I made the mistake of investing over $100000 with them via my IRA in a 3 year annuity. For the first 2 years I made the maximum withdrawal from the account because interest rates had risen dramatically. They would only issue paper checks via snail mail and it took over a month to receive my funds each time. I can't help but feel they purposly slow walked my withdrawls to keep making money on my funds. When I finally closed my account the moved up to the 1990's and did an electronic transfer, but it still took them over a month, there was no reason for this kind of delay in 2025! The previous withdrawals also required snail mail forms and acceptance. This might be a financially stable company, but they have a lot to improve with customer service!

My husband passed 2/1/25. He has had a police with Western Southern Life since he was little plus the life insurance we took out when we got married. I went online and filed a death claim on 2/5/25 with the headquarters. I also called my local office at *** ************ **** **** **., Kingsport, TN. Not only did my husband have 2 life insurance policies, myself and our 3 adult children have policies. So when I went to the local office, the receptionist had me fill out forms to change ownership and beneficiaries on my policy and my children. I took the original death certificate to the local office and the receptionist made a copy. She told me she would send it to the main office. I have been out there many times since and called. The receptionist had me fill out the forms wrong on my policy and my children’s so that was another trip. Also I had filled out a form to change our daughter’s policy to her married name. Got info in the mail and the name was still her maiden name! I asked again then on 2/21/25 when I would get the death benefits. The receptionist said 10-14 days. On 2/28/25 I called again and spoke to Kim (not receptionist). She told me they were still waiting on the death certificate. I told her I had already given that to them. I waited until the 3rd of March and asked again. It has just kept going on. My husband has been gone 6 weeks now. I went back out to the office 3/14/25. The receptionist called the home office. She told me they were just behind in processing. So I contacted the claims department at the home office myself when I got home. Mason in claims told me they had just been sent the information that day! So which lie is it. I am due $124,000+. I need that money. They have all the info so why can’t they process the claim? Is it they hold that money as long as they can to make more interest off of the money? Never buy life insurance from this company! I am stuck - too old to get new policy now.

I have three death claims in a trust, the two with ******** were processed promptly within two weeks. It's going on almost two months and Western & Southern Life still hasn't processed the claim, and now will not let me talk to the claims, legal, or trust depts. They will not give any updates and are mostly rude on the phone. As trustee this is by far the worst company I have dealt with. They have lost documents sent by certified mail, given incorrect advice, and have a legal dept. that can't even adjudicate a simple trust I would describe them as uncaring, willfully negligent, and incompetent.

Worst company I have dealt with closing annuity acct. Three errors were made. I shared account with another family member and each year we each got a check. At closing I was told only one check could be sent. 3 months later, I got a letter stating I need to send half money back due their error over payment to me. I had already given half to my family member and they had already spent it. At this time, I was told the company would fix it. 1099 came and it states I was paid MORE money than was in the even in the account! Upon my call, the company did resolve the issue ASAP, but it was very stressful, unable to sleep and a lot and unnecessary anxiety. My experience lead me to believe that they were reckless with my account and kept making errors. All was unnecessary

Worst of the worse. If you are having issues don't waste your time trying to talk with someone to get resolution. They won't call back, and if they do can be very condescending , and I don't entertain egos. Just report to the Insurance commissioner, and remember everyone has a boss. I would give zero if I could

I am very happy with my policy for me and my kids. The agent was great and explained everything. We looked at different options and decided on the right policy. This is a very professional company. I even get a call every so often to see if anything needs to be updated. I highly recommend them.

I have called them 8 times to settle a death benefit that was begun in 1938. My sister called twice. the last 3 OR 4 Fridays they said the check is going out " today." Still no check. The staff seems quite pleasant. But no disbursement. I'm tired of being told untruths.

They were the most difficult insurance company I’ve ever experienced in collecting a death benefit. ******* and **** go out of their way to pay claims, literally delivering them to your door. You have to threaten Western Southern with legal action after months of ignoring you. Stay away from these crooks.
