I had to deal with a blow out on a tire on my car, obviously leaving me in need of a tow. I have a package of roadside assistance through the company I financed my wheels and tires through. I called and the process led to interstate northeast towing being the ones to handle to tow. When they arrived they loaded the car and brought it to the body shop I requested in schodak NY. The following morning I returned to my vehicle to change out my damaged wheels with spares. This led me to find my front driver side fender dented, jacked back to the door and paint rubbed off from where the driver placed there strap over my fender. I called first thing the next morning and was asked for pictures in email. Once I sent the pictures I received no communication back. I called and was told the gentleman to deal with would get back to me. He never did. I called again and was told he wasn't in the office. I waited another day after that to allow him to return to work. Still no contact so I reached out again and was met with more excuses. After a week and a half of being dodged I finally spoke with Chad who basically wanted me to handle things the way he wanted me to. I have no interest in going to the body shop they wanted me to, so Chad proceeded to get noticably aggravated with me because I wanted the repairs done at a facility I trust. If I go through insurance I would get my car fixed where I wanted anyways, since insurance steering is illegal. Chad then told me he was going to have a GM contact me and I still heard nothing back. 3 days later I have not heard from anyone and when I call I am still told these people aren't in the office or they will get back to me. At this point I have no other choice to feel as if this business is trying to dodge me and the consequences of the damage they caused. Very poor way to take accountability and handle things professionally.Business Response

We were contracted to tow a 2015 ********** ***** off the side of I90, Albany, NY for a break down.We used a flatbed, which we use 8 point wheel tie down straps on. The straps wrap around the wheel/tire and secure to the front and back of each wheel. There is, in my opinion, no way possible to dent inwards the left front fender of the vehicle due to the aftermarket wheels and tires on it stick out past the fender area a lot.. Upon attempting to explain this to the customer, the customer was admit that we did the damage. Upon looking at our photos that our driver took a long the highway and at the drop off, the fender that is damaged has road dirt all over the vehicle including the damaged area. If we did the damage, there would be clean areas where the owner is stating we did the damage too and unfortunately there is not any until the customer wiped it off the next day in his own photos he submitted to you. The owner of this vehicle also told our office that he works at the shop it was towed to, Schodack Auto body.Customer Answer

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. Regards, ***** ****** I have photos of my car two days prior to the incident happening. Just because I work at the location the vehicle was dropped off at doesn't mean that is the specific shop I want my car taken care of through, nor did I say that would be the case. That's not okay through insurance so why would I want to do it? I very simply want a tech and painter that I trust touching my car. If I were to go through insurance I would have my car done at the shop I choose anyways due to insurance steering being illegal. The company wanted me to get the work done at a shop they work with. The one person I delt with told me they have a deal with that shop. Which means they will get the cheapest price out of taking care of my car and then leave me fighting with the body shop to make sure everything is correct and done right. Since he could not give me any sort of guarantee of parts and things being used. My car was covered with a thin layer of dust which yes, I wiped away to take a clear photo of the area. Where the strap had been placed over my fender, the pressure of that would be pulling inwards to hold the vehicle. The pressure of the car bouncing on the flat bed would be enough to also cause the strap to pull up as well. This causing the fender to be pulled up and back the way it is. There are clear spots where the strap rubbed onto my paint from where it was placed. It is also very clear in my photos that my wheels do not stick out past my fenders, so that would not have been the case causing this. The only reason in photos the wheel sticks out past the lower section of the fender is because that's how far the fender was jack inwards with this damage.Business Response

We did not cause the damage and have attached 2 photos, 1 is ours from the drop off location taken by our driver and the other is from the customer the next day. As our photo shows no damage to this area that the customer found the next day. Again the customer was with our driver at the pick up location, rode in the flatbed to the shop and followed our driver around his vehicle as he was taking photos and nothing was mentioned to our driver.Customer Answer

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. Regards, ***** ****** Since you're claiming you didn't cause the damage then explain to me the marked area in the attached picture of your photo. The red is were the damage clearly is. The purple arrow points right to the dent ripples that you can clearly see by the dark lines. The green arrow is pointing to were my fender liner is pointing out from the fender being pulled in away from it. The red arrow shows were the lower section of the fender is no longer flush with the rocker panel as it should be. In your own photos the damage is clearly there. Since you want to handle business this way I will be contacting and putting this through my insurance to pursue yours.Initial Complaint

I called a towing company and was quoted a price of $200 for a tow. I was stranded on Highway 146, which was a dangerous spot. However, when I arrived, they charged me $243 for the tow. I only had $50 at the time, but I allowed them to hold my vehicle in storage for $40 per day. The next day, I went to pay the $200 balance, but even though the company was open 24 hours, I was told that I could only retrieve my car until 4 pm. If I couldn't make it by 4 pm that day, I had to schedule an appointment for Monday. I scheduled the appointment for 12 noon. Unfortunately, I couldn't make it to the appointment because I didn't have a car. So, I asked the company how much it would cost to pick up my car on Monday. They said it would be $40 per day, and I was quoted $280. Since I had an offer to sell my car for $350 on Monday, I offered to sell it to the towing company for a lower price on that day. However, they refused. I had to reschedule the appointment for Monday. But, because I refused to sell my car to them for $200, I was now being charged $93 per day for storage. I called the company shady and started recording the telephone call. The representative then tried to bully me into accepting the $200 offer. He said that I was going through a lot of trouble for the $75 I stood to earn from the sale of my vehicle on Monday. I've never before experienced a situation where a business would quote me one price, then charge me double that amount later. This was an outright criminal act of theft of property. If I had known about the storage fees, I would not have let them store my vehicle and would have asked to be dropped off somewhere safe. I paid them $43 for the trouble of coming out, and they stored my vehicle under false pretenses. I was vulnerable at midnight on the side of Highway 146A in Clifton Park, NY, and I feel like I was taken advantage of.Business Response

We were called to tow his vehicle. The tow charge is $243. He was made aware of this before any services were performed. However, he only had $43 on him at the time. So we towed the vehicle and told him we will release it back to him when the remaining $200 was paid. We impounded the vehicle until we received the remaining balance owed. He did stop in the office and speak to the office manager. He indicated to our office manager that he was going to be getting rid of the vehicle anyways. So, as a gesture of goodwill our office manager offered him a deal. The offer was that he would pay the remaining $200 owed from the tow that we already did and if he wanted to sign his title over to us, then we would take care of getting rid of it for him and release him from owing us for the storage fees. However, he declined this offer. So at this point he still owes the remaining $200 from the tow and his vehicle is incurring storage fees as well that are now owed. Thank you.Customer Answer

Here’s proof: what I was told and what I was charged. Further, I posted a review and their response copies and paste “my truth” in their response. However my attached truth is proof of what I was told there isn’t what they say here. To show you the disrespect, this business would be as bold as to tell the BBB the truth you told me when I agreed to let you store my car, but change your story to the correct one and think the BBB won’t know it. You blatently lied to me. Now you have blatently lie to the BBB. Below is my ****** review of this business: I called this company and was quoted a price of $243 for a tow. I was stranded on Highway 146A in a dark and very dangerous spot. I only had $50 at the time, so I allowed them to hold my vehicle in storage the next 24 hours was Saturday for $40 per day. Later that day at 3:30 pm, I went to pay the $200 balance; even though it's a 24-hour business, I was told that I could only get my car until 4 pm. If I couldn't make it by 4 pm that Friday, I had to schedule an appointment for Monday. So I asked again how much it cost to pick up my car on Monday $40 per day, and was quoted $280. Since I had an offer to sell my car for $350 on Monday, I asked if it wanted to purchase my car for a lower price price Friday. And they refused. So I scheduled to pick up my car Monday at noon. However, because I refused to give them my car for $200, I was now being charged $93 per day for storage. I called them shady and started recording the telephone call. The man then tried to bully me into giving my car away to them for $200 if I couldn't get there before 4 pm; And then said “I was going through a lot of trouble” for the $75 I stood to earn from selling of my vehicle on Monday. They told me $40 to store my car then changed the price to $93 when I wouldn't give away my car to them for $200. I've never experienced a situation where a business had the audacity to change the amount more than double, mid-sentence, to intimidate a customer and ultimately to steal their car while you are most vulnerable. DO NOT USE THESE CROOKS. I filed a detailed complaint with the BBB and will tell 1000 others what this company did to me. This was an outright criminal act, a theft of property by deceit, and a financial assault throu a severe abusively shocking business practice to the most vulnerable stranded with car troubles. I repeat, don't use these crooks for anything! They should not be in business. If it happened to me who knows how many others? They took my car without writing; then, with my car in possession, changed the price of storage to steal it from me. The rims and tires on my car alone are worth over $500. I never had agreed for them to take my car at $93 dollars a day to 4 pm that Friday, closed weekends. I was led to believe it was open 24 hours. They knew exactly what they were doing. It's an old playbook. Steal car by changing the storage fee. Here’s how it goes: don't tell customers we close at 4 on a Friday, lead them to believe you can pick their vehicle anytime we're open 24 hours, don't give them any writing, say storage is $40 a day, once you have their car in your possession, change the storage fee price to 93, closed on weekends, price shoots up, customer can't pay double what was quoted plus repairs—car stolen. "Hahaha… works like a charm every time stupid customer dummies.” Do not use this place it took my car under false pretenses. I was vulnerable after midnight on side of a dark Highway in Clifton Park then stole it from me. I tried to file a police report for theft. It was an unauthorized taking of my car if I was lied to, and without proof, the police should have helped. Shady. Look quoted $243 paid $43 owed $200 Friday. Storage fees 2 days Saturday and Sunday $40. Quoted 280. Got a sale for 350. Offered to sell the car to the company for $100 profit Friday. Refused. The cost to get my car went up from $280 on Monday to almost $700 look at this garbage! When I asked, “Where did I get $280 from”? They told me “The driver said,.. you were never quoted a price” and “They don't know where I got my number from”. Oh, I’m an idiot and would let a towing company take and store my car without a price. I was born on a Tuesday but not last Tuesday. If that’s not bad enough, they refused to give me back my house keys and garage door opener misplaced inside their junky tow cab! I took my keys out to give them the key to the vehicle. They lied claiming keys were inside my car and wouldn’t return them unless I signed the title to the car them. Shady shady. The worst. Don’t use this company for ANYTHING!!!!! End. As you can see from the above, this business is now saying as I am, and the attached shows otherwise.Initial Complaint

On August 11th my vehicle broke down (serpentine belt came off the pullies causing multiple items to seize or missfire, leading to a tow being required). Upon entering a roadside assistance order through my insurance provider ************ ****) this company was assigned for my tow. After waiting close to 2 hours the tow truck arrives and the driver connects my truck to the tow vehicle by winching the back end. After doing so the driver attempts to turn the steering wheel and I explained that the steering was seized up, while he continued to crank and try to turn the steering wheel harder. Shortly after cranking on my steering wheel you hear a "pop, bang" and now the steering wheel is freely turning (the driver broke my steering linkage off the steering box). After doing so he moves the tow truck and hooks my truck up from the front (which he should've done when he realized the steering was seized, not continue to crank the wheel). I received a call from Scott, the boss, and he explained they will not be covering the cost of the damage to my truck caused by his driver. Scott stated "it had to have been a pre-existing issue" and "no matter what I say he will not be giving the answer I am looking for". The customer service and complete rude, pompous attitude by Scott was so unprofessional and infuriating. I don't feel I should be financially responsible for damage done to my vehicle by his company after I had explained to the tow driver that what he was doing was a part of the issue, he just ignored me and continued to crank on the wheel until something gave instead of readjusting his truck (which clearly was an option because once he broke my vehicle that's exactly what he did). I spoke to my mechanic, who also does towing and his opinion is that that repair should be covered by the tow company as they broke the part and will be estimating that repair separately as I should not be responsible for another companies negligence and extremely poor customer service.Business Response

To whom it may concern: I am writing in response to consumer complaint file #**********M1,filed with the NYS Attorney GeneralOffice. I am Scott G*****, manager here at Interstate Northeast Inc. We were contracted to tow said 1994 ********* *****, black in color with over size aftermarket wheels and tires and aftermarket steering wheel installed, vin******************, NYS plate# ******* forCaroline Kearney thru her insurance for a mechanical break down issue. The vehicle was in a parking lotlocated at *** ********** *** ************ ** *****, The Costumer and was to be towed to ****** ***** *** ***** *** ************ ** ****** When sent a wrecker to tow this vehicle since it is a small parking lot and very busy businessand typically a flatbed will not fit very well in this parking lot due to vehicles in the lot. Our driverbacked the wrecker up to the rear end of this vehicle and used the wrecker to secure the rearwheels. When our driver attempted to turn the steering wheel so the front tires were straight, therag joint on the steering shaft broke. It is physically impossible to damage or break this part byturning the steering wheel by hand even if there is no power steering. The part wears out andhad to have been a previous issue for this customer, even if she does not want to admit to it.Again, a human can not break this part, it is a normal wear item. The customer also attempted to sell this vehicle to our driver for $1,000.00 but he declined theoffer since he had previously purchased a newer ***** pickup in better condition for $800.00he informed her. Customer boyfriend showed up, our driver showed him what had happenedand he also agreed yes the part broke and this was nothing we did wrong. Our driver stated tothe customer at least it happened in a parking lot and not while driving the vehicle down theroad. He towed it to the repair shop, ******** **** *******, and dropped it where they asked.I called the customer a day later, very upset with us that we, According to her, broke the ragjoint due to turning the steering wheel. I attempted several times to advise her that it isimpossible for us to break it, that the part failed due to age and it is a wear and tear and old ageissue on the vehicle. I also stated to her that she was very lucky that it broke in the parking lotand not while she or someone was driving the vehicle down the road and having it break onthem because that could have possibly injured someone or killed someone due to having noability to steer the vehicle. The customer did not like that fact when I stated it to her, she alsocalled myself and our driver some inappropriate words on the phone several times during ourconversation and ultimately hung up the phone on me . She is absolutely upset that the 1994***** ********* had something else break and is blaming us for it being an older vehicle withissues but refuses to listen to anything I had to say. She is a very rude and disrespectful personto us. This customer is claiming she advised our driver the steering was seized due to the belt beingoff but unfortunately she did not and that is not able to happen, it will only make the steeringhard as it has no power steering assist. This customer is also claiming I personally went to ****** **** on August 12th to harass themechanic there, but in fact I did not go there or even call there about this customer period. Thank you, Scott G*****, manage
