Don't go with the overdraft protection plan. I got screwed over twice. They say they give you 24 hours to correct your account but that's not true. They transfer your money over from the plan so you are not getting the overdraft fee.Review from Anthony R

Was forced to take an auto loan w/ Fifth Third because car dealership had a preferred relationship with this bank and refused to allow any other financing option. Both the dealership and Fifth Third were very deceptive about loan terms, particularly loan interest rate and length - I received an atrociously high interest rate from Fifth Third despite having a near perfect credit score. After reading reviews of other customers, a few bad experiences with their customer service department, and a gut feeling of shady business practices going on, I refinanced with a different bank within three weeks of getting the car. The reviews on their customer service are accurate - multiple, outsourced representatives will bounce your call around and not answer anything. The minute I told them I was refinancing to a different bank, the loan department hung up on me. Avoid this bank at all costs.Review from Tracy U

Terrible customer service and only helpful if you beg. I have an auto loan through this bank (not by choice). I moved to a different state and needed to transfer the title & registration. No one would respond to my requests for help. finally someone did, and she was quite lovely however, the copy of the title and certified letter she emailed me were not accepted by the *** in my current state. I sent her an email back alerting her of the issue and what was needed to rectify the issue, but never received a response. Of course, I cannot talk to anyone at the ***. Today, I actually had a day off to call. I spoke with someone else, who was also quite nice, but she informed me that after the first customer service rep responded to my email, my inquiry was closed. She asked me if I was aware the *** in my new state required an original title. are you kidding me? why would the *** accept a copy of a title and a copy of a notarized form? They can't, that's why. This is the absolute worst bank. Now, I have a large property tax bill from my previous state on the vehicle because this bank did not respond and closed my inquiry after their work was "done". I also cannot get monthly statements for my loan from my online account and I've never received a paper statement. That seems quite unethical to me.Review from andrew p

If I could give zero stars, I would. This bank lies, hides failure on their part, incorrectly reports to the credit bureaus. Do not bank with them.Review from Sam S

We had a very deceptive representative go over our paperwork for a Solar Loan with Dividened, a Fifth Third subsidiary, and almost nothing is as we were told, and there are lots of hidden fine print fees which were flatly told weren't there. We only accepted the solar and the loan on terms that don't actually match the fine print that contradicts earlier points that do match what we talked about and requested. AVOID.Review from Michelle L

I bank with 53rd and never any issues at the branch level. I received a check from the US Treasury Department for back pay on a Veterans disability claim. I went online and reviewed the deposit policy regarding large deposits on the 53rd website, Must be by teller and funds available next day depending on time of deposit. 6/17 Done. Next day 6/18 I go to access my online account and I can’t get in. I panic thinking my account was hacked. I place call to local branch and I’m advised there’s a note on my account for me to speak to a different department. I’m transferred and a woman asks me to verify my information then promptly advises me that my account is to be shut down in 30 days for fraud and she works in the fraud detection department. I am confused and of course I question what she is talking about fraud. She says the check. Where did you get it? I say it was mailed to me from the VA. She asks why did they mail you a check? I replied because of my disability claim. She asked why did I apply for this disability claim? I said because I was raped twice while serving in the Air Force. She says oh do you have proof of this? I’m upset and feel violated by her questioning in her broken English. She says bring all my proof of everything to the nearest branch. I arrive at the branch and give the proof. The young male teller is visibly uncomfortable with what he is reading and says she told you to bring this.He places a phone call and helped by “Adrienne” who works with him to collect only what was needed out of the paperwork and then had me send screenshots from my phone to his work email to forward to her. Done. No. My direct deposit paycheck goes into my account and I can’t have access. Several more calls about getting access to my pay to no avail. 6/19 holiday. 6/20 more calls. 6/21 more calls and docs sent to Bernadette a FDD supvsr promises VA SW a call w/resolution by eod. No call. I can’t buy food, gas, pay bills. My paycheck goes into my account every 2 weeks.Review from D_ P

The Mokena, IL location currently has a manager named ARMANDO S**** ** ******** who makes every effort to antagonize customers struggling to deal with the asinine procedures. He passively-aggressively engages with customers with whom he is conspicuously not serving - particularly women. Upon being escalated to him from a teller, he simply confirms what has already been shared by the tellers with no sense of authority or autonomy as the branch's manager. I had to ask and then offer remedies to my concerns as if I worked there. Since that encounter in April,2024, I have had issues with my accounts and any time I go to this location for service, I make sure to work with anyone other than him(even if I have to let others go before me), and yet, he makes sure to meander over to any other employee assisting me. I have requested for him to refrain from speaking with me, and yet, he continues. While this kind of passive-aggressive behavior indicates his personal low value and should not serve as a reflection of Fifth Third or this branch, which I have patronized for years prior to his arrival with not issue, it has. Moreover, it has affected patronage at the location and the banking institution as I tell all of my clients who are looking for a banking home to steer clear of Fifth Third.Review from Maday P

I unfortunately opened a business account with fifth third ( WORSE MISTAKE EVER) I have deposited checks of all amounts since opening the account without a check ever bouncing back or being reported as fraud. I was able to access the check in question ($12,000.00 dollars) the following business day. Took out half the check to pay employees. Following day I checked my account and was over -$6000 in the negative. They decided to hold the check after a full 24 hours of access to it. I called to find out why my checks keep getting 2 week holds. I got a bogus excuse that the person has had checks bounce (another business in the same field as me hired me to do the job) I know that was a lie, I’ve worked with them before. The following day, now the third day of the check being deposited. My whole account was frozen, and I’m being suspected of fraud. I provided all supporting documents for the check in question. INCLUDING ASKING FOR A BANK STATEMENT FROM MY CLIENT, which is absolutely absurd and unethical at this point for a business to need to bother a client. Now they keep on pushing further, creating false employees and saying that spoke to an accountant (he doesn’t have any accountant, it’s a small GC) and that they never authorized that check (*** the owner wrote the check in front of me) and I can’t even buy materials for my next projects because they have all my money frozen which equates to over $8,000 dollars in that account. They threaten that they are going to close my account, every time I ask them about the money in my account they backtrack and say to give them a day. Then another day, and another. Never, EVER banking with this bank again. I have never dealt with so much unprofessionalism and incompetence in my life. Once this gets resolved, my business will be banking else where. Since I guess a roofing business can’t make $12,000+ on project.
