- Additional Info:In September 2023, Better Business Bureau Serving Greater Cleveland (BBB) received a sudden influx of consumer complaints from landowners who entered into home-building contracts with Cleveland Custom Homes. The consumers allege that they have paid large sums of money for residences where construction was started but never finished. Additionally, consumers told BBB that Cleveland Custom Homes, who was acting as a general contractor, never paid subcontractors. As a result, many of these consumers had liens on their properties. BBB was able to locate active Mechanics Liens in Cuyahoga and Lorain Counties. On September 12, BBB staff spoke to Jeffrey Crawford and received clarification on his business. At this time, Mr. Crawford also indicated that he wished to respond to consumer complaints. BBB staff then emailed information regarding the complaints. Those emails were opened by the business but the complaints were never answered. BBB staff researched Cleveland Custom Homes and discovered that “Cleveland Custom Homes,” “Cleveland Custom Home Builders,” “Cleveland Custom Homes Design Build LLC,” and “Cleveland Custom Home Company” are all listed as active businesses with the Ohio Secretary of State. Consumers with outstanding concerns are still encouraged to file a complaint for BBB records but may wish to contact legal counsel or the Ohio Attorney General.
