in the past without my consent so I don’t see why I’m expected to handle this in person during the pandemic. I don’t appreciate the way I’ve been treated. This bank has taken so much money from me during the most difficult financial period of my life. I do not recommend this business to anyone whatsoever.
