I am a renter at Glamorgan apartments in Alliance, OH through the University of Mount Union. They raised my rent this month with no notice. It says in my lease, " housing rates are set annually by the Business Office and may change from year to year." My lease started in August, so I have not yet lived in the apartment a year. I did talk to housing and they will not work with me even though they did admit that my rent was raised without notice and the lease is worded in a way that suggests my rent should not be raised until August.

The housing office was using new rates set for the upcoming academic year for the rate that was being charged in May. Most of the students who move in are in the May to April lease schedule. After talking with housing, they confirmed that they are telling students that the price is for one year. Since they told the students that the price is for a year, it will remain the same until the end of the one year lease agreement, then it will be a month to month lease at the current price. Any student who was charged an increase and has a lease that isn't at one year or more, will be refunded the difference.
