On 03/23/2023 I visited the salon to get my hair dyed, I had only visited her salon once and it was for a hair blow out. At some point while she had product on my hair I told her that my scalp felt like it was burning. I had done this many times before and felt itch but never burning sensation. She proceeded to add another liquid to the dye mix she was applying to me. Since she started at the bottom of my head that is where I felt the burn, and after she added the liquid, by the time she got to the top of my head I no longer felt any burning on my scalp, however the bottom part was very sensitive. As she was styling my hair with a comb I told her to be careful since it hurt. My mom who knows about hair dying told me the bleach process was very unnecessary since my hair was already light (orangy) and didnt need to use bleach. My mom asked if she did the skin test and which she didnt. At no point did she ask if I felt any discomfort before applying any the full product. My mom said she should have done a skin test since I was knew to her salon.Upon check out, she told me it would be $410 but never told me there would be a charge of $16.40 to use a card. So I paid $426.40 all together. When I got home I realized that my scalp had red watery patches all around the bottom area. I had to sleep facing down to avoid the irritated area. When I woke up my hair had like glued to my scalp. I showed my mom and husband and they realized I had chemical *****. I then went to the salon and showed her. She tried to say that I must have scratched myself, but I told her I wouldnt do that. She offered to wash my hair but I told her I wanted to see a Doctor. My husband contacted her shortly after my departure. I went to the nearest urgent care where a Dr confirmed I had chemical ***** all over the bottom half of my scalp. The Dr **** me to put antibacterial ointment and prescribed antibiotics. Even though I breastfeed he told me to use them to avoid infection on the *****

      04/27/2023

On the afternoon of 3/22/23, ************************ came to Stephane's Beauty salon for a hair color change. During the consultation I noticed that her hair was very orange, and *** **** stated that she wanted to get rid of the orange pigmentation. I showed her the color book and she proceeded to choose the color she has now, when she picked the color she desired I advised her that for her to obtain that color, I needed to proceed and bleach her hair, she told me that it was fine because she really wants to get an ash color.  I asked her how long ago she gave herself hair dyed, and she told me 3 months and I asked her if she was allergic to any product, and she told me not at all. Then I started to prepare the hair dyed, by applying 2 ampoules at a cost of $15 each, with her consent, I proceeded to apply it on her, and when the discoloration was completed, I removed and washed everything off with plenty of water and conditioner. Then, I proceeded to blow dry her hair and applied the hair color she asked for and desired. During the hair dye process there were no complaints or any complications involved. When I washed her hair to finish, I applied a deep hair mask with oils to moisture her hair for a cost of $20, which I got her consent for, then I brushed her hair and at no time did she tell me that her scalp was hurting. She stated that she was very happy because she always wanted the hair color. And I usually take before and after pictures for all my clients but in her case, she didnt want any pictures, so I advised her that her face wont come out, it's just her hair. But during that time her mother was there with her, she stated what an awesome job I have done, and both were very happy. During the check out time, I advised her to purchase a hair treatment to have at home for $35, and she said yes. During check out I advised her that the cost of the hair bleach plus hair coloring was $320 + $35 ( hair product) + $30 (hair ampoules) + $25 (deep conditioning) = $410, and since she was paying with a card, I told her that taxes were going to be added to the card which equal a total amount of $426.40, on which she was very satisfied and proceeded with the payment.

The next day, 3/23/23, during the morning, I noticed that she was back at the hair salon, stating that her husband was very angry that she spent a lot of money on her hair. And then she stated that the hair coloring burned her scalp, and I advised her if I could check her scalp she didnt want me to proceed to check, and I asked her again for me to check but all she kept telling me was that her husband was very mad at her for spending so much money; So, I offer her a deep conditioning and a complimentary hair blow dry for client satisfaction , and she told me that she needed to call her husband first. Both were talking and she decided that she was going to leave. Few minutes later I received a call from her husband, and he started to threaten me, stating that he wants his money back, that if I dont give him his money, he was going to call the city and report me, and that I was going to hear from him very soon.

Now reviewing *** ****** complain she is stating that she ended up going to an urgent the same day that she came in to the hair salon and i was not able to proceed checking her scalp, and at the urgent care she was diagnosed with chemical ***** on her scalp, on which I believe if that was the case that *** **** was diagnosed with chemical *****, and as of my 35yrs of experienced as a Hairdresser and satisfying my customers, I will like to see an original documentation of proof of chemical ***** on her scalp as a diagnosed from the Doctor. If proof is provided to me, then I will consider refunding a percentage amount from the total, since products were purchased on the actual total amount and probably used at this point, as well as hair coloring, time and effort. In order to proceed with the settlement proposed,  Im requesting proof of the Urgent Cares visit with date and diagnosis code of chemical ***** on the scalp.

And also to address ************** concern about applying antibiotics on her scalp while breastfeeding, there is no sort of absorption of these products into the breast milk; She should be more careful on proceeding on applying hair dyed or doing any hair coloring since chemicals are at a higher risk of entering the bloodstream through breast milk. In order to complete and close this complaint further proof is required as previously requested.

      Thanks for your time.

      Sincerely,

*****************************, Manager of Stephane's Beauty Salon

      Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# ********, and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

I want a Full reimbursement. I cannot pay someone who was careless and caused me pain.

I Explicitly told the hairstylist, which she told me to call her *********, Im not sure if thats her real that, that I felt a burning, to which she proceeded to add an additional vial of a product to the mixture she was applying on me. Her colleague, a tall gentleman with dark hair, was near by when I said I felt burning and he tried to reassure me by saying it was part of the process and that it will go away. After ********* washed and began combing my hair to blow drying it, the teeth of the comb was touching my head and it hurt. I told her to be gentle because it was already delicate and hurt. Hence, I told her Twice I was feeling discomfort. As I wrote before, *** felt itch while getting my hair dyed in the last but never Burning. I trusted her, therefore I didnt think it caused wounds on my scalp, until the night when I couldnt sleep because my scalp hurt and started oozing.

I felt extremely upset because of the physical damage and the fact that I had an uneven hair color. My mom mentioned I had yellow patches to ********* but she didnt say anything about it. My mom pointed it out but since we were still in the salon I couldnt see it very well. I was just happy to have that orange color taken out.

Lastly, the following morning when I went to the salon I saw her working on a client so I asked her to go to the back of the salon. I told her I had wounds on the back of my head and proceeded to show **************;the several affected areas. She said it was nothing, offered to wash my hair, and then ********* took pictures of my scalp with her phone. I declined the offer as I wasnt exactly sure what caused the lesions and didnt want to expose the wounds to products/chemicals  which could exacerbate my condition.

Evidently, the doctor confirmed I had chemical *****. I attached the medical visit diagnosis.

      Sincerely,

      *******************
