I have reached out to the patient suggesting that he fill out the back of the statement for financial assistance. I am unable to change what his insurance applies to his responsibility.

    Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, reasons for rejection are included below.

    Regards,

    **** *******

My issue is not with how much my Insurance paid my issue is that they billed around $1,500 for a 15 minute ultrasound with a Tech, no Dr was involved at all. This is a classic example of getting overbilled.

I visited the Bethesda North Hospital's Emergency Dept on June 30, 2022 for chest pain. Four hours of testing resulted in a costacondritis diagnosis (sternum inflammation). The Dr recommended that I make an appt with my PCP and request a stress test to rule out a heart issue...no rush, just in the next couple of weeks. I made an appointment for July 8 with a Dr in my PCP's office who I had never met before (my PCP was not available for several weeks). Her exams/tests seemed to confirm the Bethesda North ED exams/tests. She also recommended that we rule our heart issues via the recommended stress test and said she also recommended that we include nuclear medicine for cardiac imaging. She said that not all insurance companies allow the nuclear medicine. She said she would contact them to explain why she requested it if there was any pushback and let me know via their patient portal (MyChart) if there was any problem. She didn't notify me of a problem so I had the procedure on July 14 at Butler Bethesda Hospital. When I received the bill I was shocked to learn that the cost for the procedure was $8,483, of which I was left to pay $4,581. I'm frustrated because if the Dr. had told me to contact my insurance company I would have learned about the cost and would have had the choice to have the procedure or not (at that point it had been several weeks since my ED visit and I was no longer having any symptoms). The Dr. said she'd contact the insurance company if there were any issues. That communicated to me that she was looking out for me and didn't want me to have to pay a large medical bill. If she had instead just told me to contact my insurance company I would not have had to pay nearly $5,000. I spend the next several months exchanging phone calls, emails, and MyChart messages trying to get someone to agree to cost share this mistake with me. In the end I was left to pay the bill with a slight discount. Extremely poor patient care. I deserve some compensation.

I went to my doctor's appointment unaware that my insurance had changed since last year (I am on my parents' insurance). They ran my insurance card, said, " Okay, you're good, you're insured, " and then I had my appointment. Later, I get a bill in the mail for over $200 dollars. I have to call around to them, my insurance, back to them over and over. It turned out they lied to me at the doctor's office and my insurance doesn't cover them and now I have to pay out of pocket for their screw-up. I can't believe the incompetence that they have displayed here and believe I am entitled to compensation from them. It's ridiculous that when I go to get a flu shot at *** they can run my insurance with no problem but a doctor's office cannot which leads me to believe that they knew I wasn't covered and just didn't care.

I am a diabetic and I have had a vein burst more than once and my PCP suggested I get a vein scan. I was told it would be at that same location and nothing more. The vein scan was on October 9 and the doctor read the results on October 22. I received a bill of over $500. Even though I went to a doctors office, They billed it as if I went to a hospital so it was applied towards my deductible. In December they filed two reviews regarding the coding of the bill and came to the conclusion it was correct. The third time I spoke with a representative they felt sorry for me because this was a shock and put a review in to get a discount. I was told to wait 45 days. I called March 4 and they offered me 20% off and I said I would hold off. I received a collection notice March 5 so I called on March 7 for 18 minutes and that person did not even notate the account that I called. I called once again on March 13 and spoke with a supervisor who informed me the review that was placed at the end of December was never actually reviewed and also there are no notes of my call on March 7. It has been two weeks and so I called the supervisor back I spoke to and she offered me 20% off as well. I have spent many hours over a number of days and 20% off is practically nothing. I am currently waiting for her supervisor to call me back. I don’t feel as if I should be responsible for a doctor visit bill because they decided to bill it like I went to a hospital. No one informed me of this. I have been with this office for 20 years and I am ready to change.
