Wegmans reached out to our customer for more details which we in turn shared with our supplier.  At this time, we are waiting for our supplier to conclude their research into what happened.  Wegmans will be back in touch with our customer once that is complete.

October 7, 2021 was the date of incident. On the morning of 10/7/21, my mother went to the cafe department on the wegmans located on west ridge road rochester ny, between hours 10-11am. The older lady employee working the cafe was rude and disrespectful towards my mother because the employee claimed she didn’t understand my mothers breakfast order. The employee began getting loud and demanding my mother to remove her mask so she can understand her. This employee not only violated safety protocols she also humiliated my mother (who is 62 years old) by yelling at her and telling her she didn’t understand her accent. I don’t believe this employee should be working at any wegmans as she is rude and disrespectful. I would like some sort of resolution on this matter. This employee needs further customer service training on how to treat customers who speak English as a second language and on the covid safety protocols. Or this employee needs to be fired.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

The business, Wegmans, never called me or spoke to me about this matter.

Thursday, 9/9/21 they place a hold on my bank card for $150.00 for an online pickup order I placed. The bill was only $128.63 and that said $128.63 CLEARED the bank card on Friday, 9/10/21. This is Wednesday, 9/15/21 and the $150 hold is still on there which is resulting in my electric bill payment being declined (a/k/a: power being shut off and full amount will be due at once and I lose my payment plan arrangement from Covid). How is it legal to be holding people's money "hostage" when the actual bill has already been PAID IN FULL Last Week!

      Business response

      10/18/2021

This is in response to our customer's concern about the pending charge remaining on her credit card account after her online order had been placed.  We reached out to her to explain the charge will be dropped by her bank; not Wegmans.  Further explained that banks follow their own schedules as to the timing of when those charges drop.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

They had the Hold IN ADDITION TO the full cost of the order.  When the order is closed, the hold is to be replaced with the actual order total being charged, but they DO NOT DO THIS.  I've been over this with my credit union and it is NOT a problem on their end, they only follow the date set forth by the company you purchased from.

Wegmans followed up with customer and provided more detailed transaction information including the authorization codes for the transactions that customer can use to follow up with her financial institution.

We confirmed with our finance office that Wegmans had not had access to the funds customer is referencing since the evening of 9/9/2021.  (It can take between 5-7 business days for a bank to process and release a hold.)

We hope this additional explanation and information was helpful in resolving our customer's concern.
